Summary: exciting fantasy novel
Review: In Evelon, a civil war amongst the Elves led to the losing side escaping through the Gate into another world where they promptly conquered the land and enslaved the native humans. Each Elvenlord has his own estate with human slaves bound to him by a magical collar and spell. However, the world is in a state of chaos because the Elvenbane, a female wizard was able to get the half bloods to revolt. The Young Lords, the second and third sons of the Great Lords, are in open revolt of their sires, wanting power of their own.

Kyrtian, an elven lord who lives on a backwater estate, is different than his depraved brethren. He cares about the humans on his estate and treats them like servants. Their slave collars are only decoration and their loyalty to him makes them an army to be reckoned with. His military knowledge gets him the position of the commander of the army, his mission to put down the rebellion. On the alert for betrayal, Kyrtian also searches for the Gate in hopes of learning what happened to his missing father who sought the Great Portal.

When Andre Norton and Mercedes Lackey, two of the premier fantasy writers in existence, collaborate on a work, the readers can expect an excellent tale. ELVENBORN is an exciting fantasy novel filled with action and adventure, a stand-alone work even though it is part of the half blood chronicles. Elven society and culture is so intricately detailed that one would think that the authors visited the place.

Summary: Another Lackey Hit!
Review: In this stunning sequel to Elvenblood and Elvenbane, Lackey succeeds once again in creating a masterpiece. The third book has all the magic and fireworks of the first two books. It has the same characters from the two first books plus some new characters, namely a young elven lord named Krytian.
Although the book mainly focuses on Krytian's struggle to keep his own views against slavery free from the taint of the rest of his world, it is not any less of a great book.
There is some new romance, new plots by the elves and wizards and much more!

I strongly recommend it and am eagerly awaiting the forthcoming Elvenbred.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: It is hard for me to compare this book in quality to the first two in the series, Elvenbane and Elvenblood, because it has been so long since I read them, but my overall impression is that those books were of higher quality than this one.
My biggest problem with this book was that we are told what character development we are supposed to be seeing, not shown it by good writing. In the beginning, characters around the main character, Kyrtian, continually comment on how naive he is. Later, we are subjected to comments and even thoughts of the character himself on the fact that it is a good thing he is no longer naive, and has learned so much. Does he show that by his actions? I'm not sure. I was too distracted by the characters telling me about it.
This trend of telling not showing continues to varying degrees throughout the book, though its not so blatant in other places.
Finally, the ending was too obviously a set up for the next book. Nothing is explained, and my main reaction was pretty much 'what the heck???'
All in all, a very readable book, but I'd suggest that you approach it from the standpoint of finding out what happends next to characters you already know, not for the writing itself. If you haven't read the first two books, there's really no point.

Summary: MUST READ for fans!!!...
Review: Like all chronicles, it took me some pages to refamiliarize myself with the characters, but Lackey and Norton's writing is so well thought out that it did not take me long. DO NOT READ THIS BOOK WITHOUT READING ELVENBANE AND ELVENBLOOD FIRST!!! You will be totally lost! But if you have read those two books, read this book immediately!!! The epic continues in the beautiful world of the elven people, the wizards, the Iron people, Dragons, and even more people and turns are introduced, all beautifully woven together like a tapestry!! A MUST READ!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Summary: A fantastic end to the trilogy
Review: Like some of the other reviewers, I've been a fan of this series from the start, and eagerly awaited the release of this, the third book in the trilogy. Not only do I find the world Lackey/Norton constructed fascinating, but it's a very different spin than other authors have given to human-elven-dragon interaction, and I love it. It should go without saying that no-one should read any trilogy-finishing book without first having read the preceding two in the series, but with the way Lackey and Norton wrote the second and third books, this is even more important. Although the dedicated reader gets the updates on existing major characters that he/she craves, a whole new host of characters and circumstances is introduced as well, making this book not only a delightful continuation of the first two, but surprising and even more complex than I imagined it would be. It was definitely worth the wait, but as always with books I love - too short! I think I finished it in seven or eight hours on one day, since I'm a fast reader. Now I'll have to wait for the next offering!

Summary: Good Light read, good backgroud
Review: This book added lots of depths to the world and some good characters I'd like to see continued, but . . .

WHERE'S THE PROMISED 4TH BOOK?
