Summary: Friedman continues to show an impressive imagination
Review: To date I have read all of Friedman's books (all five). Each story demonstrates her ability to create whole worlds which interact with, but do not center around, the characters. I found that this conclusion to the series wrapped up some of the loose ties put forth in the first two books, and yet left others to the reader's imagination. And just when I thought I understood how her world worked after the first two books, the conclusion presents further twists. Friedman is my favorite writer. She has a gift for melding science fiction and fantasy. My only disappointment is that she is not more prolific. I would highly recommend not only this series, but her first two novels In Conquest Born and The Madness Season to anyone.

Summary: A Stunning Ending to an Incredible Series
Review: After a gut-wrenching wait for those who quickly read the first two novels in the Coldfire Trilogy, (_Black_Sun_Rising_ and _When_True_Night_Falls_), this book was like water to one dying of thirst. Without question, it was the perfect way to end one of the best trilogies of all time.

At the close of _When_True_Night_Falls_, the fate of the dark sorceror and Hunter, Gerald Tarrant, lies in question. Will he be able to appease the Unnamed who grant his powers, or will he face the darkness of hell? Will the demon, Calesta's evil plans succeed, or will the unlikely combination Damien Vrice, Warrior Priest and Gerald Tarrant rid Erna of his malevolance forever? Only time spent within the pages of this book will reveal to you the answers that you seek!

Summary: Maybe there is another one !!!!!
Review: Ms Friedman makes a graceful recovery from her vapidly unimpressive effort in "when true night falls" in this book. The plot and the action is taut and gripping. For some reason her explanation of the "Iezu" reminded me of Julian May's saga of the Pliocene exiles (It may have been the concept of the "living-space ship"). This book has a sense of urgency I found totally lacking in book 2 and present to a far lesser degree in book 1. This is definitely a book that is hard to put down. I would have loved to have given a rating of 10 for this book, but I'm somewhat dissapointed by the way it concludes. I feel that there should have been some information on the state of Gerald Tarrant's soul and whether he managed to make peace with his(Literally!!)God. The only thing we are told is that the hunter's essence merged with that of Riven Forrest who I assume to be the Iezu "son" of the hunter. Midway through the book I felt that it almost had a kinship to Dante's Divine Comedy -specifically Inferno. The expected salvation of the hunter's soul never comes to pass and we are offered a tepid conclusion that fails in coparison to the fire of the rest of the narrative. This approach would only be permissible if the author intends to write another book to extend the series. If that is the case, this book gets a 10!!!, and I can hardly wait for the conclusion

Summary: Incredible....
Review: An astonishing end to the Coldfire Series and a possible beginning to a new type of Sciense Fiction -- 20th century mythology.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Very good, very human, most of all, fun.
Review: I think that after all is said and done, this series will stand out not just a fantasy series, or even as a quasi-science fiction series It will stand out as way of point out moral quandaries and what one man does to save the thing he truly loves, even though it was not was he though it was.

Summary: A most excellent conclusion to a great trilogy
Review: Friedman gives everything in the final book to the Coldfire Trilogy. As well, so do the 'heroes'...

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best book of the three
Review: There is really nothing I could say that would do this book justice. C.S. Friedman is a fabulous author, and the way she manages to tie everything up in this book is just superb. If you've read the earlier books, this is a must-have; if you haven't read them, then you should.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the ending. I can't really go into detail about why without spoiling the plot, which is something I definitely don't want to do, but I'll just say some parts of it seemed kind of contrived to me. Also, she intentionally leaves a few threads dangling; I know some people prefer endings like this, where things are open to interpretation, but I prefer endings where everything is neatly wrapped up and spelled out for me.

However, don't get me wrong--my complaints about the ending are nowhere near enough to ruin my love of the book, or of the series in general. It's more a nitpick then anything--this series is so good I have to resort to nitpicking to find anything wrong with it. =)

Summary: One of the best series I've ever read!
Review: The coldfire trilogy is one of the best series I have ever read. And I have read thousands of sci fi and fantasy books over more than a quarter century. Five stars all the way! Be sure to check out the rest of her books too. Without exception they have all been unlike anything else I've read. It's refreshing to read truly original works!

Summary: Truly Good Ending
Review: A truly good ending. In most series endings you get the idea the author ran out of ideas so quickly ties of the story line with the first thing that comes to mind. This ending isn't quick and simple, but it also isn't overll complex. Good wins, evil is punished, etc..

Summary: "Have you accepted Gerald Tarrant as your personal savior?"
Review: the best of three! the ending is so unexpected, but at the same time throughout the whole book you're hoping for it. when it finally comes to the end, even though it's not actually stated, you're heart is bursting with joy. i was literally brought to tears at the events leading up to the ending, so when the ending finally came i was brought to tears of joy. this trilogy is definitely movie material ... though i'm not sure how they could make a good movie out of it. (holiday is notorious for leaving out the most important story details) if a good movie were to be made, each part would be three or four hours long, in order to fit everything in. but i would still pay every dime i have to see the movie if they made one.
