Rating: Summary: Allston goes out in a flash . . . Review: Just like his x-wing pilots hope to do, Aaron Allston goes out of the x-wing series in a flash of magnificent glory! Although this book has little for character development of the main characters, it is not needed. The characters of Tycho, Wedge, Hobbie, and Janson are cultural icons among star wars fans, and they require no introduction. What this novel fullfills is the need for a story that focuses solely on the characters themselves, and their different personalities. Who can forget Hobbie having lines, Janson being embarrased by Wedge, or Tycho and his mystique costume? This story takes some of the most popular characters in star wars, and makes them fully human. I just wish that more star wars authors were willing to take on the personalities of other star wars characters, and be willing to write a novel that stays true to those personalities. Good job, Aaron! Thanks for giving me numerous wonderful hours of laughter and tears . . . and for being the guy who brought the phrase Yub yub! to the world of star wars.
Rating: Summary: SOA is by far the best Star Wars book Review: Aaron Allston is my favorite Star Wars writer, and if you'll read this book, you'll know why. It's action packed, humorous, and yet still poignant when it needs to be. Fantastic writing, ...
Rating: Summary: Janson Rules!!! Review: This has got to be the best SW book ever written! It has battles, romance, and SOOOOOOOO much humor! Not to spoil anything, but one of the best parts is when Wedge awakes to find Tomer on the rampage, accompanied by Hobbie trying to shoot him with his comlink! Glad to see Wedge finally got his girl. Janson has a great part, and adds alot of relief to the book! (Hence his wardrobe and 'emotional level of 14 or 15') This book is a must read,I've read it more times than I can count!
Rating: Summary: Final book, but by far one of the best Review: Excellent! The series closes with a bang! Wedge finally finds a woman who isn't Qwi! I never liked that relationship, he should have been with Iella from the beginning. Anyway, this book is unique to the others in several ways, the most interesting of which as that for once it is almost entirely focuses on political menuevering, and that it only focuses on four of the rogues; Wedge, Janson, Hobbie, and Tycho. This may sound a bit dreary, but trust me, this book is hilarious as well! I won't spoil the plot for you, but if you've read the other books, this one is a must. A reunion with old beloved characters, with a truly interesting story as well.
Rating: Summary: Starfighters of Adumar Review: Near the beginning of this book, Wedge Antilles was greeted by General Cracken, but this was not just a friendly greeting, it was about a mission to Adumar. This mission was vital for the New Republic for if they fail, Adumar and the whole planet will fall into the hands of the Empire. So, Wedge sets off with Tycho, Janson, and Hobbie to Adumar as representative for the New Republic. They realize that Adumar was a land where honor and fighting mattered most. they were caught in visciouse battles and in the end, they turned on Adumar and join forces with the other lands which were rebelling agains't Adumar. A fierce battle broke out between the lands and between the New Republic and the Empire. As usual, the New Republic succedes and have the planet's loyalty. This book to me was one of my favorite books. It had fast paced action and a bit of laughs. All the details about the fights between a planet's lands and the fights above it had a lot of excitement. The assassination attempts to kill the representitive of the New Republic was amazingly detailed. Also, everything added up in the end, unlike some other books which have extras that had nothing to do with the book. My favorite part of the book was the fighting between lands in the planet. The many discriptions in the book helped me imagion what it was like in the fights. From the flight into battle, to the battle itself, it was all detailed very well. The author of this book help me figure out where exactly a laser beam hit on a starfighter. This whole story was great, but the fighting between fighter pilots was my favorite.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: This is an amazing book, and I highly suggest it. It has what some consider the "Fab Four"(Wedge Antilles, Tycho Celchu, Wes Janson, and Hobbie Klivian), all together in a wonderful mix of humor, romance, and action. Read it even if you have disliked Star Wars books in the past. This can(and most likely will) get you hooked on the series. Aaron Allston has created a masterpiece, and if you get a copy of this book, it will stay will used on your shelves for years to come. If you have read other Star Wars books, or even none at all, try reading this book first. You do not nessacarily need any background information to understand what is going on. So go ahead and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Brian's Review 12yrs old 6th grade Review: When I started to read this book, I thought it would be a boring, long book. When I finished I changed my mind. This book is a little boring at the beginning but it gets better. If you are interested in this book ,expect the normal star-fighter battles and confrontations with imperial assassins; you will get more. The neutral world of Adumar has decided to choose sides in the war to control the galaxy. Delegates from both the New Republic and the Empire have been invited to Adumar and each camp will be able to plead its case. But there is one small catch. Since the Adumari prize military skill above all else, they insist that both delegations be made up entirely of fighter pilots. For pilot Wedge Antilles it is an unfamiliar exercise in diplomacy, but it is filled with unexpected peril. Once the X-Wing pilots arrive they are challenged by fierce Adumari warriors and attacked by Imperial assassins bent on eliminating all competition. These challenges pale in comparison to the threat posed by a rogue- republic agent, one who is determined to win Adumar's allegiance once and for all, even if it costs the X-wing pilots their lives.
Rating: Summary: My Christmas Gift to Hobbie Klivian Review: Starfighters of Adumar sends Wedge, Tycho, Wes and Hobbie on a diplomatic mission to Adumar, its population locked in war and Blade-32 air-to-air paint-missile dogfighting. Everybody on the planet does their best to kill Red Flight. The guys manage to keep their heads on, thank the gods of Rogue Squadron. During this time, Wedge and Co. meet up with Iella (y'know, Corran Horn's old CorSec partner) and (good grief) Wedge falls cockpit-over-engines for her. Ah, love... My favorite part in this book is when Hobbie sez he wants to blow something up: "Ooh," said Hobbie. "I volunteer. I want that. Let me do that. Please." Oh, I wanna buy him a toy bantha to cuddle at night! So, cut the chatter and start reading!
Rating: Summary: Funniest SW Book Ever Review: Ah, the sweet smell of space combat and politics mixed with witty banter. While this is by no means the best SW book ever written, it's certainly a very enjoyable read. I've been a big fan of the X-wing series and both Stackpole and Allston. The book starts off on a very nice note: Wedge breaks up with Qwi. Ahh.... Allston must have joined the Stackpole-Zahn pact to rid the world of SW novels from all of the terrible relartionships Anderson thought up in his books. Anyhoo, you get a story that isn't quite the typical sort. Wedge, Tycho, Hobbie, and Janson are sent on a diplomatic mission to get the world of Adumar to join in the now-growing Republic. But there is also the Empire, which remains a visible galactic power. It's nice to see Turr Phennir from Stackpole's excellant comic 'In the Empire's Service.' Alas, it would have been nice to have seen him more. In any case, you get some nice perspective on rthe Empire-Republic situation. Also, Wedge gets to see Iella again and they expand that relationship quite well. (Part of the Zahn-Stackpole-Allston pact, I assume.) The story, while not flawless, is nice and entertaining throughout. And, of course, you get the humor. This book certainly proves that Star Wars can create humor beyond juevenille antics such as Jar Jar Bink stepping in manure. I've heard the four Rogues, especially Wes and Hobbie, compared to the Three Stooges. (Or in this case, Two Stooges... or four Stooges.) Whatever the case, there's loads of witty verbal slapstick, so to speak. Overall, 'Starfighters of Adumar' is a brisk, entertaining read with a nice mix of plot and humor. Reccomended.
Rating: Summary: Not Wraiths, not Rogues... the best of both worlds! Review: This book is awesome. It lays off somewhat on ship-to-ship action, but makes up for it in ground fighting and humor. Tycho, Hobbie, and Wes Janson... Wedge's best friends (and worst nightmares) head off in a special 4-member diplomatic squadron to a previously unknown world that idolizes dogfights and pilots, and are soon getting attacked on all sides by thier greatest fans, who also want to kill them in battle. Then thiers thier teenage guide who falls in love with Wedge, and the unexpected arrival of thier rival and arch-enemy counterparts; an Imperial diplomatic mission headed by the Empire's greatest pilot!!! wahahahaha!!!! Anyway, Wedge's cohorts make his life humorously miserable, he learns the art of Blastssword-fighting, and has to figure out a way to convince the new race why the New Republic's better and not to kill him.
