Rating: Summary: An ok book by his own standard Review: It is too bad that Mr. Zahn couldn't beat his own work and had to borrow from his past works. Still, this book is by far, better than the other star wars book I've read for the past 2 years. And, thank god the love story between Luke and Callista is over, she was soooo boring and depressing to read. If Mr. Zahn is going to do a Luke + Mara type of plot, please give us a happy ending. Very intersring how our villian reveals most of his cards before the story ended, yet still hides most of them away. I also think most of the plots are just recycles from the first trilogies that he wrote many years ago. Anyway, I hope the second book of the series is better than this one.
Rating: Summary: I love Zahns Starwars books The Magic is back !!!!!! Review: Zahn practically invented the starwars universe after ROTJ with Heir To The Empire (A must read!!!) When I first heard about the Hand of thrawn I couldn't wait to read it. As expected it is magic !!!!! I can't wait to get hold on the sequel. When I read Zahns books I feel the force They are so great they even destroy the possibility of making movies after ROTJ because I think most of you agree that Zahn`s books are equal to the movies in reliability about the starwars universe. When I read I feel ,The dream Luke had in the end gave me the chills, The characters Karrde, Mara Jade, G A Thrawn and Pellaon is the greatest additions to the starwars universe ever since the movies !!!!!! I love the situations Zahn puts the main characters in ! Specially all those hard choses about the ones they care for Anyone agrees ? Mail me if ya wanna THANK YOU MR ZAHN !!!!!!! One part of me is waiting for the solution of the greatest most epic story ever (STARWARS) and one part of me wants it to never end Gotta go Seeya all *S*
Rating: Summary: I really enjoyed this book. Review: This was indeed a great book. I like the way the mention of Grand Admiral Thrawn's name strikes fear into the hearts of the New Republic. I have read every book that has come out since the movies ended. My only complaint is that I finished this book about 9 months ago and I am really getting anxious waiting for the second book in this series to come out. Can someone please speed up Mr. Zahn's writing. Does anyone know when the next book is coming out or what the title will be? Please email some info if anyone knows. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: The best is here at last! Review: Awesome. The book left me spellbound, and I can't wait for the next book(s)to come out. I loved every second of it, and for everyone who gave it less than a 8, needs to burn in the eternal, ever burnig flame, of the darkest inferno, of blackest hell. This book was, as they would say in french, Creme ala Creme(best of the best)!
Rating: Summary: Excellent- A must for any Starwars fan. Review: Zahn is the #1 writer for the StarWars Universe. Specter is an great story and keeps the classic Starwars cliffhanger effect. Tierce is a fantastic character. Perhaps a future book about the Royal Guard?? I would also like to hear more on Mara Jade, and is she going to get together with Luke or what. The overall story is captivating and and a good read. I like the return of Thrawn, the Empire needs help, even if he's an imposter .
Rating: Summary: Pretty good, but when is the sequel coming out? Review: I thought it was a very good book, (but not as good as the Heir to the Empire series) but there was only one thing that didn't make sense, and I am surprised that no one else has commented on it. Call me niave, but I don't think that people would be so mad at an entire species just for something that a single member of their species did 50 years ago! I am unlike any other human, and would not want to be punished for something that someone did before I was born. But otherwise it was an excellent book, and I can't wait for the sequel to come out.
Rating: Summary: A mediocre re-hash of the "heir to the empire" trilogy Review: This story is a complete waste of money. For a much better book, re-read "Heir to the Empire". The plot is a re-hash of Zahn's last trilogy and even has a cornball reincarnation of dead characters and a reused plot. It was nice to revisit some of the popular characters, but the story itself was impotent and dull.
Rating: Summary: This book was great! Review: I thought that the beginning of this new Zahn trilogy was wonderful. For the Star Wars fan, this book is a "must read." It really sets the stage for the next two books. The characters hold true to their personalities, and the situations Zahn has created are fantastic. The idea of the Empire possibly surrendering to the New Republic is awesome. The possibility of Luke and Mara getting together is great! I just can't wait until the sequel comes out!
Rating: Summary: Pretty good, could have been better Review: Timothy Zahn is my favorite Star Wars author by far. I've always felt that he, out of all the rest, is the only person who has ever been able to capture the Star Wars magic in his books. Specter of the Past is a good book with a plot that just wasn't what his original trilogy had. I love Paelleon and Karrde and using them both in this story was a good idea. I wish Zahn would have done more with Paelleon and less with his new characters, Tierce, Disra, and Flim, which I find rather dull. I remember when I read his first trilogy, I found myself rooting for Thrawn and Paelleon as much as I did for Luke and all the good guys. He just made them so interesting and so real. That's one thing this book lacks. The bad guys just aren't intersting. In the next book, if Zahn does more with Paelleon, I think the it will be better. Still, it is an excellent tale as only Timothy Zahn can tell them. I mean, some of the garbage from the Black Fleet Crisis, like the Quella and the warping of the personalities of most of the characters, was just too much. It totally ruins the Star Wars universe. With Zahn writing books again, I'm a happier reader. I recommend that you read this book, although it doesn't quite have the power that Zahn's original trilogy did.
Rating: Summary: more good stuff, please! Review: zahn, please, don't tease us with just touching on all the great details of the star wars galaxy! more about the force, more about paelleon, more more more about mara! the plot seems more like a collection of subplots and not one cohesive story, unlike his first trilogy. and just when are luke and mara going to get together?
