Rating: Summary: Terrific Unconventional Fantasy Review: I really enjoyed this series. It evokes a feel of hidden places and undiscovered secrets. Mr. Williams allows his well-developed characters to do and say what fits them, not some typical fantasy stereotype. Williams is not afraid of the dangerous waters his work explores: which are not your typical ho-hum false-epic fantasy. There is a strong story, interesting characters and a fascinating world to explore and discover. Another great trait is its unpredictability. It keeps you guessing until the very end (how many series can do that?). I strongly recommend this series in a time where Terry Goodkind's trash is making good sales.
Rating: Summary: Truly fantastic Review: Tad Williams tells good tales. When he writes something it is different than anything else he's ever written. Always I am more than pleased. One of his greatest skills is finishing a tale. While the last "book" in the series was really two large paperback volumes, it was necessary. But in the end the story had been told completely without being overtold. Then he moved on to a whole new story. (Will Robert Jordan ever get to the final battle in his Wheel of Time series? Maybe by book 15 after he has squeezed every last cent out of his great beginning.) I've recently read Tad William's Otherland. It is planned as the first of four. It was excellent and I've no doubt when I'm done with the last book I will have read a full and complete tale and he will have moved on to begin another great story.
Rating: Summary: One of the best epic fantasy novels ! Review: This book is the first part of one of the best fantasy series ever. The story is gripping, it is well written and all the characters are extremely likeable.
Rating: Summary: A riveting, exciting book.. Well worth read! Review: A great book that tells of many characters that seem live and breathe. It opens the door to a great series that is well worth reading. If you have the will to read through four books, and you love fantasy. This book is great. :)
Rating: Summary: This is a riveting tale of fantasy which you cannot put down Review: Memory, Sorrow and Thorn, Book 1 is the opening for for one of the greatest fantasy trilogies since C.S. Lewis. Every character lives and breathes so that you have to follow them into the second and third books without delay. I couldn't wait to see how Simon and other characters fared in their adventures in the two sequels. This book should not be missed if you are a fantasy reader.
Rating: Summary: A good read. Review: I liked this book overall. I feel opposite of many of the other reviewers. I liked the first 200 pages or so. Especially the character of Morgenes. It explained Simon's life and situation. I think this was necessary to the plot as a whole. However, after Simon's escape, I found that the book dragged a bit, at least until he was out of the tunnels(which took 12 pages). After that point, the book picked up once again. I especially like the character, Jiriki. All in all, I say read this book, and those that follow it.
Rating: Summary: This book beats all others!!!! Review: Tad Williams created a masterpiece when he wrote this. Yes, at the begining it was a bit slow, but it sure made up for the lost time!! The way he made the characters so elaberate and distinctive was really neat. You felt plunged into Osten Ard with Simon. I'd recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: A new Surprise Review: To anyone begining this series, keep with it! It took me weeks to read the first few chapters. Williams gives so much background history and spends so much time building his characters, it makes you want to move on. However, by the last few chapters, it becomes an action packed adventure filled with suspense and believable bad guys. The series only gets better from here!
Rating: Summary: Slow at first, but gets better. Review: This is definitely a great series, the only problem I had was getting through the first 200 or so pages. After that the action picked up and I started to like the book. Other than the monatony at first and at Other times in the series it is well worth the time.
Rating: Summary: The Dragonbone chair was a great book though a bit slow. Review: I picked up this book in a used bookstore one day because I was desperate for something to read. The thought of being in car for 12 hours on your way to Maryland without something to read was torture in itself. At first, while reading this book I got extremely bored and wondered if I had mistakenly picked up a flowery documentary. But then, it became ten times better, improving by leaps and bounds. To those who are still within the lagging first chapters-hang on!! Patience will reward you greatly. Like the other reviewers I was desperate to get the next book
