Summary: One of the greatest Sci - Fi series ever!
Review: I didn't think this book was too long. I was sorry to see it end. Book 2 is the best one, so far. Book 3 falls somewhat flat in comparison.

Summary: Immense
Review: Very involved, the seemingly repetitous "worlds within the net" are slowly coming together to form a bigger picture.

Summary: Final Review you will ever have to read bout this book
Review: When I was first thinking about purchasing this book, I read all customer reviews in an attempt to get an idea of if I was going to like this book, and if it was worth reading. I saw 5's, adn then I saw 2's, and everything in between. It seemed that people either loved this book, or hated it.

This book was not engaging, it dragged on and really didn't arrive at much after 800 + pages. The story line was unique, but the author got bogged down in detail and his own intricate plot twists and seemed to lose the thread of the story altogether at times.

This book was not horrible though, it had some merrit to it. The idea the book was predicated on was interesting, and i seriously considered reading the rest of the books, just to see where the author was going with this idea. But when I saw the next 2 books were in the same 800+_ page format, I decided my time was best spent elsewhere.

I am sure you are wondering, and asking me to answer your question that probably prompted you to read this review in the first place: should you read this book.

No. I don't think this book is worth your time, unless you read really fast and could finish it in a day or 2. (This was hte only reason I stuck with it, if I had had to spend more than a week or 2 on this book, I wouldn't have read it) There are so many good books out there that are begging to be read, that reading this would be a waste of your time. The book was just not worth it.

Summary: How on Earth can something this boring be so intriguing?
Review: I had no expectations about "Otherland". A friend lent me the book, saying there was no hurry to return it. So it sat on my shelf for days and days.

I finally got around to opening it and was less than impressed at first. The story took too long to develop and once it did, went no where. The writing is as bloated as a corpse that has washed up on the shores of the river of blue fire. Because the writing is episodic, taking the point of view of different characters, I was sometimes compelled, sometimes not, depending upon my opinion of the hero of that chapter.

It was an odd experience, then, reading this book. I would race through one chapter, anxious to learn more about the lead character, then turn the page and be so bored I could hardly pick the book up again.

I finally made it through and was compelled enough to pick up the next one. But I think the story could easily have been told in one book.

Summary: A life of its own
Review: I don't want to give away too much, because like others I read the reviews to figure out if I want to buy the book, NOT to have the story given away in a paragraph.

I picked this book up because it sounded interesting, then set it on the coffee table while I finished another book. Each day I looked at it sitting there I wanted to read it more. By the time I picked it up and started it I felt almost driven. The writing is so good! Even when I thought I might get bored, Williams picks up a new thread and keeps me interested. This is my first exposure to Tad Williams, it will certainly not be the last.

He has built an incredible world, and by all accounts quite realistic given our current rate of technological growth. This book is both fantasy sci-fi and cyberpunk wrapped into a wonderful package. Yes it's long, and it's worth every minute.

Summary: Seems long, but flies by
Review: Last summer, I bought this book in late May, intending to read it over the entire course of the summer after school let out. Bored the next day, I began the first chapter in the early morning.

Two days later, I had finished the book.

I've always been a big fantasy fan, but I've never read anything of Tad Williams' before this--I began the Dragonsbone Chair last year, but I had a new Mercedes Lackey book to work on and never got around to finishing it. This series so far is amazing. Having read this book and River of Blue Ice, I can say that the characters are well-crafted, the plot is exhilarating, and the writing is amazing. I especially love the character of Thangor--he's a nice touch, and after I had the book finished, I'd skip back the chapters involving him and just reread them.

This book is definitely worth as long as it takes for you to finish it.

Summary: A wonderful work of science fiction
Review: This book contains an interesting plot concerning society in the future. The internet plays a large role in society, to the extent to where it's a virtual reality-type setting. After Reni's brother becomes victim to a coma (presumably as result of a huge internet conspiracy) Reni, with the help of her bushman friend !Xabbu, set off to find out who has caused her brother to fall into a coma. This is a wonderful work of sci-fi, which I would recomend to anyone. The book seems long, but if you're an avid reader, you won't be able to put it down. The only downfall of this book is that it abruptly ends, so you have to immeadiately have to run out to buy the second one to find out who the internet conspirators are, and why they are putting children into comas over the internet.

Summary: an extremely complex, yet excellent Book!
Review: This book was recommended to me by a number of people, and I thought that I oughtta at least check it out. So I did. I started out knowing almost nothing about the book, and when I read the back, I got sort of an idea, and it sounded quite interesting. Anyways, when I started reading it, I noticed that it truly is a masterpiece! It's about a virtual-reality world called "OtherLand". It seems so real, that sometimes people even die from it, because they forget to go out into the real world and feed themselves. It turns out that a lot of people have to go to otherland to find the answers to the world. There are many characters that seem real, and Tad Williams' language is superb. He explains everything so well! This is an excellent first book in an epic about virtual-reality. Some of the best sci-fi I've ever read. Although this book can get vastly complex at times, that's what makes it so interesting.

Summary: Williams is a masterwriter...
Review: Wow. This book (and series) is definately just as good as, if not better than, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. I first picked up on Tad Williams while I was waiting for a WoT sequel and was amazed at how well written and imaginatively created this story was. It's a bit more science fiction than most fantasy books and expands on the internet world that we know today into something incredible. Then Williams creates world within that world. The characters are exquisitely developed. A must read for all book lovers!

Summary: solid entertainment
Review: A good read. Keep in mind it wont conclude at the end and you wont be too disappointed. Its the first true blend of hard sci-fi and fantasy I've seen. It will keep your interest and it will reward you for sticking it out through a few slow chapters. Enjoy.
