Rating: Summary: "Star Wars: Insurrection". No bull. Review: You've got your same basic story premise--an off-the-beaten-path planet with a culture unaffected by either Alliance or Empire influence (but they're both trying--there ain't no "prime directive" here). There's no planetary govenment--they're still at separate nation status. Their military hardware consists of huge bombers, AWACS planes and fighters a generation or so beyond the Tomcat fighters in Tom Clancy novels. General Wedge Antilles (Luke Skywalker's loyal and courageous wingman from the battle of Endor) even does a Picard and attracts a local lady's affections. If it weren't for the fact that it's just as good a story as the rest of the "X-Wing" series, I'd write this book off as derivative of "Insurrection". But I don't mind derivative. As long as its model was worthwhile, and as I said, it's a good story. Hell's Bells, buy BOTH books! But don't waste your time going "uh huh" over the similarities. You paid your money, okay? Enjoy the read.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This book was great. I have read every X-Wing book so far, and I am a serious Wedge fan. I like how Allston concentrated on just the 4 characters. The only problem I had with the book was that the only loose end that was tied up was the Wedge/Qui/Iella thing. I have been wondering about that. But the others, like the Myn/Lara thing, were not even covered. But this is not much of a problem because that just means that Stackpole or Allston will have to write at least one more book. I do wish that they had said more about Tycho and Winter though. All in all it was a great book. Not the best one yet like some said, but it was pretty good!!!
Rating: Summary: This book is brilliant! Review: Starfighters of Adumar is the best x-wing book yet, and deserves every star it can get. By only concentrating on four main characters, Allston is able to develop them really well. The plot is also really well thought out - original and complex without being confusing, and the battle scenes are well described and yet don't dominate the book, so more character situations can develop. There's a lot on Wes Janson 'the darling one' and Hobbie 'the dour one'which is a definite plus - who doesn't love them? Another plus is that there's no Corran Horn to detract attention away from the others (he appears far too often)and YOu also get an interesting perspective of Iella on her own. The new characters are great, too. Just one thing - give me more!
Rating: Summary: One of Aaron Allstons Best! Review: Aaron's humor and individual writing techniques really shine through in his new novel! I personally think it's one of the most entertaining Star Wars novels I've ever read. He and Stackpole and Zahn are definitly my favs.
Rating: Summary: Great story but was missing a few things Review: Well, at first this book confused me, i mean this was a big step in the wrong direction, even though i did like the book, Allston just went in the wrong direction... leaving out one of the best characters in the history of Star Wars... Corran Horn, although the book had some great parts, the comedy was a change for the better though, and the romance, i was like HAPPY when i saw what was happening between Wedge and Iella, more happy and surprised when Corran and Mirax got together, the culture of the Audmari and the main country of Adumar was extremely, uhm DIFFERENT lol, i thought it was funny though, the blastswords were a neat idea, good one Allston........ on the other side, the book had great original yet patterned Fights, which is what makes the X-wing series, i hope Allston puts out more great books, hes my favorite author right now, way better than Stackpole
Rating: Summary: Bravo! Review: oh man this guy is good! alliston once again comes back with bang. Starfighters Of Adumar is an absolutly amazing book. my one and only complaint is that Face Loran wasn't in it! he's alliston's best character (tied with Wes Janson). a great book. this is a must read.
Rating: Summary: Rogue squadron is always the best Review: Rogue squadron will always remain the best out of all the righter squadrons. I have only read the first 5 of the x-wing series (In order of course) but I will read them all with in a month. I agree with another consumer's review when he/she said that the absence of Corran Horn was a weak point in books 5,6, and 7. I believe that Corran Horn is always a key character to the x-wing series and i believe that he should have been in all of the books. I will report my final overview once I read the second half of the series
Rating: Summary: Terrific! Review: I love this book! I had always looked for more Hobbie and Wes and this one was filled with them! Wedge was a heroic as always, I love him for that. He, finally, gets to get together with Iella not Qwi, the Omwati who looses her mind. The only problem: WAy too short. Is there a sequel?
Rating: Summary: The Best so far! Review: The first X-Wing book I got was #5 Wraith Squadron. And it's a darn good thing too. Since then I have read every X-Wing book (Except Isard's Revenge, which I doubt I'll bother with). After reading every book (my order went 5 6 7 1 2 3 4 9), I have to say that Michael Stackpole is too serious and has absolutely no funny spots. Aaron Allston's books are funny. At first I was put off by the absence of Wraith Squadron (when I first started the series, Isard's Revenge was still a month or two away), but I think that Allston did a great job with Hobbie, Janson, etc. The Adumar society is fun to read about, and there are less space battles here, it seems, which in this case is a good thing. My advice: Skip 1 2 3 4, and buy 5 6 7 and 9. I won't comment on 8, because I haven't read it and I doubt I will. Chris
Rating: Summary: An Excellent addition to the x-wing series Review: At first I was a little disappointed to realize that none of Allston's wraith squadron characters were going to make an appearance in this book but I got over that pretty quickly. It's nice to see a book focus on Wedge because he doesn't usually get this much attention and he is a really interesting character.(My favorite right behind Corran) The story line is great, a bit of a change from what's becoming the typical x-wing book, and pumped full of Allston humor.(The one thing Stackpole can't quite equal.) An excellent book, I just hope there's more to come.
