Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Addition To The Star Wars Library Review: I was very skeptical about buying this book. I thought I'd try waiting for the paperback..but as a long-time Star Wars fan who's read everything else in print, I couldn't help myself. I wasn't dissappointed on the whole. It was more sophisticated than some of the other novels have been, which is a welcomed change. I loved the discussions about the role of the Jedi, now that thier numbers are increasing. Luke came off a bit wooden for me, though. Lots of action, some new faces. Also, It's good to see Leia finally step down;it's unrealistic to have her president for so long (this IS a democracy, isn't it?) Unfortunately, it seems that she is still the only being in this entire galaxy who can govern worth a hoot. It's too bad the New Republic has so little talent other than our Heros. Anyway, it was a fun read, and that's what it's all about anyway, isn't it? Looking forward to the next one...
Rating: Summary: I thought this was a good novel Review: I thought that this novel was well thought out and very interesting. It was good to see the New Republic being threatened by something other than the remnants of the empire. It was a shame that Chewbacca had to die but I am glad that it happened. I am looking forward to the rest of the story and I am sure it will get better.
Rating: Summary: Acceptable, but...a tad juvenile? Review: I'm sorry to say that after devouring one Timothy Zahn book after another, nothing else seems to measure up. It has almost ruined the rest of the SW series for me. Complaint #1: Characterization. I saw several juvenile, one-dimensional cliches used on old favorites time and time again, and that bugged me. Especially after Zahn and others have worked so hard to add depth and dimension to the aforesaid characters. Also, the writing style reminded me of stuff I used to write in the eigth grade. The word choices and sentence constructions are kept strictly simple and almost juvenile. I don't deny that this writing style can be effective when used in measured doses, but...350+ pages of it started to make me wonder if this guy took college English. My one thought on Chewbacca's death: I don't agree at all with those who claim it was done strictly for shock value. I, for one, was wondering when this holy light of protection would stop saturating all of the main characters. Just try to count up the number of times there have been near-misses and death-defying feats. After 21 years and a major battle practically every other week (or so it seems), it was way past time for some character or another to succumb to the inevitable. I'm not happy about it, but I understand the necessity of it in order to keep realism as a major factor in SW writing. On the whole, it was brain-candy - one of those things you read late at night when you can't concentrate.
Rating: Summary: Prepare yourselves for some SARCASM!! Review: It may take a while for me to finish whining about this book. I hate the fact that one of the major character's dies, but that is not even my biggest beef about this. Mara Jade is NOT a sniffling, whiny, upset character!!! When are you people going to realize this??? FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, PEOPLE!!! Next, I disapprove of the entire idea of Mara having a "fatal illness", that is such a bunch of crap. We'd tell you if we wanted to kill off Luke's wife, ok? (poor kid, it took them like 17 years to marry him off successfully and then what do they do? They make his wife "fatally ill". What the hell is their problem???) Personally I already have a prediction for the end of the sub-series but I will keep that to myself because every Star Warrior knows it anyway. I agree with one other reviewer, though: maybe Zahn SHOULD write all the novels!!! And we cannot deal with cliffhanger endings. Someone should realize that it is cruel to keep Star Warriors in suspense like that. And what about Tenel Ka, Zekk, Tahiri, Corran Horn, Wedge Antilles, Iella Wessiri... Come on, at least use some different characters. Despite all my complaints however, Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin were written well, and I liked the introduction of Danni Quee. The book itself was a bit too dark and foreboding for my tastes, though (akin to "The Empire Strikes Back" only with MORE death). One more thing: What's the next one called and when's it coming out????
Rating: Summary: An R rated story in a PG rated universe Review: Reading this book reminded me of another Star Wars book, The Truce At Bakura. I was shocked that Lucas let such a violent and gruesome book be published as a Star Wars title. I am equally if not more so shocked with R. A. Salvatore's story. The book is very well written and Mr Salvatore has definitely done his Star Wars Universe homework, but it's too violent and graphically gruesome a story and I dont' feel such stories have a place in the Star Wars universe. Just my opinion.
Rating: Summary: Not Zahn, but not bad Review: Vector Prime is not a bad book - the story is clever, the bad guys are pretty cool, and the action scenes are, for the most part, interesting. My main problem with the whole story is that I find the whole Jedi kid thing really boring. I'v never been a fan of Anakin, Jacen, or Jaina, and though I am a big fan of Salvatore, I don't see why he felt pressured to use them so much. Personally, after reading the 5 Zahn books, I just can't see Star Wars novels without Talon Karrde - though I'm almost skeptical about giving him over to another author...maybe Zahn should write all the novels.... Otherwise though, the book is sound. If you like the kids and a basically all-Jedi cast (save for poor Han and Lando), you'll probably really enjoy the story.
Rating: Summary: Masterpiece Review: The best star wars book ever written . ten times better than any of Zahn's novels .Second only to the movies themselves .You must get this book!
Rating: Summary: Super! Review: Rollicking action and adventure--i read war novels and sci-fi and recommend Vector Prime along with The Triumph and Glory and the new Foundation Trilogy as MUST reading for anyone with the same interests. Live long and prosper and may the force be with you.
Rating: Summary: Creative. Well Written. Review: I've read virtually every SW novel, and this is certainly one of the better ones. Salvatore is a skilled writer (unlike some of the other SW authors), who wrote a story that was interesting, and featured an alien race that I found to be a product of great creativity and imagination. I hope that the future books in this New Jedi Order are as good as this.
Rating: Summary: The latest Star Wars book to date. Review: This is the latest book in the Star Wars series. And if the quality of the first book in The New Jedi Order is any indication of the future books, this will be the best series of Star Wars books since Timothy Zahn and the Thrawn Trilogy. If you are a die hard Star wars fan there is no disapionment here.
