Rating: Summary: A worthy farewell to the magnificent Coldfire Trilogy! Review: Setting: Very original. The world intorduces a new form of magic and species which are very refreshing from the average fantasy epics. Plot: Slightly redundant, but it is not noticable as each book alters the plot to give a variety of different events. Characters: The main character (Daimien) is not that exciting, but a good solid personality. Tarrant, on the other hand, is a truly spectacular character full of intriuge, danger, power and mysterious thoughts. One of the best depicted personalities I have ever read about!!! Worth reading just for him!!!!! Overall: Do not rest until you have read this book!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: The Perfect Conclusion! Review: First off, don't pay any attention to the editorial reveiws. A) Gerald Tarrant is *not* a zombie, B) Calesta isn't precisely *pain* hungry. The travelers have returned 'home' as Karril advised near the close of book 2, but they can't rest yet. The demon that they obliquely confronted in the first books is back- with a new, *very* unexpected human partener, and an even nastier than usual agenda. Gerald and Damien- by this point I certainly cared about them enough to use the first names!- must cement their still rather shaky trust for the third of Tarrent/the Prophet's goals, to save the soul of human kind. The ending of this book is a heart-wrencher, and there are scenes that *nearly* made me cry. Throughout, Friederman maintains the rapid, action filled, plot movement of the first two books, and their deft characterizations. Gerald Tarrant is a remarkable character, his human side more apperant than ever, but the inhuman undead ice we've almost come to love is still there. Damien Vryce's wry sense of humor in the face of horror and generally optimistic outlook are there, the later is more obvious as the Neocount grows more pessimistic in his outlook midway through the book (Tarrent that worried?! Calesta really means business in this book!). This is a must read example of how to end a series- and leave the readers begging for another one!
Rating: Summary: Leaves series satified Review: In this final book all the loose ends in the series, such as the secret of the Iezu. It gives a wonderful insighted look into religion and the line between good and evil. Moving scenes and characters leave you wanting more, and it finishes with a fantastic ending.
Rating: Summary: A satisfying ending Review: After struggling with the second book in this series it took me a while to pick up "Crown of Shadows," but I'm glad I did. This is without a doubt the best book in the series and shows Friedman well in control of a talent which both Jordan and Goodkind lack ... ENDING a story! She delivers here big-time, surpassing the first two books and leaving us wanting more. I love it when I "feel" a book long after putting it down.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely gripping Review: This is one of my favorite series of all time. You really get to care about the characters in this book. This volume really brings the series to a satisfying conclusion. The ending is not your typical "happy ending"; there is sadness and some stunning events near the end. If I had the time, I would have read this book in one sitting.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely a must for those reading the Coldfire Trilogy Review: Oh but you utterly cannot skip this most important, conclusive book in the trilogy. It's got wonderful twists, some heart-wrenching scenes, more excitement, some sorrow, and a heck of a lot of surprises. I loved it, truly! Some more great Tarrant-Damien stuff, though there is a new (but known) main character which takes up a few scenes. I was a bit impatient with that character becoz by then I was attached to Damien and Tarrant and just wanted to know what happened to them, who cares about anyone else, but that character is crucial to the ending and stuff, so don't skip his part until you're rereading! :) Anyway, the end of the book is pretty emotional (for the reader) and like someone else said, I was crying AND laughing at the end. Adored it. Adored all of these books actually. So do read it and buy it if you are so lucky as to be able. These books are so easy to reread again and again.P.S.: Has anyone noticed that really cool and hilarious note among the copyright page, which says normally enough at first: this is a work of fiction. any resemblence to characters living or UNDEAD is coincidence (or blah-blah). It cracked me up! Check it out.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Ending Review: Honestly, a considerable portion of this thrid and final book in the Coldfire series didn't really interest me. However, the ending and some other truly memorable scenes make it all worth it. The ending is very touching, and really makes you yearn for another story of the relationship between Damien Vryce and Gerald Tarrant, who now is someone else entirely. The whole Riven Forrest deal was very creative, and near the end where he toasts to the picture of the Hunter and says "Here's to you, Dad", I could hear "Sympathy For The Devil" playing in the back of my mind. I really wish that somehow, some way, this series will be revived and adapted into a film or TV mini-series. Gerald Tarrant is the perfect evil prince...with something else inside him as well. His human essence, smothered yet not dead, comes to the forefront and allows him to make the ultimate sacrifice for his brethern and his God. And through it all we know that the strength and righteousness of one sole man, Damien Vryce, allowed Gerald to reject 900 years of evil and save the world. What a series! What an ending! C.S. Freidman...what a genius!
Rating: Summary: Great End to an Excellent Series Review: Crown of Shadows culminates the battle between the demon Iezu against Damien and Tarrant. The ending of this novel is fabulous and keeps the reader questioning as to what happens next. Unfortunately, there is no sequel so we are left to wonder about the final person Damien meets on the last pages. The novel is excellent due to the ironic combo of Damien and Tarrant. Tarrant is the former Prophet who has turned into the most feared "demon" in the land: The Hunter. I loved this novel, and think it was a great way to close out this series.
Rating: Summary: Great Triology! But... Review: This book is in no way second to Robin Hobb's Assasins series! It defenitely surpasses it. Although all third books of triologies kinda drag, the last book of the Assasin's dragged and dragged and it was definetly not worth the sit through. I was so mad by the time I finished that book I wanted to rip it to shreds. The only thing that stopped me was that it was a library book and not mine's to shred. In no way did I want to shred up Crown of Madness. Rather, I thought the ending was cool and fitting, although I had some questions. But it by far, surpasses Assasins last book.
Rating: Summary: great trilogy! Review: This was a really amazing series, second only to Robin Hobb's Assassin series. I highly recommend it!
