Rating: Summary: Just as good the second time around Review: I read this 20 years ago and have always remembered the Elric saga as one of my favorite all time reads. I've just reread this first novel in the series, and it's just as compelling as the first time around. While not the best book in the Elric saga, it is a must read! We meet Elric and his half-alien race of Melniboneans. We learn of Elric's pain and his motivations. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: An amazing book by the originator of Sword and Sorcery Review: This book is the beggining of a fantastic voyage into the tormented life of a true hero. This is the begginning of a story of one of Moorcock's many Eternal Champions. The deep plot and fantasy imagery show you the inner workings of a prince and emperor trying to get through his life and find the final happiness we all seek. Amazing imagination from the originator of the Sword and Sorcery genre. Check it out and get caught up in the stories and lives of rich characters!
Rating: Summary: An amazing first half Review: This is an amazing story - up to a point. I was enthralled for the first half, but after that it simply fell apart. Moorcock leads you on for page after page with hypnotic, poetic writing...and then let's you fall. It had so much promise up to that point (Elric is an amazing character, and Moorcock's world seems incredibly real) but then seemed to lose it's way. Still, it is a great effort, and were it possible, I would give it 4.5. It *almost* reaches greatness.
Rating: Summary: This book is great! Review: This is an excellent book and should be read by all. I'll warn you though, if you read the first, you will read them all.My only complaint is that the cover art of all of the Elric Saga books suck.
Rating: Summary: A must-read for readers and budding writers of fantasy. Review: Any fantasy lovers or people just starting to write fantasy must read Elric of Melniboné. In what is easily the best-written of all six Elric books, Michael Moorcock paints a picture of the powerful and tragic kingdom of Melniboné, where half-men, half-demons control the world. The painstaking detail in which Moorcock goes to describe the contrasting beauty and cruelty of the capital city of Imrryr is unforgetable, and the way he makes you love the character of Elric and look beyond the barbaric ways of him and his people is masterful. The story ends in a way that sets the stage and poses questions for the next five books, and forces the reader to continue with the series or risk insanity out of want to know what happens to Elric and the other inhabitants of Melniboné and the Young Kingdoms as well. With the excellent writing and great questions of morality raised of not only the Melnibonéans, but of the humans that scorn them, the Elric series is truly one of the greatest fantasy works ever written.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Fantasy Novel of the 20th Century Review: I cannot recommend this book highly enough to any writer or reader seeking the consumate fantasy hero novel. Its construction and wording are exquisite, and it follows all of the classic elements Robert Campbell mentions in "The Warrior's Journey." Elric is such a rich, fascinating character that it is impossible not to identify with his struggles. The war between Chaos and Law is our own internal struggle, the warring conscience of Mankind, ever at odds, striving for balance, yet rarely acheiving it. Like Elric, we find only small solace, even in Tanelorn, for struggle is what drives us--the fire in the brain, the quest for the unattainable. We are all Warriors At The Edge of Time, and Moorcock uses his magnificent style to convey this ongoing war we call "life" with elegent prose that truly makes "Elric of Melnibone" one of the pivotal fantasy novels of our century. A must read! A perfect 10!

Rating: Summary: Favorite Science Fiction Author Review: Elric of Melnibone is the first book I ever read my Moorcock and I have been a devoted fan ever since (I've read over thirty of his books!). Ten years later I still find myself reading the series late at night. Elric is a character that fascinates and captivates everyone I have recommended it to. You have to read it to understand!
Rating: Summary: It hooked me in the first 10 lines Review: Without a doubt, one of the most unputdownable fatasy novels in existance. I'm not proud of the fact, but I read this book in the middle of final exam week in my most hellish university year.
Rating: Summary: The Best Fantasy Saga Ever Review: The Elric Saga by Michael Moorcock is one of the most mind-blowing pieces
of literature that I have ever read. He creates a world full of intrigue, cruelty,
and humanity, and ties it all together perfectly.
The hero, Elric is one of the most dynamic and complex characters of any novel.
Moorcock goes into detail about his feelings and fears, and gives the reader
genuine compassion for his characters. The saga is a complex tale of Law and Chaos,
and is not without morals relevant to todays world. If you are at
all interested in fantasy, you must read this saga.
It is exciting, sad, humorous, and definitely the best saga
I have ever read.
