Rating: Summary: Won't disappoint Review: I must say, I really wasn't too sure what this book would be like when I first got it. But it being straight from Weis and Hickman I kept all doubts suppressed. The story starts pretty much right where it left off with Tas and Palin. They make their daring escape and meet up with an old friend. Mina did what she claimed she'd do in Silvanost and now has her eyes set on another location. The only thing about this book that got annoying was how everything just seemed to be given right to Mina by her "One God." Nobody could struggle against her for more than five seconds and it really got somewhat aggrivating. Don't let that stop you though. Aside from her, the storyline with the Elves in Silvanost and Qualinost is very absorbing, especially at the end, which is worth getting to even if you had to read 1000 pages of boring stuff, which you WON'T. The battle here is something not seen in quite some time. The entire story is actually quite entertaining all the way and you'll find yourself getting through this book in 2-4 days. I really don't want to say too much to spoil anything for you, which is why I've kept this short. You're in for a real shocker and thrill at the end, so don't make the mistake of passing this book up.
Rating: Summary: most interesting Review: The primary reason why I fell in love with Dragonlance in the first place was not because of the plot (which was, admittedly, good, but not absolutely awe-inspiring), but because of the diverse, unique, and amazing characters. I'm talking about Raistlin, Tasslehoff, Caramon, Tanis, and the like. This book has one of those characters -- Tas -- but somehow he's just not as interesting and not even half as amusing, or quite as lovable when he's not with the rest of the Companions. Dragonlance just isn't the same with out the old characters. But that isn't the point: The plot of the War of Souls is a most interesting one, with many skillfully concealed secrets and unexpected events (read: Qualinesti. Those who've read it will understand). The pacing is done nicely enough, and the events all fall together quite smoothly. But again, one of the most important factors in a book is that the reader can relate to one of the characters, can see him or herself in them. I don't see that happening with Mina (Joan of Arc turned TV evangelist, thank you), or with Palin (King of Middle-aged Angst), or even with Laurana (who I still like, but not prefer to Laurana-with-Tanis, if you catch my drift). Dragons of a Lost Star is a good enough read, but without the old characters and well-loved traditions like Raistlin's sharp tongue, most of the magic's just gone from Krynn. Literally and poetically speaking. But I have to admit. It will be most interesting to see how Weis and Hickman are going to attempt to revive the seemingly lost world of Krynn. (Looking at the reviews of Vanished Moon, however, it seems as if they've ruined an old character as well, and are well rid of their chances of taking back into possession Dragonlance's old magic. Sadly enough.)
Rating: Summary: The story begins to fall in place.... Review: Dragons of a Lost Star is a book that will keep you guessing throughout the entire book. Not only is it finally revealed who Mina's mysterious One God is, but other factors come into play that make this book stand out among the many other Dragonlance books that have been written. One word that can describe this book is "suprising". There was so many things that happened in this book, where one finds themselves thinking they know what is going to happen, and then a twist is thrown into the story and something totally different happens. *SPOILERS* ahead..... Anyone who has been a fan of Dragonlance will find the events that happen in this book to be very suprising to say the least. The identity of Mina's god for one. It was a suprise to see that Takhisis had had her hand in a lot of things that had happened since the Chaos War. Mina's faith in her, the One God, is bound to make Dragons of Vanished Moon a very exciting book. Another thing that I found suprising in this book was the destruction of Qualinesti. It was nice to see Beryl finally killed, but the elves are going to have to rise above the destruction of they have any hope of surviving. All in all, the plot twist, surpises, emotional impacts in this book are amazing. Tasselhoff still is being his normal kender self, and new heros are rising out of the woodwork. This book is an amazing read and a must for any Dragonlance fan. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman do an amazing job portraying Krynn in the Fifth Age. Check this book out, you wont be dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: Takhisis, again.. Review: When I finished reading Dragons of Summer Flame, I said "OK!That's the end" and I gave up reading DL..But I could not stop myself from buying Dragons of a Fallen Sun, mostly because there was a One God and I realy wanted to know who would it be..It was not hard for me to guess the identity of this One God. So Takhisis again and of course she is not back for good. Seeing old characters is really good(except Tas, I really start to hate him), but I cannot make myself care for new characters. Mina, she is so irritating that I sometimes thought about skipping the chapters she is in, she devotes herself to Takhisis so completely that if she had been a minion of Takhisis in the War of Lance, Takhisis would have won! Also, other new characters mostly annoyed me,except Marshal Medan, he reminded me the old characters..The death of Laurana and Goldmoon was expected for me so I was not suprised, but the death of Laurana made me remember the death of Sturm and it was heartbreaking, the knowledge that she would not find peace in death made the sadness worse. Also, I did not like the idea of everything was under control of Takhisis(aka One God), that she knew what would happen next. Then where is hope, where are suprises? Takhisis said that would happen and then that really happened. At the beginning it was interesting but then it became boring. It seemed that Odila was right,"One God, what can mortals do against such power?" I haven't read the third book yet but I think that if writers do not decide to give the world to Takhisis(I really want to see it, maybe an alternative ending?), other gods will return to Krynn. And I bet everyting I own that this mysterious passenger is Raistlin..All and all I always prefer Chronicles and Legends but War of Souls is worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Long Lost Fan BACK!!! Review: I quit following the series a while back (I could not stand the substandard writing in the spin offs.) But the War of Souls series has me hooked! I love the setting, the story is rivitting and I am dying to get my hands on the next book. Go Weis and Hickman!!!
Rating: Summary: hope? Review: just finished it. Never felt so sad. The book is wonderful, now everything is clear....but at the end you feel so sad. It seems there is no hope, no escape from this One God or mina. The last one is Tas.....and of course i hope to see Fizban with him again. The book is a must, but makes it impossible to wait for the next one without fears for Krynn.
Rating: Summary: Dragons of a Lost Star Review: Love this story and can't wait to read the next book!!
Rating: Summary: War of Souls Vol. 2 Review Review: As a fan of the DragonLance series I bought this book before I even knew what it was about. Little did I know that this would be Magaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's great book yet. The charters all have a great show of justice no matter which side they serve, dark of light. And how they authors change a young teenage girl into a hero of darkness and the only healer of the ""One God" was infact great writing. Showing how the girl never truly doubting her savior "One God" but in a way, wondering if following this god is correct. The way Weis and Hickman bring it all together in the end after battles, wars, and other conflict is the best part of the book. Anyone who gives this novel less then a five star rating never read it or is illiterate!
Rating: Summary: Weis & Hickman Amaze! Review: They continue to pull it off, series after series. This time they have resurrected the DragonLance Series. Last Star continues with usual Weis & Hickman suspense. Tying up a few strings here dangling more there. Giving you just enough information to keep you hooked. The story unravels across Krynn, skipping from one place to another with wonderful smoothness. The changing of the guard goes full force as the Heroes of the Lance full pass on the reins. Our new set of heroes are quite a rag tag bunch. But then again...who are the heroes and who are the villians. The influence of the One God sweeps across the realms. As the elves fight for their survival, you wonder if the One God is on there side or not, and darnit WHO is this One God? This story will suck you in and leave you gasping for the conclusion, begging for more. This is a true masterpiece of fantasy that shouldn't be missed by anyone.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book...Weiss and Hickman shine yet again. Review: This book was excellent. I am really happy that they are starting to go back to the old ways that where the fourth age. I have to say however that I really hate Mina. She is totally evil and helping thwart every hope for peace. I hated it when she almost killed Skie (my favorite dragon). I have high hopes for the next installment in the series and I really hope that Paladine comes back to defeat Takhisis yet again.
