Summary: This makes me hungry for more!
Review: Timothy Zahn is a good writer. He catches the reader's imagination from the beginning of the book. I liked the part where Thrawn's impersonator came under pressure when he had to answer Lando's questions. The plot of the book does not allow you to make easy predictions of what happens next. I can't wait to read Zahn's next book.

Summary: WOW!!!!!!
Review: My first word after finishing this book was WOW. This was such a great book, I couldn't put it down. I t was powerful and moving, definetly one of the best Star Wars books I have ever read. Timothy Zahn is a great author and draws you into the story. I advise all Star Wars fans, READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: A wonderful return of Zahn with his new book!
Review: This is generally a great book though I was a little disappointed with the return of an imposter Grand Admiral Thrawn. But I guess this is rather new and different from the expected return of a clone of Thrawn. On the whole, I truly enjoyed the book and polished it in 2 days.

Summary: An excellent book, but confusing in parts
Review: Congratulations on another excellent book! Like the rest of Zahn's work, this kept me on the edge of my seat! In agreement with other readers, I think his books would be incredible on the big screen. Only one question- in the book, It said Leia was not the President/chief of state- when did THAT happen?? If anyone knows, please write me, and let me know where in the timeline it is supposed to be. Other than that, great book!!

Summary: Awright!
Review: Whooo! Star Wars (the TRUE Star Wars)has returned. Chock-full of action, drama, and cool interplay.... And not full of Leia-the-all-wise-self-effacing-and-totally-wimp leader, Han-the-respectable (yeah right!) and most importantly, Luke-the-self-proclaimed-Jedi-Master! They're all back the way we picture 'em, the way we want to picture 'em, and the way they'd BETTER keep picturin' them! Much more interesting (I think) than the Heir to the Empire trilogy though a lot less ground breaking. But who cares! The ground Zahn broke back then is more'n sufficent enough to make this one awesome. Timothy Zahn, I bow before you! You are the Alpha and the Omega of Star Wars writers! Long live Timothy Zahn! You have saved us from a time of totally crappy and OOC (out-of-character:)) Star Wars books! (a la Crystal Star, Children of the Jedi, Darksaber, the Jedi Academy trilogy, etc.)

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Nothing ground breaking.
Review: I echo preceding comments about the book being slow to get going, and when it does, it seems to lose it's way a little and start meandering it's way through several chapters. It's a good book alright, but don't expect to be gripped.

Summary: Zahn's best book yet! Amazing! Exciting!
Review: Spectar of the Past is the best SW book I have read and I have read alot! Zahn does a great job of leaving you wondering what will happen next. He does a good job of incorparating the Force in this book. You learn more about alot of the characters in this. The book makes you feel like you're watching a movie more than reading a book. Of all the books I've read, this is the best. I personnally believe that this book actually makes you think the Imperials might win. Every time the rebels (or New Republic) wins too easily. This completly changes your perspective of the Empire and how pitiful the Rebellion was compared to the Empire during A New Hope.

Summary: One of Zahn's greatest!
Review: This book is excellent. I especially like the return of Talon Karrde and Rogue Squadron. I also like the whole bit with Thrawn's "return". Can't wait for Vision of the Future to come out on paperback!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Zahn makes a brave and laudable attempt at a come-back.
Review: Once again, Zahn returns with a novel about the Grand Admiral Thrawn, justifiably described as 'the greatest leader the Empire has ever known'. Once again his characters are top-class, and once again he proves his ability to keep the reader rivetted to the chair, eye-deep in a Galaxy far away...

However. The same problems I stumbled across in his earlier SW trilogy are present here, most noticeably that of power decline. Firstly, Zahn had to combine two characters (Thrawn and Joruus) in his trilogy to present a baddie with remotely the same power as Darth Vader. Now, after both of those are dead, Zahn has brought the Grand Admiral back to life...under a shaky alliance of THREE people, trying to fill the Grand Admiral's shoes.

Simply put, the power of the adversary characters is roughly one-sixth that of Lucas' Darth Vader. This shows through in the petty squabblings which Zahn's Empire (admittedly weakened by the writings of previous SW writers, who inflicted defeat after defeat on the Empire to such an extent that one almost feels sorry for them) engages in. We have three people, fighting amongst themselves, trying to live up to the greatness of one person...who had to have help from another in order to live up to Vader's power.

Fair enough, Zahn has to pick up the shattered pieces of the SW galaxy after the remorseless and talentless injuries inflicted upon it by earlier authors, but that does not disguise the fact which Zahn himself grudgingly acknowledges in this book: 'the Empire is dying'.

If you like sci-fi, then read this book. If you really really like sci-fi, then don't read this or any Star Wars book (the rules of physics are broken too often - stick with Arthur C Clarke and Isaac Asimov).

Also, if you like Star Wars, then read this book. But, if you really really like Star Wars, then don't. You may start to wonder troubling thoughts. Thoughts like: what will we do when all the baddies are dead?

You can't kill off the Empire. Do so, and you totally destroy any possibility of future stories, because nothing will ever be as fearsome or as powerful without also breaking the 'feel' of Star Wars. Yet, that is what is happening in varying increments, in these stories. I wonder what Zahn will write about when this batch of nasties (as they will eventually have to do) die.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Can't he get any new ideas?
Review: It was an okay book, but like the other Zahn books, was very slow moving. And he had the EXACT same characters as the other trilogy. (Pellaeon, Thrawn, etc) I mean, come on!
