Rating: Summary: Logan Ferguson Review: When I read Dragons of a Summer Flame, the book detailing the Chaos War, I was high disappointed with the departure of gods and magic. Without gods and magics, Krynn was no longer fantasy. It seemed like it was moving forward to a modern era. I lost interest in 5th Age Krynn, with the great dragons and the weak magic being welded by the former wizards.Eventually though, I gave in and bought Dragons of a Fallen Sun. Although the book was alright, I really despised the similarities between Mina and Joan of Arc. It seemed like a blatant rip off. But in this book, Mina's zeal and spouting of One God theology is greatly toned down, much to my enjoyment. If I had wanted to read about the virtues of God, I'd go read the Bible. Dragons of a Fallen Star is a very good book, with plenty of action, and one of the best conclusions I've seen in a long time. It seems like Weis and Hickman and pretty much everyone at Wizards of the Coast have recognized their mistake with 5th Age, and are coming up with an excellent way to remedy it. The only bad part is this is a continuing series, and the 3rd book won't be out till April of 2002. Talk about a long wait!
Rating: Summary: I hate to say it.... Review: I just read through all the reviews, and the only one that even begins to capture the trueness of this book is from "A reader from Canada" on April 11th. True, there were a few good aspects of this book. But not enough by far. This is the first time i have ever been disappointed when reading one of MW & TH works. It saddens me greatly. Dragons of a Fallen Sun: It had an intriguing storyline. All the recaps & the cliffhanger ending were annoying, but acceptable because the book overall was so good. Now Dragons of a Lost Star has come. There wasn't enough quality storytime. Too much time spent explaining. I felt as if i were hearing about the events, as opposed to all their past books when i have felt like a PART of them. There wasn't enough feeling period. I hate to, but i must say it was similar to Jean Rabe's 5th age trilogy. It seems to me that MW & TH are trying to appeal to fans by recapturing things from their earlier books. Such as Tas (which i have no problem with that). Such as the way Laurana died. Let me ask you all, did anyone actually cry when she died? I felt nothing. When Sturm died i was heartbroken and balled my eyes out. Does anyone notice the problem here? Also how they are bringing the old gods back. Hey, i have no problem with the gods of Krynn. I hated it when the 5th age began (i cried then as well) and wanted nothing more then to see everything back to the way it used to be. But things are different now. A lot has changed. And i was hoping to see even more changes...hoping they would be for the better since MW & TH are back on the job. But instead of finding ways to work with this new age, to better it, they are simply converting it back to the way it used to be. I have one last problem with this book. Practically nothing was accomplished in it. Everything that happened could be told in a matter of minutes. All that was really revealed was who the One God was. There should have been more to this book. We deserve more. I hate to rant and rave, but i was highly dissapointed. I sure hope the next is better.
Rating: Summary: Get this book Review: Just finished reading this book and I must say it was far better than I expected. I am a huge DL fan but I thought nothing could compare to the first three books and boy was I wrong. Lost Star brings all the character devlopment, and great plot twists I could have hoped for. And as for the dramatic ending, have to wait and read it but, it was fantistic. Only problem now is waiting for the next book...arg, is there book spoliers? hehe.
Rating: Summary: Turing out to not be so bad.. Review: Dragons of a Fallen Sun was ok, but... lacking, you cared little if at all for most of them. This book developed the characters much more, comming to know and like and dislike certain characters has made this book enjoyable. The One God, and all the hints leading to who it actually was, also made it extremely enjoyable. I must say i was hopeing it was someone else... :) The only problem with the book was Palin and Dalamar. I would have liked to heard more in depth about what Dalamar had been exactly up to and such. Maybe an added chapter or two on how he came to be there and why. And this "shadow Mage" or such, that taught him his new art. Interesting Indeed. Just wish it went more into detail. The final book will be extremely good if it keeps flowing in the same direction that i'm predicting it will... Good Work.
Rating: Summary: The god in front of my face Review: My husband and I read this book together (we were fighting over who would get to read it first)and when we got to the one god, we were so disappointed. I am not sure if I was disappointed because it was a let down or if I was mad at myself for missing the obvious. I still can't wait for the third book to come out to see what on Krynn Tas has done to mess up everything. Overall a very good book.
Rating: Summary: Weis and Hickman do it again Review: Dragons of a Lost Star is a winner. The story continues weaving a web of beauty and mystique. As Mina continues to triumph over the peoples of Krynn, Palin begins to understand the mysteries surrounding a Kender named Tas. By far the most moving strand is that of Laurana and her son, and Goldmoon and Mina. But as the darkness overwhelmes the light, new heroes rise up to challenge the darkness. Dalamar's mysterious disappearance is revealed, the true origin of the bloated dragons that now rule Krynn is discovered and my heart is once again satisfied. Weis and Hickman are able to do something that no other authors can do, take us back to a place we love, and cause us to love it even more. I highly recommend this book. It is another masterpiece of writing. Thank You Margaret and Tracy for taking us home.
Rating: Summary: Weis and Hickman put together their best piece Review: Just as I expected, Dragons of a Lost Star is one of the best books (if not the best) I have ever read. Feelings felt for the characters in Dragons of a Fallen Sun change in this story, for better and for worse. The approach, the feel, the story. Everything. Absolutely amazing. True to the nature of Weis and Hickman books, the 2nd of their trilogies always brings the feeling that all is lost, only to give you a few glimmers of hope. So involved is the story, words cannot explain. Well done you two. I applaud you. I am once again in awe.
Rating: Summary: Weis and Hickman succeed again Review: I have been reading DragonLance novels since the very first one came out, and have always loved Weis and Hickman's stories. This book is no exception. There is finally something to cheer about as the inhabitants of Kyrnn start to unite against the evil dragons that have taken over their world. Many of the mysteries of the last book are revealed, and Tas continues to be the star of the series. If you have kept up with the Dragonlance series, I would highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not the best... Review: Yes, I was anticipating this book. Yet I cant help but think its a wee bit of a let down (isn't that how it works with anything thats anticipated?). Firstly - Its 100 pages shorter than DoFS...thats no big deal, I just was expecting somthing longer. Thats not to say that this shorter story isn't packed full of DL goodness. Secondly - The recap of DoFS in the first chapter was annoying...come on! We've obviously read the first book! We dont need a whole chapter recap. On the topic of recapping, the book also makes annoying recaps on stuff that the average DL fan already knows about (Do we REALLY need another long winded description of draconians? We know what they are!). Thirdly - This is nit picking, I just didn't like how Palin and Tas met up with Dalamar.... "Hey! Lets jump off the silver stair! Oh wow! Now we're somwhere diffrent and there's Dalamar!" I found it was kind of an anticlimactic intro to Dalamar... Other than those problems, I loved the book! It clears up alot of the mysteries of the first book (want to know who the one god is?) while leaving plenty for another book. Overall its a great book! It just isn't the best.
Rating: Summary: no longer lost Review: Not since the days of the Chronicles and Legends have i enjoyed reading so much. Dragons of a Lost Star is incredible! And while I had my doubts after reading the first War of Souls novel, Dragons of a Fallen Sun, rest assured fellow readers, all is right in the world of Krynn. Finally, the one God's identity is revealed! And you will kick yourselves because the answer is so obvious with all the elven wars. Qualinost under attack by the great Beryl! Once the one god is unmasked the pieces of this great and wonderful puzzle begin to fall into place. take note of the man aboard the Gull Wing, he's got alot of making up to do! do yourself a favor and run to buy this book. I promise, you wil not regret for one moment. the return of Dalamar! the secret behind the dead walking again! it's going to be a long year awaiting dragons of a Vanished Moon...
