Rating: Summary: Vector Prime Review: I felt the book was interesting in the way she was trying to bring a new chapter to life for Star Wars. I did not like that she killed Chewie off he will be missed. Also, with Luke being a Jedi Master he should have felt Chewie's death. The only thing that makes sense is maybe he is not dead and in some future chapter of Prime we will find him a prisoner. (which is what I personally hope happens).
Rating: Summary: SPOILERS IN HERE! Review: okay, this book was great, except for a few things. The saddest incident was when Chewbacca died. I cried, and i never cry at movies or books. oh yeah, and there were a little too many Nom Anor parts... and i'm totally with Jacen here. Luke should NOT bring back the Jedi Council. And who appointed Borsk Fey'lya as Chief of State?
Rating: Summary: Not quite there... yet Review: Good and weak stuff. Yes, he did open up some interesting venues, though the material has been seen somewhere else. But still, it's good. I loved the rivalry between Anakin and Jacen as well the discussions about the Force. Now for the dislikes, where to start.... Ah yes! The mysterious illness, which could be cured in so many ways (Jedi Cighal, for one). And of course, the death of our beloved.... The fact that, so many details of previous books were not taken into consideration. I'm sorry but Lando, is not that scientifically inclined! Luke being Jedi Master, should have been much more sensitive to whatever was and is going around him! And for a guy in love, it doesn't show very much, not so much as a smooch! And please tell me where are all the others.... There's an invasion of this proportion and Ta Chume doesn't know about it? Please get real! And what about the Rogue squadron, where are they? The other friends, Iella Wesiri, Coran Horn, Mirax and her father, Lowbaca, Tenel Ka and her family, Zekk, Tahiri and Ikrit to name a few! I'm running out of breath. All I can say is, good start, but you, Mr Salvatore, are no Jedi. You should have kept the facts list they gave you. Maybe then, our beloved friends would have felt much more alive.
Rating: Summary: This book isn't Star Wars-quality material Review: I've read every other SW hardcover and I found the writing style of this one bordering on annoying. There were too many occasions of jumping from one scene to another for no particular reason that I could discern. This is one of those books that I had to "hurry up and finish" not because I liked it, but because I didn't want to think I wasted my money.
Rating: Summary: Not bad, dare I say even. . . good Review: Well, I must say this book exceeded my expectations, though that doesn't really mean much since I wasn't expecting much. I'd read some of Salvatore's previous work, though not I am told his best, and I wasn't very impressed. I found his whole style of writing was rather juvenile and the only reason I read this book at all was because I wanted to know what was happening when Stackpole came out with the next one. Actually, I really enjoyed this book. Salvatore did a wonderful job especially with the characters of Luke, Leia, Han and even Jacen, Jaina and Anikan. In previous books I had been rather dissatisfied with how these characters were portrayed, but, as I said, Salvatore did and excellent job. The plot was moderately inventive and rather interesting, even if there were a few too many coincidences. The main characters always seem to be in the right place at the right time, or the wrong place at the wrong time I guess, depending on how you look at it and, of course, everything turned out alright in the end. Ok, the book wasn't perfect, and I haven't read one that is, but as far as it goes I can at least say it was well worth my time and effort.
Rating: Summary: Gripping plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat Review: I just read several of the reviews and I must say that I am very disappointed. Several people have said that the virus that was given to Mara should be easily curable by the Force, and if she can't heal herself, then Luke should be able to heal her since he is a Jedi Master. Everyone is forgetting Obi-Wan Kenobi's explanation of the Force to Luke in Episode 4 in which he states that "The Force is an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us...it binds the galaxy together." If the Force binds the galaxy togerther, doesn't it stand to reason that anything outside the galaxy would be impervious to the Force. This, I believe, is Salvatore's thinking, and he is correct. This is why the Jedi are not able to sense the aliens. The aliens are not from the SW galaxy, and the Force is not in them. Also, the death of one of the main characters was inevitable, and I can only hope that Salvatore does not resurrect him in the next book.
Rating: Summary: Interesting Twists Review: Some interesting twists and changes the characters go through. Chewbacca's death was well handled and logical. That doesn't mean I like it. The dialogue seemed a bit stilted, and some stuff was brought in too quickly (Mara's illness, Kyp's Squadron). The villans seemed interesting enough, what with their organic technology. Anyone who has followed sci-fi/fantasy for the last 18 years, you can see that this is not an entirely new thing. Babylon 5 have the Shadows. Star Trek: Voyager had that species from a parallel dimension. But before all these, G.I. Joe the Movie had the Inhabitants of Cobra-La. Look it up in video, and like Indie Jones says; "Trust me"ΓΏ
Rating: Summary: If it wasn't star wars, I woulda rated it lower Review: You know that aything star wars will be amazing, and any book Lucas gives the ok will be captivating, but this guy got the feel all wrong. I'm personally sick of everyone trying to make their mark in the star wars universe. It's perverse. Luke marrying Mara, and charrecters dying and becoming sick and what not. Messing with the very fibers that amke up the force. There is little or no charrecter development in this book, but luckily Salvatore did open some pretty intresting doors, and shut some that I will miss incrediably. Star Wars got stagnant, and I guess this is the juice they need, but expect no mirracles, fellow fans... we'll have to wait for Kevin J Anderson to get back into the grove before we see any real motion in this galaxy far far away.
Rating: Summary: Where was Luke's sense in the force? Review: I was very disappointed in this latest Star Wars Novel. I found most of it hard to believe. The characters have lost their creativity. Even the death of Chewie was not believable. After his supposibly death even Luke did not "feel" the lack of his presence. I find that hard to believe given the fact that he is THE JEDI MASTER.
Rating: Summary: You spoiled it! Review: For all those who revealed that Chewie dies, You are really selfish! Thanks for spoiling it for those who haven't read it!
