Summary: New Author for my collection
Review: After reading many new books in this market that I have found to be boring and/or repititious, I picked up this title because of the reviews in the front. What A great choice I made!!! This is one of the best books by far that I have read lately, and I am eagerly awaiting the forth-coming volumes. Her characters come alive, to the point that you feel that they are real and that you know them personally, and the story-line was magnificent. This was a hard book to put down!! I will definetly go out and purchase other titles by this author.

The Bone Doll's Twin is a book that I will read over and over again, and I rate it up there with my beloved Raymond Feist, (The Magician series), David Eddings (All books regarding Belgarath and Polgara), and Stephen R. Donaldson novels (The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant)!!!!!!!!!

Summary: we're not worthy!!
Review: (review of the british edition):
as a huge fan of lynn flewelling's work i have had this book on pre-order ever since i found out it would be available in the uk 3 months earlier than in the us. since the book arrived on monday, i've spent 3 sleepless nights staying up to finish reading it. i was totally blown away. i had thought that i'd be kind of disappointed and missing alec/seregil (for non-initiates, the heroes of lynn's previous 3 books) and their world. wrong!!! i wouldn't have believed it, but i think she's actually topped the first three books as well as introducing an entirely new world, somewhat linked to that of the first series of books, but totally fresh and i think even more intriguing. i don't want to spoil any plot details, but the work the author is doing with gender representation and roles is just absolutely fascinating. my only question now is, when do we get the next book? and for those fortunate souls who haven't read lynn's books before: get this one, read it, then run out and get the other three! also, i'd like to note that this [british version] of the book is a beautiful object in itself with gorgeous cover art, high-quality paper, and well-set type with plenty of "white-space." how often do you see that in the fantasy/scifi genres?

Summary: Fantastic! (And There's More To Come)
Review: After discovering Lynn Flewelling's books last year, I was prepared for an exciting adventure in Bone Doll's Twin. Boy, was I wrong! I didn't get an adventure ... I got fantasy, mystery, horror, tragedy, and little snippets of humor. You want an angry ghost? Got one right here. Warped twisted bindings and death magic? Yep, that too. I wasn't disappointed by Lynn's latest book; I was absolutely amazed at the richness of her characters and her world.

The first book in a new trilogy, Bone Doll's Twin explores timeless topics, such as: do two wrongs make a right; does the good of the many outweigh the good of the few; can evil truly be fought with more evil, without making the outcome evil as well? Here, Lynn delves into the shades of grey that exist in life, especially in relation to complex and life-altering decisions.

Tobin has got to be one of the most haunting characters that I've ever encountered in my years of reading fantasy, and his friendship with Ki was one of the most moving parts of the story. After losing so much in his short life and under such horrifying circumstances, Tobin craves normal things, like a good friend who isn't scared of an angry ghost.

Something like this has (most likely) been done before, but Lynn has added her own unique twists and turns. I was so enthralled with the story that I was practically on the edge of my seat as the book got closer and closer to the cliffhanger ending.

I can say, without reservation, that this is one of the best fantasy novels that I've read in years. Bone Doll's Twin exceeded all of my expectations, and I'm eagerly awaiting Book 2.

Summary: Flewelling does it again!
Review: Lynn Flewelling, author of the excellent Nightrunner series, has another great book in Bone Doll's Twin. Mystery, magic, and intrigue are well blended in this haunting thriller. A must for any fantasy fan. Also, don't forget to pick up Luck in the Shadows, Stalking Darkness, and Traitor's Moon!

Summary: "Bone Doll" is Bone-Chilling!
Review: ...but deliciously so! Lynn, you genius, you've done it again: just when I was convinced that the fantasy genre had nothing new to offer, you set the whole thing on its ear. This was one of the most delightful reads I've had in a loooooong time! Clear writing, believable and continuously developing characters, and a premise that will leave you reeling... this book has it all.

Fair warning to those in search of a light romp: you won't find it here. This is NOT "Stalking Darkness". This is a moody, suspenseful, often disturbing story, on par with Edgar Allen Poe. For the first two chapters, I wasn't sure if Lynn was divinely inspired or taking strong meds. But after chapter two, I didn't care! I was sucked in so deeply that I heard the creak of the floorboards (ooohhh...), the rustle of skirts down the unlit hall (gasp!), felt the chill, ghostly breath on the back of my neck (shriek!!!)... okay, you get the idea. For those of us with highly vivid imaginations, this book sparkles. An ideal read for All Hallow's Eve.

In addition to the sheer entertainment value of the story, it raises some very deep questions, primarily: Do the ends always justify the means? Toss aside all your preconceptions at the door, 'cause none of the characters is entirely what s/he seems. No one wears a white or black hat... this book is all about shades of grey. You're shocked to discover the depths to which the "good guys" will plunge in order to secure a future for their world. And you're surprised by the likeability of some of the "bad guys".

I can't recommend "Bone Doll" highly enough! Clear your calendar for the next few days so you can completely immerse yourself in this engrossing, thought-provoking, delightfully eerie book!

Summary: Flewelling's best yet
Review: This is fantasy for grownups.Flewelling's books are peopled by adults who act like adults, and children who are still children. No precocious princesses here. Flewelling's world building is second to none, and she fills her books with details that pull you in and keep you, even when you don't have her books under your nose.
Prince Tobin is a child with a frightening future. What will it make of him? What will it do to those around him,and to his world? Just as important are the people around him, strongly written, and as complicated as people really are. Nothing is truly black or white in this one.

The Nightrunner series is great swashbuckling fun in the first two books, and thought provoking political fantasy for the last. I didn't think they could be topped, but The Bone Doll's Twin does it for me.

Summary: These characters ... are lacking
Review: I wish I'd read the story summary before I bought this one. I guess I was expecting more of what I'd come to expect from Ms. Flewelling - adventure, wit, charm, character chemistry, caring, however I was treated to more of what seems to be a trend in Fantasy fiction these past few years. Well, at least it wasn't sporting a ghastly cover featuring some well built heroine brandishing a sword. Nope. Instead we have a nice looking, outwardly appearing *guy* - who's actually a *guurrrrl!* :(
So I'm a male bonding kinda gal <shrugs>..I prefer to read novels, Fantasy or otherwise, with fun, charming, caring men instead of this cop out. I, too, am hoping that Ms. Flewelling has more adventures of Alec and Seregil in mind for future novels. Now those two are the best fictional characters to come along in many years...in any genre.

Summary: Wow!
Review: Read this superb and unique new fantasy novel --
you won't regret it! Lynn Flewelling's three
previous novels are fun yarns, but this one is
in a whole different class. The only problem
with it is that it leaves you craving for the
next book in the series, which unfortunately has
yet to be written...

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I guess the novel was well written but I can't help feeling somewhat disappointed. I loved Lynn's three previous novels and have read them so many times I could quote chapter and verse. What I loved about those stories was the beautiful relationship between Seregil and Alec, their comraderie and wit, the dangers and trials and triumphs and eventual love. I've searched for years for novels featuring a male friendship and I miss that dynamic in this latest story by Lynn. Stories of truly wonderful male friendships are difficult to find in any genre but I hit the mother lode with "Luck in the Shadows", "Stalking Darkness" and "Traitor's Moon." As I said, the book was well written for what it was, but I couldn't empathize with the characters.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the further adventures of Seregil and Alec. Please Lynn!!

Summary: A Byzantine epic fantasy
Review: I had already been a fan of Lynn Flewelling's _Nightrunner_ series, which was the main reason I picked up this book --the British version, it was out earlier and I couldn't wait.

Now, I can see how much the author has grown since her previous series came out. This novel is full of fascinating characters, intricate and interweaving plots, and sudden sneaky surprises. It is a difficult book to read, not in readability terms but in that it really makes you think about what is going on.

This book is not for the faint-hearted, as there are some themes that some will likely find uncomfortable. However, if you want to read something different and challenging, this is your book.
