Summary: The way fantasy should be written
Review: As a long time fantasy aficianado I was surprised at this delightful debut. It has a sophistication of prose and character that is seldom seen in the genre today. I buy almost all fantasy series in hardcover, but have stop collecting a few--Runelords, Sword of Truth--except in paperback. This one is such a beautifully designed book that it would be a shame to miss the map and the quality of the artwork. The crispness of the descriptive text is wonderful, especially the Furbolg spring cleaning battle scene, which harks back to Tolkien's scenes in Mordor. I for one am happy to see a heroine with powers she doesn't feel comfortable with, since I am sick of the Xena Warrior princess types of Honor Harringtom and the whiney Kahlans of the fantasy world. This has been my favourite book in many years, and it is deservedly praised.

Summary: Entertaining
Review: I found this book to be interesting but it does not deserve the over-abundance of praise it has gotten. Like other readers I found the main character of Rhapsody to become quite sickening. She is dense beyond belief and it was extremely annoying that she is so irresistible to every man who sees her. I almost didn't finish the book. But I loved the character of Achmed enough that I will probably read the next book but will get it from the library or wait till the paperback comes out. If you want to read something truly different that engages your mind as well as your heart I would recommend Marion Zimmer Bradley's Sword and Sorceress books instead.

Summary: A modern masterpiece
Review: This novel will undoubtedly take a place amoung the great fantasy novels for our time. Haydon has the gift that so many writers crave, the ability to draw you in, to keep you turning the pages while enjoying every minute of it. She has created a unique world, populated with several distinct races of beings, each with distinct physical attributes, languages, cultures, etc. Rhapsody accompanies Achmed and Grunthor through the earth and across time, an unwilling captive to their flight from the demonic being who is searching for them. She must then cope with her new situation. The emotions are all there, the loss, the despair, and the anger that would naturally accompany such a seperation from everyone and everything one knows. The story has many intertwined plots, each involving some aspect of either Rhapsody's loss or Achmed's demon or their subsequent adventures. Some of these plot lines are tied up, but there are several loose ends to be picked up by the sequel that I assume will follow. This book is original, engrossing and well-written, and I am glad to have a place for it on my shelf.

Review: I enjoyed this book almost more than any other I have ever read. I am hoping and waiting for a second.

Summary: Simply Irresistible
Review: This is by far the best fantasy I have read in many years. Unlike so many of the big series that seem to be duplicating each other, RHAPSODY is new and fresh, approachable to anyone, including people who don't read fantasy regularly. Everyone I know has read it, and everyone who read it loved it.

The characters in RHAPSODY are wonderfully drawn and multi faceted. The language flows like poetry in some places, and is harsh and clear in others. It's a lot like listening to a musical piece with many different moods. Bravo! Kudos to the author, and I can't wait for the sequel.

Summary: A wonderful new voice in an incredible genre
Review: Within the first chapter the author held my heart gripped tight in her hands. She has yet to release it, this epic fantasy will infiltrate your psyche through each and every page but will not leave you with closure. I hope the sequel comes out soon; I cannot wait to see how this world will continue to unfold.

Review: I haven't even finished this book yet and I wanted to write a review about it.

This book is excellent. The story, while based upon old legends, is fresh and new with characters and ideas that capture you from the start.

I look forward to finishing this book and hope there will be more like it to come.
