Rating: Summary: A first timer SSF's dream book to read! Review: The Diamond Throne was my first ever Since Fiction Fantasy Novel I ever read. It was back in 1993. It was written so well I imagined I was actually there. I have read all of David Eddings books and love every page. The events are cleverly thought out and things happen as you usually hang for them too. Occasional suprises keeps you on your toes as you delve deeper into the mistery of the Saphire Rose (Bellium).
Rating: Summary: The Diamond Throne is a very entertaining read. Review: This book got me addicted to Eddings. After this one I continued on to read all of his books, but this is probably my favorite series. I love the way he writes a serious story that made me laugh constantly, his charecters are great fun.
Rating: Summary: Buy this book! Review: This is a series that makes excellent "k"night time reading! Sparhawk, champion of the crown of Elenia, searches for a cure when his young queen becomes fatally ill, only surviving by the life's energy of a group of magic-wielding knights and their teacher. Along with a small band of warriors, a small styric woman (whose mystical powers are legendary) and a young thief named Talen. They ride, sail and fight their way across harsh lands, to not only find a cure, but stop a scheming priest's maniacal desire for power before time runs out!
Rating: Summary: Nice, not more Review: Well, well, well. Eddings, who deeply impressed me with his BELGARIAD and MALLOREON series is a little bit disappointing here. Everything is down a notch from the other two series. The book is a little bit too schematic, the characters are not as well drawn, but it is still very readable. At least the setting is a little bit different here, more focussing on a "knight's life". Another difference: There is a little bit more sex and violence in this book than in the other series. No! Hold your horses! Nothing steamy, it would still get a PG or PG-13 rating, we're still talking about David Eddings here...
Rating: Summary: A great beginning--The Diamond Throne, by Eddings Review: This was the first fantasy novel I read. It is now my favorite book ever. Sparhawk is the hero, and must work with his friends to save the world he knows from being taken over by great evil. The action and suspense never cease to flow in David Edding's books. All the characters are realistic and easily pictured. I highly reccommmend this book.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book, it was the greatest book I've ever read! Review: I thought this was a great book. It was one of the best I've ever read. I'm only 15 and I used to HATE to read. Then one day I picked "Diamond Throne" up off the shelf and started to read. I was immediately pulled into the book from the first encounter with the thief Krager up until the meeting with the ghost of Aldreas! This is a fantastic book, it made me want to read. Now I really like to read. This is by far the GREATEST book ever!!
Rating: Summary: Edding's Diamond Throne alltogether uninspiring Review: David Eddings, you've disappointed. The Diamond Throne has all the feel of an author pounding out a book just for the sake of pounding out a book. It's slow-moving, more than a hair cliche, and just plain dull.
But the worst thing about The Diamond Throne is its selfish ending. Anyone who suffers through this drab plot deserves a conclusion. It's one thing to write a trilogy. But each book should be a book. Each book should have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Eddings gives us a beginning and way too much middle. Nothing close to an end though.
Undriven and lacking imagination. Don't bother with this one.
Rating: Summary: The campaign begins... Review: By the time of this installment, Eddings had already proved himself in his previous two "quintologies" as a wordsmith without equal. With a fresh cast of characters and a world as yet unexplored, Eddings builds a true quest story with the all the trappings of conventional fantasy and a blend of his own singular vision. Filling in details that most fantasy authors painfully omit, Eddings populates his world, giving it a tangible life lacking elsewhere in the genre. His tone ranges the spectrum from comedy to intimacy to chilling narrative. A host of genuine characters (not to many "ultimate do-gooders here") helps push an honest feeling of struggle, not one of absolute "conquer and obliterate." A definite read for any proclaimed fantasy reader.
Rating: Summary: The Best... Review: I thought I had read the best book-series there was when I read R.A.Salvatore's "Dark Elf" Trilogy. Then I stumbled across "The Elenium". I instantly turned "a believer"! The Diamond Throne is the first of "The Elenium" and from the beginning of it Eddings' superb use of language charmed the hell out of me. He simply twists the English language into something that one cannot help but love. The unlikely group of adventurers, with the final touch of "Flute", on their way to protect the honor of the church-knight, while attempting to rescue Queen Elehna, is nothing but... great!
"Oh, that makes sense... I guess." :
Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING!!!! Review: I LOVE IT!!!! GOD MUST HAVE MADE EDDINGS TO WRITE FANTASY!!!!
