Summary: ...HE will return...
Review: OH MY RAISTLIN!!!... I mean, OH MY GOD!!! (I get those two confused sometimes...) I just came back from Borders and I am in shock! Why Laurana? Why have practically all of the original companions had to meet such tragic demises? Oh, and I don't want to get off on a rant here but now that "The One God" has been revealed, Raistlin will HAVE to come back and destroy this pathetic immortal; and NOT to "save the world" (I say that dripping with sarcasm) but to show that HE should be the one to rule Krynn. Keep those pompous dragons in line and show Mr. Dark Elf (Dalamar)how to REALLY bring magic back to Krynn. Well, I'm done ranting; I guess that I now have to wait A WHOLE YEAR to find out when the best character in all of Deragonlance's history will return in all his glory!!!... thank you.

Summary: Great Book
Review: This book is a great read for the avid fans of the Dragonlance Saga. It was very hard to put down, and I found that it traveled with me everywhere I went until I finished it. It is definatly worth owning!

Summary: Very Good... but could have been better...
Review: To be fair to folks who haven't yet read this book, it *is* very good and does resolve alot of the plot, with a couple of *major* questions still remaining(of course). I was a teeny bit disappointed once I figured out who the One God is (about two/thirds of the way through, though I always was suspicious from the get-go). I can't say more without spoiling it... Still, I'm RIVETED and I can't wait to read Dragons of a Vanished Moon, which should be one intense and fast-paced read!

Summary: A Great Novel
Review: This along with War of the Souls is one of the best set of books I have read next to The Hobbit. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman have created new wonderful characters. The books were so good I couldn't put them down and ended up finishing it in a day and a half. I recomend this and War of the Souls, not to mention other books by these authors. Their story line is captivating, seizing you from the moment you begin to read dragging you into Krynn along for the adventures.

Summary: Take A Look...
Review: An excellent book all in all. I was kept in suspense the entire time and found it difficult to tear myself away from the it. I finnished it very quickly, (5 days after purchase) a record for myself. By far my favorite part was the ending, mysteries that built up starting in the first of the series (Dragons of a fallen sun) were finnaly explained and at the same time the stage was set for the next in a thrilling set of books. I won't tell what happened but i urge anyone who has a habbit of reading the last chapter in a book first, NOT TO, trust me it will be far better if you just read it all the way through. Enjoy!!!

Summary: Can't believe they have done it again
Review: Wow, I find it hard to believe that the modern day predecesors of Tolkien have done it again. They have managed to make their newest installment into the world of dragonlance one of the best works they have ever written. For you fans of Weis and Hickman you know what I am talking about, for those of you who are not then you really need to read them some more. From the writters of the Death Gate Cycle and Chronicles/Legends comes the newest and probably one of the best books in the DragonLance saga. It is a must have for any home library.

Summary: Great New Series!
Review: Having just finished both of the books in a week long reading marathon (whenever I could find the time!) this was a jolt back to the past. I truly enjoyed all of the Dragonlance books that were written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman and was sad to see the "final" book. I felt that there were too many loose ends that needed tying up.

I've read several rather critical reviews of the first book and was amazed at them. I am glad that I read the reviews after I finished the book, because if I had read them prior to purchasing the book, I probably would not have even purchased the book to read. As if was, after finishing the first book, I immediately got the second and throughly enjoyed both of them.

These are excellent books and I am looking forward to the third and final book in this series.

Summary: The old Dragonlance is back!
Review: I really meant to read just a little at a time, taking my time to savor and absorb, but it just wasn't possible. A third of the way through all it took was a couple of late-nite binges and I was done. I literally couldn't put it down, and could not BELIEVE what I was reading! W&H have revived what had become a somewhat stale world. The first 1/3 of the book was a little slow action-wise, but it was easy to see that the groundwork was being laid for the last half of this book, and probably the next book. It has all the feel of the original trilogies, with a perfect mix of the old and new characters. By the end of the book you'll know the identity of the one god (if you don't already), and how it relates to events in the first two books. But that question only leads you to a dozen more, in true Dragonlance tradition. This is a MUST read for any casual Dragonlance fan.

Summary: They're Back
Review: Margaret and Tracy really came with it on this new Dragonlance book Dragons of a Lost Star! It is, as so many fans have said, back to the original great adventures, realistic characters, and tremendous magic! The dragons are great! Including their descriptions of the dragon overlords from the 5th age. I think they have blended the two different story lines together wonderfully and I hope they tie up all the loose ends in the last book Dragons of a Phantom Moon.

Keep up the good work guys!

Summary: Get on with it! (Slight return)
Review: The second book in the War of Souls trilogy proves to be even more disappointing than the first. I just don't know what has happened to Margaret and Tracy.

Much has been made in the past about other Dragonlance authors' mistakes and contradictions with the original storyline, things like Heroes of the Lance encountering dragons before the first book of Chronicles, etc., etc.. But now we have Margaret and Tracy making blatant errors. In the first few pages, they say the Citadel of Light is on the Isle of Sancrist, when it is on the Isle of Schallsea. This is not one typo; every time they mean to say Schallsea, they say Sancrist. The same thing is done with the word 'poison'; they use 'potion' when they obviously mean to use the word 'poison.' There are other things, like when Gerard is riding Razor and they stop halfway to Solanthus to rest. First of all, earlier in the book, Targonne plans to make the trip from Neraka to Silvanost in an afternoon, a distance greater than the Qualinost to Solanthus trip, yet Gerard and Razor have to stop along the way, apparently for no other reason than to make their journey fit the chronology of the other simultaneous events. Secondly, in the descent of the dragon to the beach, they describe the sun shining on the water. But then Gerard takes a nap, and when he wakes up, Razor tells him he slept all night and most of the morning away. At Dalamar's tower, sometimes the trees are taller than the tower, and sometimes you can see an ocean of treetops from the window.

This is all just complacent writing on Margaret and Tracy's part(they, more than anyone else, should know their own world), and inexcusibly sloppy editing from whoever edited this book. My complaints haven't addressed the writing itself, which is tired. Margaret and Tracy seem weary of telling these tales. There's just no excitement, no sense of awe and wonder to the writing. It reads like a technical manual, and doesn't even have the lively prose of a well-written historical document. Sometimes the style is silly, sometimes it is boring. On pg 191, they even address the reader directly, something that went out with Jane Austen, by saying, '...so we will say here that he did not.' The characters go places and do things because they seemed dragged along by the authors, rather than the events. More than anything else, the characters lack believable motivations. It's as though M & T are saying, this is what happens because this is what we need to do to fill enough pages so that the really big stuff doesn't happen until the third book. We'll throw you an intriguing bone every hundred pages or so, just to keep you interested, to keep you reading along.

To conclude, all I can say is that, like Fallen Sun, the characters are for the most part flat and dull, the action meanders without purpose of meaning, and the writing style itself seems written grudgingly, as though Margaret and Tracy are just too sick of it all to put much effort into making things interesting.

And this is a sad thing from two people who blew my mind with the Legends series. It's like watching some tired old overweight boxer trying to make a comeback and getting pummeled by his failure to live up to his past achievements. Margaret and Tracy need to throw out all their old templates, spend a few years reading and traveling instead of writing, and comeback with something that doesn't even vaguely resemble Dragonlance, Darksword, Deathgate, Sovereign Stone or anything else they've ever done. They desperately need something to challenge them. Mindless fawning praise and consumption of their books will only result in weaker and weaker showings by these two great writers.

I gave this book 2 stars because, bad as it is, it is better than some fantasy that I have read. Plus I wanted to balance out some of those undeserved 5 star ratings....
