Rating: Summary: Zahn does it again! Review: Zahn is back! "Spector" is one of those books you just can't put down--and one that leaves you begging for more! He introduces some great new storylines--the Empire surrendering, Thrawn returning, a new twist on Luke and Mara's relationship, the Bothan intrigue...its all fantastic! Well-written as usual, Zahn proves again he is the master of the Star Wars books. I can't wait for the next one!!
Rating: Summary: ZAHN ISN'T ENOUGH!!! NEED MORE WRITERS!!! Review: Timothy Zahn is one of the best science fiction writers out there, and he does the most convincing Star Wars I have read yet. However, as a result, I can't get enough Star Wars! Are there any other writers who can write a good Star Wars story? All the other Star Wars books I have read are junk and make me cringe...and yawn while reading them the FIRST time. Zahn gets my addrenaline pumping as I read and keeps me glued until the finish. So, can anyone else do that with Star Wars? Meanwhile, I will order Specter of the past. Two other things I have desired for: I wish Luke would actually get captured by the Imperials: that would make things a LOT more interesting. Second, a question: does Luke become more powerful in this book (i.e. more like a Jedi Master)? Finally, Mark Hamill did a lousy job of acting in Return of the Jedi, althought the other movies were ok in that respect. Star Wars FANATIC END
Rating: Summary: Excellent book...bad idea Review: Don't get me wrong, the book was excellent...but the thing about bringing Thrawn back, bad idea. He was part of the first trilogy and should remain part of the first trilogy.
Rating: Summary: Finally an auther that can write Review: Thank god that timothy Zahn finally decided to write another book. It gets boring when all there is is these wannabe writers. Zahn knows how to make a book flow together and be interesting. he actually makes you think and doesnt try to make something more powerful than the force such as the WHITE CURRENT. That book really sucked it was boring " Luke dont kill anyone." I think lucas should kick out the rest of these wannabe writers out and give Zahn and Stackpole exclusive writes.
Rating: Summary: Are you people insaine? Review: You want Mara And Luke together?! It would never work! Mara would kill him! Not to mention the fact that there is no way that mara would live at the Jedi acadame. And dont even think about her and Lando. No No No! Mara Jade and Talon Karrd belong together!!!!! I mean look at his reaction when luke told him he had a vision that Mara looked dead in! The man was ready to send his entier fleat of ships after one person! Dose that tell you something? I will admit that Luke dose need a girlfriend BUT NOT MARA!!!
Rating: Summary: Just Wait Till We Get The Sequel . . . Review: A good read that left me in suspense at the end. This is only one third of the story, so I am really waiting for the sequel. Hopefully, Luke and Mara will get into a relationship there . . .
Rating: Summary: I loved this book Review: I thought that this book is great even if he used Thrawn again. I mean Thrawn was such an interesting character to begin with, I was almost sad he died at the end of the origanal trilogy. If Zahn wanted to bring him back thats OK with me. And I also liked the way that he had those alien ships popping in at strange times, but never really expained what they were. That left a lot to just be imagined. I think that the book is going to be even better once I read the next one and fully understand all about them and other things. In the end, I think this book is one of the best in the Star Wars universe as of yet.
Rating: Summary: This book continues Zahn's mastery of the Star Wars Books Review: Specter of the Past was a book I long awaited to come out. It seems Zahn is the only writer who can accurately capture the feel of the movies. I was extremely happy to see him pushing Luke and Mara together. I hope that he will continue this in Vision of the Future. This is definitely one of the best Star Wars books ever written. It has raised the bar on Star Wars literature significantly. I can't say enough.
Rating: Summary: It ain't over till the fat lady sings Review: Over the years, Timothy Zhan has proven himself to be counted amoung the best writers in the business, both in the Star Wars saga and in the regular SF world (read the Conquorers Pride series and you'll see what I mean). Spectre of the past has been said by many to be less than his first triology, in complexity, plot structure, and character development. Of course it is, because it is only one book of a series and not the entire story. There are many plot threads left frayed in Spectre of the Past, but as a long time Zhan fan I can say that when the second book comes out those threads will weave together a tapestry so complex that you won't see the entire pattern until he's finished. Ive seen Zhan take a lot of flak on this page from rehashing the same story, again and again. In all of his previous works, both novels and short stories, he has never simply done a "rehash", and I don't expect him to start now ,and I eagerly await the sequel. My main disapointment was that there was no preview of the sequel at the end of the story. Unlike many of the other Star Wars writers, Zhan carefully plans out each and every plot and subplot to form a whole work portrayed in amazing detail, and like the character Thrawn playing games with the rebels, you won't see whats coming until it's too late. Instead of complaining that Zhan had to reintroduce the fear of Grand Admiral Thrawn to sell books, cogitate instead on those mysterious space ships that appear at various times. If Zhan put them there, they're there for a reason and I, for one, am willing to bet they will play a pivitol role in the sequel. Over all the book is of excellent quality and shows the craftsmanship of a true Zhan masterpeice, richly detailed to the point you have to read it several times to pick up on all of it. I wish mroe writers would spend the time and pay as much attention to details as Zhan would. Buy the book, it is easily worth the $23 I paid for it when it came out.
Rating: Summary: AAAAAAH the suspense is killing me... Review: I loved this book! I think the only part I didn't really like was the last sentence (To Be Concluded...). I thought the chapters that concerned Rogue Squadron had really funny beginnings, and I liked the suspense. I can't wait to read the sequel... in fact, I wrote Zahn a letter asking when I could expect to see it. Zahn is, as usual, a master of the art of Star Wars.
