Summary: None of this matters anyway....
Review: Most of the other reviewers have covered all possible gripes, groans, likes, and loves, so I wont rehash them. I have only one thing to add. Everything that happens in this trilogy is irrelevant. Remember we are dealing with "time-travel" and "altered history/future". So when tasslehoff and the gnome do their stuff, Krynn's future will be "righted" and none of this will ever have happened. Of course the journey is cool to watch, but we all know where it will lead.

Summary: I KNEW IT!!
Review: 'sall I really have to say. I started to get my suspicions in the middle of the FIRST book but didn't truly realize the identity of the One God until the first quarter of this book was past...the way this One God treated the Silvanesti elves cinched it for me so the end when the God was revealed there was no shock at all, just annoyance that I'm gonna hafta wait another eight months to see what happens next! I'm glad to see them turning the 5th Age around like this...I personally thought the 5th Age SUCKED BIG TIME! History repeats itself...

And just as the Humans blamed the Gods for and thought they were abandoned after the Cataclysm...

Summary: The Continuation of The Saga
Review: Man, there are some opinionated people out there is cyberspace. What qualifies one to be a book critic? (this question is intended to provoke thought, not to give me a definition)

I give it as my opinion that TSR, before WotC saved them, was bent on destroying the Dragonlance Saga with the 5th Age. With Peter Adkinson at the helm of Wizards, I believe he intended to bring DL back to where it belonged. TSR in pre-WotC days also had some poor authors write for the Saga. I have a personal short list that on one hand I can count the number of people I would have write DL novels.

At the top of that list is obviously Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. The War of Souls trilogy is the authors opportunity to fix nearly irrepairable damage done to Dragonlance. I won't spend the time here verbally sparing with individuals who have a poor opinion of the book. I will however say that in a day when there are few modern fantasy greats (a short list where I include Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman), the authors once again write a masterpiece of Krynn. In an age when most modern fantasy authors have to describe every gory detail of a battle or atrocity, it is refreshing to have the music of words written by such as these. I can only compare them with J.R.R. Tolkien in the imagery and imagination they conjure. In an age when popular fantasy authors are humanocentric, meaning there are only humans in their worlds, it's refreshing to read about dwarves and elves and those ever humorous kender (again I draw comparison with Tolkien). The strength of these two, in my opinion, is characterization. The characters in this book are alive in my mind. Tasselhoff will always be Tasselhoff and Gerard happens to be my favorite character followed closely by Marshal Medan. Another aspect that I have always admired about the authors is their sometimes subtle and not so subtle theme of good versus evil. This book has you thinking of the grey in between the extremes, but each character must, and does, choose one side or the other. For in this war there are no neutrals.

If any who has found adventure and the magic of Krynn and wants to find it again, read Dragons of a Lost Star. Dragonlance is alive and coming back with a vengence. In short, buy it, check it out or borrow it, but just read it.

Summary: The epic continues.
Review: Great read. Picks up where DoFS left off nicely. My complaints are few and far between but they include the following:

1)There was too much of the elves, I wanted to read about Palin! 2)I probably would've liked it to be a little longer.

In this book the side of darkness wins at almost every turn, leaving the good guys to gain a huge amount of ground in Vanished Moon. Although the elves have a victory at the end, it comes at a high price that they're not willing to pay. I was very intrigued by the passenger aboard the Gull Wing and can't wait for Vanished Moon to see who he is. If anyone has an opinion I'd like to hear it, you can contact me at delthyr@hotmail.com

Summary: Wishing the book had 10,000 pages!!!!
Review: I was first introduced to the great world of KRYNN in the year 1994 with Chronicles, and was inmedeatly living in that world. After what happen in the second cataclysm I, as a citizen of Ansalon, was also devastated. But last year hope returned in the hands of those 2 who have created the best fantasy world to live in, MW & TH. Now in this second part of this new saga I got the same feeling I had when reading DofaFS, wishing my trip back home would last a complete year. I was 17 years old again!! The book's content (of DofaLS) just melts and the empty longing returns. I'll just have to wait for another year in order to learn about the rebirth of KRYNN! This is a most welcome agony. BRAVO for MW & TH, you did it again.

Summary: weis & hickman correcting the 5th age
Review: it seems that this trilogy is mainly focusing on fixing the plot-shredding that jean rabe did to the DL series with her books - and in a way, cancelling out the entire "5th age" blunder that massacred the series six years ago. and tying up the loose ends with the few original characters left.

unfortunetly, since almost all of the original DL chracters were killed off in previous books, all of the new characters in this series are unoriginal and uninspiring. even Tas seems much more shallow than in the chronicles and legends, while palin seems more like a bystander. and as someone pointed out before, there is *way * to much time spent dealing with the elves. hey weis and hickman - this is dragonlance, we want dragons. if i wanted pages and pages of elves arguing with eachother, we'll get tolkein instead.

however, the book does the "feel" of the chronicles and legends, but not to such a great degree. better than the other DL material out there, at any rate.

Summary: The true review
Review: Hey you coniving READER FROM SOLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have just reuined the whole book for anyone who hasn't read it yet! Oh come on you do not tell everyone in your review what happened in this book! You are not a true Dragonlance fan if you didn't like this book. It was a bit boring at times but still it was very good. And for your info I did feel sad when she died and I bet you a lot of other people did to! So go back to where you came from and let the real people review this book! Now that that was done, In all truthfulness it was a great book. Not many people thought that any book that was about the 5th age was a good book, but this one and its predisesor broke that long line of duel books. This series will save the 5th age in my mind. Another thing, I think that MW and TH were right in explaining a lot about Krynns past. They needed to explain to the new readers all about that so no one would be confused. All in all again this was a great book.

SO READ IT! ALL DRAGONLANCE FANS SHOULD READ IT!

Summary: The Best Fantasy Series of all time continues...
Review: I've been enjoying Dragonlance since the mid-80's and here it is 2001 and Weis and Hickman haven't lost a step. This book exceeds the first book in the series in every way. More action, more drama and some huge secrets are revealed that will keep you reading till your eyes go red. This volume belongs in the top 5 Dragonlance books of all time. How the heck am I suppose to wait a year for volume 3? :) Dragonlance fans who haven't picked this up, buy it NOW!

Summary: The last few pages are the entire book.
Review: I give the two star rating (rather than less) mostly because the plotline is decent, but there isn't much of it. A synopsis of this book would be:

*)Tie up loose ends

*)Find out a little more about what is happening to the dead.

*)Tie up some more loose ends

*)Find out who the "One God" is.

You could read all of _Fallen Sun_ and then the last chapter of _Lost Star_ and pretty much know what is going on.

I agree with some other readers that the recaps are annoying, but I guess I have gotten use to it, as this is the 11th book in the "mainline" sequence (3 Chronicles 3 Legends, Summer Flame, Soulforge, Brothers in Arms, Fallen sun, lost star). I have also gotten use to the positively-horrid-tell-you-everything-because-you-can't-see-it-on-your-own writing that plagues Hickman's work. Furthermore, I was surprised at who the "True God" was...not "Wow, you really got me there" surprised, but "Oh, I thought you had something better in store" surprised. I would have given the book 3 stars otherwise. Finally, I would like to offer my views on things to look for in the third book: Note how Wayreth Castle still hasn't turned up. Note how this mage "Bogan" is mentioned and not described much. Note how Raistlin's absence is still not accounted for. NOte how Raistlin and Fizban simply walked off at the end of _Summer Flame_.... Note how, at the end of summer flame, Raistlin is able to still command the staff of Magius. I think we should watch for Raistlin in the tower of Wayreth coming in to "save the day" again. I was a bit surprised and unhappy when HE wasn't revealed as the "One true God," but given who the "One true God" turns out to be, it would not be out of character for Him to come back on the scene...it appears they are going to need him.

Summary: Hmm, Kenders that know fear, thats different....
Review: As you would guess from me writting a review, I love the DL series. Since your reading this revies, you have probably read most of the DL series, and you know you will buy this book, I just need to get some thoughts out about it. Now that that is out of the way I must confess that I thought this book was weak FOR a Weis and Hickman book. That isn't saying much since they are 2 of the best Fantasy authors ever, but this book showed a VERY different dark side to Krynn. The book didn't suck me in like thier other books have (I still finished it in 2 days) because I really didn't like the characters as much as I have in their former books. Tasslehoff is not TAS in this book. He, along with Krynn have changed drastically, whether for good or bad is yet to be seen. This series has the potentiall to be one of their best to date, it all relies on the final chapter. I felt that they left too much to be settled in the final book, but they may surprise me. All I know is that I think I know what will happen, but I find it hard to believe that it can all happen in one book considering the relatively small amount of change in this book. I feel that this book ended with Krynn in about the same state as it was at the end of Fallen Sun. I feel that the One God was poorly choosen, and way too obviouse. Gee, I wonder what will happen in the next book, doubt Fisbutt (hehe) will show up... To some up, this book gives the series infinite potential, but if it is a success remains to be seen. I hope for the best.
