Summary: Dark, indepth, a great read
Review: This is overall a great book. This is the first time I have read one of Flewelling's books, and I was hooked from the beginning of "The Bone Doll's Twin". Even the title is interesting. It is up there with James Clemens series, that starts with "Witch Fire". I like the dark plot, the complex nature of Tobin's allies, and family. I do appreciate the natural goodness of Tobin but I hope her adult self will be more proactive. I think Brother needs to get more evil also.

Summary: I CAN'T WAIT TILL BOOK 2 COMES OUT!
Review: Oh geez, I just finished The Bone Doll's Twin and was left suspended in thin air after reading the last page. I wanted to cry! Oh, how on earth could I just be left there not knowing what was going to be next down the road with all these twists and turns that had occurred within each of the chapters before hand?

I eagerly await the day till the second book comes out! Only till March of 2003.... oh my, I don't think I can wait that long! I can't imagine what the second book will be like compared to this, but I bet it will keep me at the edge of my chair the whole time like this one had. There was so much emotion; from joy to tears to adventure to magic to ghosts and royalty to knights and so on and so forth... And the author did a terrific job of making you feel for each and every one of the characters involved... This book just gets you so involved with it that you won't be able to put it down until you've finished...

Summary: Page Turner!
Review: Amazingly engrossing. I couldn't put it down and when I got to the end and noticed that things weren't wrapping up I realized I had just read book one of a series that's not completed yet. AHHHHHHHH!

Get it, read it...but be prepared to be upset that the next one isn't out yet.

Summary: Wonderful Book
Review: Well, I just finished The Bone Doll's Twin. When I discovered that this book took place generations before The Nightrunner series, I was a little upset. I loved the characters Serigil and Alec from those books and wanted to hear more of their adventures. I must say that this book certainly exceeded my expectations and was incredibly entertaining. I like it as much or more than The Nightrunner series and look forward to the next installment. You should definitely check it out.

Summary: disturbing
Review: I started reading this one at night and had to keep going for a long time -- all through the beginning, I was afraid that if I stopped I'd have nightmares!

It's wonderful, just like all of Ms. Flewelling's books, but this one is much more on the dark side.

Summary: the power of fate
Review: Fate has an important role in this story about the first years of a future hero --who is, in fact, a heroine-- and the ever-present ghost of his twin brother. We see the life of Tobin from the beginning until he (she) realizes who he (she) really is. The tension is built to have its climax in the moment of final discovery, where the novel ends. Even though we witness the secret event and know the truth from the beginning, the author manages to have us thrilled and turning pages at a fast pace to learn HOW what-we-know is going to happen. I also loved the no-nonsense use of magic, always logical and justified, and the role that the "old religion", the Goddess religion which has almost disappeared, has in the story. There is also love, fear, friendship, loyalty and adventure. I simply loved this novel and will read everything that I find by the same author.

Summary: Scary, in a thoughtful way
Review: I'm still reading this book, but I can't seem to put it down. It practically jumped into my arms and cried "read me!" While I've been disillusioned by SF/Fantasy lately, this book's helping me restore my faith. A good read if you're a quick reader!

Summary: Hot Book, a Must Read for those who like a twist of fates
Review: This book is one of the best books I've ever read! I picked it up in the Hawley-Cooke bookstore and had to have it!!!! I loved it! I'm still waiting for the next book. If I didn't love books so much, I would have just skipped over it. If you can live through the first few chapters, it's an awesome book. If I'd had the choice, I'd've given it a 10/10! YOU MUST READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Dying for Tamir Book #2
Review: I liked the Nightrunner series. When this first came out I didn't want to read it because I didn't think it would be any good. But seeing it in the library, I decided to give it a shot. It was incredible, surpassing the Nightrunner series by tenfold. Now I'm dying for the next book to see what happens next. I won't give away any detail because it's a book you'd want to savor.

Summary: Another wonderful book from Flewelling...
Review: Having read Flewelling's other three books in the "Nightrunner" series, I snapped up "Bone Doll's Twin" with a little bit of frustration: it was a prequel. I wanted more from Alec and Seregil, not new characters, so I resisted for a while before settling down to read this book.

I'm glad I waited, because now I'm salivating over the next in the trilogy.

The story is actually rather straightforward, and one we know quite a bit about already as "history" in the Nightrunner series. There was a mad king who killed off all his female relatives, so that the ancient prophecy of a Queen on the throne could not come to pass: even though the prophecies were clear: the kingdom wouldn't prosper without a Queen on the throne.

Enter the heroes. When twins are born to a royal bloodline, one a girl, and one a boy, the heroes kill - yes, kill - the baby boy and wrap the baby girl up in an illusion of being male that will last long enough to keep the girl alive to the point of taking the throne. Alas, the girl herself doesn't even know what's going on - she believes she's a boy named Tobin, and the dead brother is a haunting demon-spirit, rather upset at being murdered in such a way...

The empathy and pathos of this story was remarkable. The heroes had to get their hands dirty from step one - and it's still coming - and you can't help but be drawn into their plight as they do truly evil things for the greater good. Likewise, poor Tobin is living a lie throughout the book - and you can keenly feel his sense of not being "quite right," and his desire for a normal life with a good friend.

Where this series is going seems likely to be even darker, and the characters all seem to hover in a fragile state: you get the impression that many of these folks are going to die a nasty death. It's truly captivating. Fans of James Clemens or George R.R. Martin should definitely give this series a shot.

'Nathan
