Summary: Tells high points and good things about the book.
Review: Magic's Pawn was a masterpiece that deserves attention. Some of the imagery in the novel was incredible. Lackey has an incredible imagination and she has some wonderful concepts of magic and also incorporates some true life aspects in this book. Read this one if you haven't already!

Summary: A well wriiten novel of the struggles to be gay in any world
Review: Lackey out does herself in this articulate tale of a young man who goes through the process of self-realization, falling in love, loosing a loved one, and coming out to ones family. Although set in a fantastical setting, the story is timeless for its portray of these difficult issues. I've read it at least 4 times, and call me sentimental but I cry everytime.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best book ever! Well, except for others in her series .
Review: This book always makes me cry! I loved it so much! Vanyel was so easy to identify with, and I felt for him and with him. One of my favorite books, I've read it at least ten times.

Summary: My favorite Mercedes Lackey book
Review: A book of suspense and a love story. Vanyel and Tylendel's relationship is well written and the characters come to life. A must read for any Misty fan!

Summary: Well that was a happy accident
Review: I walked into a used bookstore and by accident picked up a copy of Magic's Pawn. After I had read all the other books I had bought, I finally said what the hell and picked it up to read. After waking up my husband with outright laughter and tears in the middle of the night, I was instantly transformed into a Misty fan. I dare anyone to say they didn't in their heart of hearts enjoy the rollicking good story that she gave us. Who cares if people think it's about homosexuality or if it wasn't grammatically correct. It allowed for the space of the book, a little escapism in an overstuffed day. I hope that she continues to write me into a different world. Read it and see what I mean for yourselves.

Summary: My favourite book...and I've read a lot of books.
Review: This book is amazing. There's really no other word for it. It's so powerful that it makes you look inside yourself for understanding and tolerance for people of all situations. I applaud Mercedes Lackey for this contribution.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Nothing has ever had so profound an effect on my life.
Review: I have read this series so many times I have it memorized, quite literally. Lackey makes some wonderful moral points--that love is love, and, in Moonsong's words, "The form does not matter."

I would recommend it to anyone trying to work through a loss of their own--I had just lost someone very dear to me when I read it the first time, and it let me grieve, reminds me. It is beautiful, the lyrics at the end of _Magic's Price_ are perfect and thoughtful.

Summary: Still a favorite after ten years!
Review: I picked up this book at my local bookstore ten years ago and I didn't know how much of an impact it would have on my life. Sitting in high school study hall, I started reading the book and I realized that the main character was facing some of the same issues that I was experiencing as a gay teen. This book, through its vivid images and realistic detail, described a meaningful and confident relationship between two men. A relationship of trust, happiness, and respect; the qualities we value in relationships between ourselves and others. Mercedes Lackey is a talented writer and she remains one of my favorite authors. "Magic's Pawn" is not only a suspenseful and exciting tale, it is a story that made me feel I was not alone.

Summary: Evokes stronger emotion than any other fictional book...
Review: Although I don't agree with a few of the moral points Lackey makes in this book, I must admit that I've fallen in love with Vanyel as a character. Lackey's telling of this tale is vivid, evoking emotion that one would not ordinarily expect to find within oneself. In reading the other books of this series I found it not only easy, but almost a requisite to laugh, mourn, and especially weep with the most powerful mage through his troubles and experiences. It's a story of love that sees nothing but the heart in another. A must-read for anyone who is a believer in true love.

Summary: ...Not my cup o' Chava...
Review: I have to say this outright...this is probably my least favorite Lackey book of all time. the execution is sloppy, the plot is migraine-calibre illogical and most of the characters, especially Lackey's trademark, evil-for-the-sake-of-evil villains, have all the verisimilitude of a B-grade movie. a note to some who want to blame my displeasure on ...ahem, Other Things: I am not a homophobe. I had no problem with Vanyel and Tylendel being gay. their relationship just sort of seemed contrived...like one more burden to throw at our hero, one more thing to make Vanyel more alienated and misunderstood. or, the barely phesable logic in causing the sequence of events which leave him with a nauseatingly grand magical arsenal. The misunderstood adolescent plot is getting wearing after the "Arrows" series and (my fault, I will admit) every other SF book I've read in the past year.
