Rating: Summary: God's Hand in the Affairs of Man Review: I first read this book as a young man and have re-read it several times since. It's a bit anti-religious (as are many of Heinlein's books) and explains many of the random happenings in the life of Job as the results of the lack of caring by deities. The beautiful twist Heinlein uses in the late part of the book to contrast the devil & Jesus are a pure delight to me and pure Heinlein at his disgruntled best. Some parts are tough reading due to the time jumps, but persevere and you'll be rewarded with a beautiful twist at the end.
Rating: Summary: Great Read Review: If you are a R.A.H. fan this is a must!!!
Rating: Summary: The Truth is Hard to Accept Review: This story reflects my life.
I am challenged, and so is my faith.
And I am not the first.
This tale makes me smile and focuses my priorities.
Rating: Summary: A shining jewel on Library shelf... Review: I was in high school and summer had just begun. Going to the Library at the begining of summer had become an anual ritual of sorts. But that summer had started off pretty poorly. I went to the library and headed for the sci-fi/fantasy section. There were plenty of books but none that I had heard of. So I picked up Dune, Foundation, and some of Tolkien's stuff all of which I had the summer before. As I sat in the Library I grew somewhat depressed as I looked at the covers of the books I had checked out realizing that I wanted something new. I put quickly put the books back and went hunting for new ones. I picked up a book that someone had told me about called Mote in God's Eye. Then I went to the Robert Heinlein section and picked up the one with the best cover. It ws called Job: A comedy of Justice. I began to read it on the way home and took an immediate interest in it. It was by no means hard-core sci-fi or even hard-core fantasy but it was still very intruiging. I finished the book that same night at about 2 A.M. It was perhaps the most origonal book I had ever read and even one of the most humorous. The book does not have any real action per se but there is quite a bit of insight on religon and what is important in life. Caution! Be careful about giving this book to anyone who is religiously extreme or anyone who is very closeminded (they often times go hand in hand). You must read the book with an open mind to really apreciate what the book is trying to tell you. Overall this is a 10. There are absolutly no faults in this book. None whatsoever. It is exciting despite it's lack of action and mind-bogling despite it's apparent straightforward language. It's plot is twisted but not so twisted that it is hard to follow. One of my all time favorites! It was my first taste of Heinlein 's works. After reading such an aweinspiring work of a true master, what book can compare?
Now what shall I read
Rating: Summary: One of my top 5! Review: This is the one I turn to when I feel like my life stinks. NOBODY's life is this bad
Rating: Summary: An interdimensional tale with a religious twist... Review: Mr. Heinlein has once again proven that he is indeed a master in the art of storytelling. His blending of fantastic tales with just the slightest touch of wit is truly wonderful. The religious twist in the latter third of the book adds spice to what was already a sumptuous meal. This book just goes to show why Mr. Heinlein is one of our most beloved authors... an excellent wordsmith that spins wonderful stories
Rating: Summary: Another great one from the greatest sci-fi writer ever Review: This is one Heinlein's best books. He sucessfully manages to create a story that takes a religious reference and moves it into the realm of science fiction. It is a wonderful study of the religious nature and human nature of mankind
Rating: Summary: The master of sci-fi does it again !! Review: Heinlein has surpassed himself. If you are a Heinlein fan you
simply must read this book no but's about it. If on the other hand you
are not yet a fan here is the perfect opportunity to become one.
Heinlein enquiry into the fundamental nature of the universe is quite simply superb.
Rating: Summary: An excelent book for one low on religious values Review: A Heinlein classic from beginning to end and one that I hold in high esteem. I caution religious fanatics because of the highly idealistic content
Rating: Summary: Bent Religion Review: Heinlein again shows his mastery of western religion and culture in this remarkable journey though lost time and space. The casual and almost charming hypocracy of the main character only serves to underscore the irony that is inherent in strong religious conviction. A funny, warm story set in a very uncertain universe.
