Rating: Summary: Truly abysmal! Review: This book fails both as parody and as a halfway decent fantasy novel. The dialogue is inane, repetitive and not at all funny. It is distracting and often estranged from the context at hand. A contemporary, informal voice is spliced with a quasi-mediaevalism (Thee, thy, thou, hast, dost etc.)This makes for very inconsistent and unconvincing dialogue. A lot of the problems that the charcacters encounter are surmounted too easily and it seems as if Annias and other evil characters are very contrived and exist only to be laughed at and insulted. I never really got the sense that they would pose much of a threat to Sparhawk and the other knights. At times, it seems like Sparhawk is disproportionately condescending to Sephrenia and Flute even though they are both very powerful and have proven so on many occasions. It's like on the one hand the author views them as helpless damsels who need to be protected by the hero and on the other hand he hasn't bothered to actually MAKE them helpless by giving them no magical powers. The book retreads old ground page after page, making it a very labourious and unsatisfying read. Easily the worst fantasy novel I've read in six years.
Rating: Summary: Must read:Great book Review: David Eddings has created a wonderful atmosphere in this book, the combination of magic with Midevil kingdoms is simply fantastic. He has created characters that readers can come to know and enjoy reading about. Some of the plot lines are a little different then I would have suspected but it all rapps up into a great book.
Rating: Summary: The Diamond Throne (Book 1 of the Elenium) Review: Well, I'm right now reading the last book about Elenium, and it have been a pleasure reading the first two! They so good, great story, mysterius person, hungry monsters e.t.c...BUY THIS ONE, AND THEN BUY THE TWO OTHER BOOKS AND ENJOY READING THEM!
Rating: Summary: The best - period. Review: I know most Eddings fans look down their collective noses at the Elenium & Tamuli series, but, even though they ARE somewhat derivative of the Belgariad & Mallorean, I have always felt that the characters are more vibrant, more real than those in the Belgariad. Don't get me wrong - I love all the books the Eddings' have written, but the Sparhawk character is my absolute favorite from any medium.
Rating: Summary: Action pact and keeps you reeding. Review: I thought this book was very good. i love the relationships between the magic and the knights. You don't find that often. i have only two words in conclusion Great Book
Rating: Summary: This is the best series ever! Review: When I first started this book, I didn't really want to read it, I was only reading it because a friend suggested it. But after the first few pages, I was so engrossed that I couldn't stop reading for more than a second! I LOVE THIS BOOK AND THIS SERIES! Seriously, if you never accomplish anything else in your life, at least read this book. IT IS THE BEST! At the end, I made a friend read it and she likes it just as much!
Rating: Summary: The Diamond Throne Review: Great Book, good place to start for those just getting into fantasy
Rating: Summary: Eddings is an awesome writer! Review: I've read and collected these books in hardback and paperback. Of all the different author's works I've read, Eddings is one I will always buy. His stories are incredible and his characters easy to imagine. Well written, exciting, even humorous. David Eddings is to fantasy what Shakespeare was to theater.
Rating: Summary: I would not overlook this book!!!! Review: I really liked this book as I have all of Edding's otherbooks. I didn't think the Characters were nearly as good as they werein the Malloreon and Belgariad. I think Garion is much better than Spearhawk but otherwise This Book is a Must Have!
Rating: Summary: Gald I picked an author, ecstatic that it was Eddings. Review: After much debating as to which author to finally begin a serious fantasy career with, I settled with the Elenium by David Eddings. I have only read the Diamond Throne so far, but am already completely hooked. The entire thing keeps moving from start to finish, which is a relief. Sometimes, when an author runs out of plot, they turn to description to waffle. In the case of Eddings, his work is good enough, and deep enough, to avoid needing to. A class read.
