Rating: Summary: This is one of the best. Review: I think that Vector Prime is one of the better of the Star Wars novels. It gets the feel of the characters, and Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin actually fit into the story. Also, it's refreshing to have a storyline other then New Republic is threatened by Newly Discovered Imperial Leader. It gets old after awhile. Another thing I liked was the Yuzhan Vong's(sp?) weapons. It fits their warrior culture perfectly. All in all it's not the best sw novel, but it ranks up their in the top 5.
Rating: Summary: New and fresh, but sour to me. Review: Without giving too much away, I thought the book was very good except that something very bad happened during the course of the story. Unfortunately the end felt rushed, and you should never rush a good Star Wars book.
Rating: Summary: The Continuing Saga... Review: In the recent SW novels "I, Jedi" and Zahn's "The Hand of Thrawn" duology there seems to be an effort to get a consistent philosophy for the Jedi. Salvatore finishes this effort through Luke's decision whether of not to reestablish the Jedi Council and Anakin and Jacen's philosophical debates about a Jedi's role in the galaxy. There is also another reoccuring theme in recent SW novels and that is that the ineptness of the New Republic to govern itself efficiently. Isn't this how the Empire came to be? In Vector Prime this theme is illustrated by the novel's new enemies exploiting ethnic tensions among the Republic's members. This book is a worthy edition to the SW saga. The main characters were portrayed as they should be, especially Luke and Mara. The plot was interesting, but, as with many SW novels of late, the spaceflight battle scenes drag on with tedious details. The new threat to the New Republic is downright frightening. Overall, I would put this book in the top third of all SW novels.
Rating: Summary: Great storyline and entertaining Review: Even thought the storyline was good at times the way the sentences are worded it was hard to undestand. The introduction of the new alien race was very well done. An excellent addition to the Star Wars history.
Rating: Summary: This is not your father's Star Wars. Review: Forget everything you knew about Star Wars. This start of the New Jedi Order story arc is going to shake up the Star Wars Universe forever. I had high hopes for this book and I was not disappointed. It was exactly as I thought it would be. The chracterisation was great, everything that was established in the Star Wars Expanded Universe already was not ignored and many elements of past events were acknowleged. The only minor gripe I have is Anakin Solo's constant bratiness - it's quite obvious that he's going to grow up to be a Jedi villian and I think his parents pretty much chose his career when they named him. It would be nicer if it came as a surprise later on rather than us knowing it was coming.
Rating: Summary: Not the best, not the worst, but required reading... Review: The Good:Definitly liked the exit stage left of the Empire. That horse has been beaten to death, unfortunately. It would have been nice to save some of the super plots for later down the road. I liked the Solo kids. For those who didn't, this is the next generation, folks. Get used to it. The discussions on the possibilities of the roles of the Jedi were very well thought out. Not even Yoda got this much into it. The Bad:The overall feeling I got from this book was that it was rushed. Lando summons his Shieldships. Two pages later, they were there. That time period should have been used for more character developement. It was like watching a movie with the speed setting on the fritz. I totally agree with other readers on the disappointing lack of interaction between Luke and Mara. Last we knew, they decided to get married. Now they're acting like my 75 year old grandparents. The Ugly:(SPOILER!!!)The death of Chewbacca is much discussed here. I personally felt that the event was pointless but let me make one thing clear. This is George's story and it will remain that way until he decides to hand it off. If you think this book got published with out him reading it, think again. Myself, I would feel a little bit better if George pubically acknowledged the book but, as with all stories, the bard makes the rules. And no matter how ticked off you fans are, how many of you really think you'll pass on the next book? "Hmmm?", as Yoda would prompt. Let's face it, Star Wars is a drug and Salvatore's just the latest dealer. May the next one deliver purer product.
Rating: Summary: Ridiculous and unforgiveable Review: What a load of cobblers. When filming 'Jedi' it was considered having Lando killed for dramatic impact. Lucas, however, rejected the idea with the very simple notion that 'you don't kill people. It isn't nice!'. While there have been QUITE a bit of terrible entries in the former line of SW novels, at least the physical (if not the emotional or psychological) make-up of the main characters was maintained. Now we've lost even that! In my opinion, this has nothing to do with the fairy tale Lucas has created. It's gone dark and twisted, VERY unlike the original concept, and I mourn the loss. There's far too much darkness out there as it is. While I frown upon 'easy' plot devices like cloning facilities and impossible escapes (we've seen far too many in recent years: Boba Fett, The Emperor, Ysanne Isard...) I hope the next book will employ just such a Deus Ex Machina, or I for one will consider the SW timeline closed with Zahn's Vision Of The Future. The plot? Oh yeah, there's evil aliens wanting to take over the galaxy. How grand. How epic. How original. *yawn* Tip: Check out Dark Horse's SW comics series for some fresh, well-considered and very atmospheric takes on SW!
Rating: Summary: The Force is with Salvatore but hes not a Jedi yet... Review: Ok...This book is cool. There is a great story line, the Phantom Menace(lol) of the Praetorite Vong and at last,a good vision of many characters...I like particularly the way Salvatore writes the Solo children:There are no longer the *overprotected-babies-Solo* they have been and its good thing to see them acting like adults....The Evil in this book is not,and its changed, the Empire. Its a terrible plague, with disgusting characters and...I wont say more...See by yourself how the Praetorite Vong can be... BUT BUT BUT:There are things I cant like. And I wont like if Michael Stackpole chooses to follow the same way for the next books...First,I dont agree with the fact that Mara is ill.I think its too easy to make her being like a weak person, with her battle with the disease.Shes strong, she has always been and we havent seen the Luke/Mara relation enough for the authors to make her dying...And its another thing I dont like:Where is this tense relation between this great Jedi Master and the ex-Emperor Hand?Where is the passion all the fans have always wanted to see between them?Uh...I think Salvatore has forgotten that point... And there is the last thing, and not the small thing...He has made it...He has done something the fans are not going to appreciate...But in some way it had to be done(in my opinion...).Some of you(Big fans I mean...)are going to cry... Conclusion:the book is one of the best SW book...But not the best...!Enjoy your reading...
Rating: Summary: A bold new direction Review: It took me less than 24hrs to rip through this great story. With powerful strides R.A. takes us 21yrs past the Battle of Endor and shows us the wanning (in some respects)of the old Heros of the Republic and the rising stars of the New Heros of the Jedi. The books bites off a huge amount of information and presents it in a moving tale of adventure, philosophy, companionship, and loss. This was the kind of book that I wish G.L. would use for the 7-9th movies that will never be made. Two Thumbs Up...
Rating: Summary: This book is great......with one leeetle exception Review: This is one of the best books ever written! But it could use a little more interaction between Luke and Mara. The only interaction that I noticed was Luke rubbing her neck and shoulders. I hope that they have more in the next book. In previous books Jacen was always telling jokes and Jaina was more technical. What happened to that?! Also, what happened to Tenel Ka and Lowie??? There was absolutely NO mention of them. I didn't like IT and I could think of several ways for this to be reversed. The Praetorite Vong's biological weapons were nice and no more Admiral whathisname of the week. I have been waiting for this book for several months and I am glad that it is finally out. I would of REALLY liked it if he had detailed their trip into the Unknown Space. And I liked the timeline and map alot. Enough said, your turn to read the book.
