Summary: Wow.
Review: Lots of other reviewers are claiming that Williams is getting a little cocky from his MS&T success. I honestly couldn't say. I read Otherland: City of Golden Shadow and Otherland: River of Blue Fire before beginning The Dragonbone Chair.

First of all, I would like to say that I am NOT an SF person. I like fantasy much more -- particularly because I can understand most of the terms. I don't like sitting down and starting a science fiction book and realizing the only reason I am continuing it is because I want to seem smart in front of other normal people who would open the book and go: "Gee. What does this mean?" Mentally, I would be thinking: "I had the same problem," while physically I would be saying: "It's...um..."

The beginning was well-written, and the writing did not worsen as the novel progressed -- it became even better. So good that I couldn't wait for Vol. 2 to come out in PB; I borrowed it from the library, something I never do unless I am certain the books are going to not be worth buying or I am uncertain about them. I cannot wait for Mountain of Black Glass. I will probably BUY it in HB. Who knows?

Read this book. Don't be put off by the reviews of other people. Its long but not boring and I finished it FAST. Now I'm reading the Dragonbone Chair. Maybe its because I can't wait for Vol. 3 that it just doesn't seem as good as Otherland...

Summary: I can't imagine anything better!
Review: Although I have not yet read MS&T I find it hard to believe that it could possibly be better than this. William's masterfully meshed the story together: futuristic setting w/classic human conflicts, aboriginal man vs. modern man (or woman), mysterious and eluding puzzle that slowly yet surely comes together. The only "problem" I could possibly think of was that he changed characters and stories too often, but I sense that those to will inevitabley come together. I am all too anxious to read the rest the OTHERLAND series.

Summary: FANTASTIC would be an understatement...
Review: This is the first book in what will be ( according to Tad Williams himself ) a four book cycle. This book is mostly set up for the series. READ IT! After you finish it get the next volume and sit back and keep the phone handy. Your going to be calling to cancel engagements and tell your boss you won't be in until you finish the book. I am a huge fan of the sci-fi fantasy genre and find the growing pseudo-cyberpunk subgenre to be very compelling. Telling a story based entirely in a computer system is a difficult undertaking, but Tad Williams makes it seem like the easiest thing in the world to do. His characters are fresh and exciting and not at all what you would expect in any novel let alone a sci-fi epic. The story itself will keep you wondering what's next, and the variety and originality of the virtual worlds is unbelievable! I guarantee you will not be disappointed! BUY THIS BOOK!!! AND THEN BUY ALL THE SEQUELS!!!

Summary: I absolutely love this book!
Review: I can't wait for the rest of the series to be finished. I recommend this book to anyone who liked Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn or The Lord of the Rings. In fact, I recommend it to everyone! Don't be intimidated by the length. You won't want it to be over. It is fantastic book, and you won't regret reading or buying it. I own the hardcover, and plan to collect the entire series. This is one book that you don't want to miss out on. You will treasure it for years to come.

Summary: BEST BOOK EVER...THE MOST DIVERSE IVE EVER READ
Review: IF YOUR LOOKING FOR SUSPENSE, HORROR, SCI FI, AND ALL AROUND GREAT FICTION...THIS IS THE SERIES.

Summary: Yawn
Review: Where are the good editors??? It seems we are being innundated with a sea of thick, overly long books that have decent thin books inside them struggling to get out. Unfortunately, Tad loses this struggle. I'll probably read (skim) the sequel but only because there's not enough good stuff out there to keep me going for long.

It's really too bad because I loved his Memory Sorrow and Thorn series. Oh well.

Summary: All those memories
Review: I picked this book up after being wowed by the MS&T trilogy; but seriously doubted, correctly, if Williams could pull it off again. Although it would be an OK novel by a new author, it is clear after a couple pages that Williams is just trying to relive his MS&T glory. It has the trademark rambling storylines, flocks of characters, and triumphant conclusions anyone with an IQ of three saw coming 100 pages back. But, where the characters and the incredibly imaginative fantasy world save MS&T, this one falls flat with uncreative, uninteresting plot devices and characters.

Summary: A perfect book that will overload your senses!
Review: In the near future, Virtual Reality has nearly become a person's entire life. The Grail Brotherhood has somehow found a way to upgrade the network until it cannot be separated from real life. Children are being thrust into comas because of it. Only a few people are trying to stop it before the Brotherhood reach their ultimate goal...

Summary: Good book but not the five stars
Review: Otherland was a great novel but five stars it was not. If you can get through the first 300 pages of the book then you're fine. I found it enjoyable after those 300 but before hand it was a chanllenge to continue. Questions on top of questions is not the way I normally view life. Otherland is a break from the normal and if you like that then read the book. Get past those first 300 pages and I can honestly say you'll enjoy it. I did.

Summary: Fast paced, mildly confusing, but INCREDIBLE!!!
Review: After finishing Williams' other epic journey, Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, I was afraid that he would be completely out of ideas for this next project. I can honestly say that I have NEVER been so wrong in my life!!!

Otherland is a brilliant book with brilliant imagery and, you guessed it, brillian, sympathetic characters. The only problem, and it is but a minor one, is that the book is SO detailed and SO complex that it becomes hard comprehend all the info at once. Williams' is such a master of storytelling, however, that you are never confused for more than a moment while reading.

So now that I am quite happy that I haven't given away any key parts of the plot I'd just like to give the potential reader a little suggestion: hold on tight, its one hell of a ride...
