Rating: Summary: Read it if you can find it. Review: The time you are spending reading these reviews would be better spent reading the book. It is a msterpiece of literature, pure and simple. Far and away the best thing Roger Zelazny ever wrote, and that is saying a lot.
Rating: Summary: very simply, one of the best novels around, in any genre. Review: this is my personal favorite; it's hard to explain this book's power and range to one who hasn't read it- the scope of issues covered, the flow of the narative, the exquisite characters. suffice it to say that if you are looking to see what science fiction is about, what its role is in human interactions, this is The One.
Rating: Summary: You need to read this Book! Review: This is an absolutely wonderful, magnificent, masterpiece of science fiction. Why is this book out of print? This is a crime of high proportions, that is, that no one is now printing this book. Please someone, I have read this book only from my public library where they have a copy, but I want to buy it sooo bad!!!!! Publishers of the world, you need to print this--it's the best!!
Rating: Summary: My favorite SciFi of all time! Review: Works on many levels, but it can be read as a great adventure like Ivanhoe or Treasure Island. Religon mixed with science and technology; where is the line between them? What direction can the corruption of absolute power take, when that power is life after death! What could be done, if one could live a thousand lifetimes? What would you do to live just one more lifetime? The most disappointing thing to me, is that the author, in my opinion has never come close to equaling this book, but then, no one else has either.
Rating: Summary: One of the best of all time Review: One of the great books of all time. Colorful and complex characters, political commentary, religious commentary, sex, war, mysticism, science, and awesome dialogue. I've read it at least 6 times, and often replay it in my head. Can anyone explain to me WHY THIS BOOK IS OUT OF PRINT??!!!
Rating: Summary: Unique angle in science fiction Review: Eastern indian mythology is bent to fit a scientific explanation. Brilliant treatment of an arcane subject and the best of its kind. Not to be missed.
Rating: Summary: Zelazny's best, and one of the best ever. Review: I read this novel in 1970 a couple of years after it was first published, and probably half a dozen times since. This story works on many levels, making it enjoyable to a wide audience. Its works as an adventure novel, a mythological fable, and as hard sci-fi with a sharp edge of social conscience. The characters are well developed throughout the story, but only late in the plot line do we really begin to understand their true motivations. And from start to finish, there's enough mystery, intrigue, and action to satisfy most anyone. In the end, the story works as a parable illustrating the greed, and lust for power common in human nature and history. It shows as well, that the true motivation of our "heroes" is seldom what it appears on the surface to be. So, whether you enjoy Lord of Light as a fantasy, an adventurous escape from reality, hard Sci-Fi, or as social commentary on human weaknesses, excesses, and strengths, enjoy it you most certainly will!
Rating: Summary: Unfolding Epic of Jungian Proportion Review: I find myself wanting to read this book again. The classic story of Siddhartha and his battle against corrupt, cruel and uncaring gods played out on a human scale. This book got me interested in Buddhaism. Tragedy and triumph of characters that you feel for, written in a lilting and poetic style. Roger Zelazny crafted this novel powerfully and beautifully. His technique resulted in stories that were approachable, enjoyable and deep with meaning. Lord of Light bears up well and is a good example of Zelaznys' wor
Rating: Summary: DO NOT PASS THIS ONE! You will never know what you've missed Review: A very different story from (in my humble opinion) one of the best SF writers of all time. Very well developed characters, good plot, and in one of the most imaginative and colorful settings. If you are into mythology you will come back to it time and again, but to get satisfaction from this wonderful book, such knowledge is hardly essential. I rather think there should another rating above 10 for such few books as this one is
Rating: Summary: The man who would oppose the Gods. Review: Combining his wonderful characters with his subtle senseof humor, Zelazny has created another great work. In Lordof Light, Mahasamatman (drop the Maha- & the -atman and call him Sam) opposes the technologically created Godsbased on the Hindu pantheon. Like an abstract painting, every time you read this book something new is seen, felt,or experienced. This book is another example of why Zelazny one of the greatest sci-fi writers of all time
