Rating: Summary: The Promising Future of The Jedi Review: I closed the cover of Vector Prime at noon today, less than twenty-four hours after I borrowed it from the library, ecstatic over how superb I thought it was. The last few Star Wars novels I have read have made me glad that I just borrowed them from the library instead of buying them at the store (I won't name which ones-that would be rude). While its true that this book does stir the mix up in the Star Wars universe a bit, what with extragalactic aliens and the death of ....(sad to say, I was in tears), you have to think that after all these years and all the other stories out there it must get hard to find new ground to tread on. I feel that R.A. Salvatore has succeded admirably. I especially enjoyed the development of Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin- so much of the future of other novels rests on them as well as with our old favorites. Like Han comes to see at the end of the book, the universe feels a great deal more dangerous now. In my opinion, this book is only the beginning of a great future for the Jedi and the New Republic. In closing, I'd like to give Vector Prime and R.A. Salvatore my highest show of praise, I plan to check out as many of his other books as I can find.
Rating: Summary: A good change for Star Wars. Review: I really like this Star Wars book. Talking to other people who read this book most if not all of the people who have read this book giave it a bad rating for one reason. Those of you who have read the book know what I was talking about. Well as unfortunate as it is I think this even was almost needed in the Star Wars Universe. I used to read aevery Star Wars book when it came out, but as time progressed (and I got older) the books seemed to get worse and worse. They got so bad after a point that I stoped reading them. When I was looking through the libary I picked up Vector Prime and despite the prevous hostory of Star Wars books I decided to read.As I read the book it started out as any other Star Wars book with a dangrous race (weapon, Dark Jedi, fill in the blank here) trying to take over the galaxy. As I read the book I was kept interested by everything that was going on and just then out of nowhere something hapened that will shock everyone. It shocked me, but in almost a good way. I was now even more interested because I I no longer knew the outcome. (Like in other books the New Republic, always "wins") In this book though they "win" but at a great cost that actualy effects the reader unlike in other books where the cost is a bunh of people who when it comes down to it you could care less about. I recomend this book to any Star Wars fan and I ask that when this "event" that I speak of comes in the book that you do not automaticly refute the book as some people put is "The worst book I have ever read"
Rating: Summary: Vector Prime Review: Of all of the Star Wars novels I have read, I must admit that this work by RA Salvatore was the most riveting and emotional of all of them. The author takes you through a rollercoaster ride of excitement to battle to profound saddness. At one point, I had to put the book down and remind myself that this is in fact just a novel. Truly this is a work that no Star Wars loving fan should miss
Rating: Summary: Go back to writing about elves! Review: I am a huge Star Wars fan and I have read about 2/3rds of the books that have come out that have continued George Lucas's story. I must say that this is one of the worst that I have read. Salvatore completely changed the rules of the star wars universe. He used a lot of weapons from his fantasy novels and kept having his characters pull them out of nowhere and beat the jedi. The most rediculous of which was a snake that turned into a sword that a light saber couldn't cut through. The whole point of writing Star Wars books is that there are numerous weapons and people that readers are familiar with, and not to use it as a playground to mix in weapons an author had previously come up with. Another huge complaint I have is how the New Republic finally defeats the invasion from another galaxy. They reflect energy back at the planet to make it freeze, stop rotatating because it was approaching absolute zero, and then explode! That is the most unscientific and idiotic thing I have ever read in a science fiction book! Finally, the whole Chewie dying was so melodramatic I could hardly stand to read it. If all Salvatore can write about in the Star Wars universe is killing off main characters, rehashing his homemade weapons, and "insult your inteligence" ways of beating enemies, I hope he goesback to writing about his elves!
Rating: Summary: What Happened To The First 50 Reviews? Review: This book is uninspired trash that rips off other writers of SW, except for the characters, they don't resemble anything I've ever read. There were a lot of reviews in the beginning that brought the rating down, and miraculously disappeared. This book betrays everything that is SW. Probably George needed to create controversy to get SW back on people's mind so they would go see Phantom Menace. SHOW ME THE MONEY! Thanks George.
Rating: Summary: VERY controversed book Review: Well, I think that's the BEST starwars book since Thrawn's Trilogy. The novel is very controversial because of the appearance of aliens from outside the galaxy, the death of a main character and the fact that this new author in the Starwars' universe must compose with the courtship of Mara and Luke. I found he succeeded pretty well in it and I think that we should give a chance to Salvatore. If the same book as been written by Zahn, I'm sure everybody would have give a five star to this book but, only because a new author dared kill a character and try new things, a lot of people are denigrating it. All along the book, you really cannot predict the end because of the incredible amount of new things, strategies, technologies and because of the originality of the author. I'm glad to see new things in StarWars universe and only new blood could have brought it. The alien technologies made me breathless. Almost everything is new and I'm glad of the way Salvatore made Mara's mentality. He succeeded pretty well. If you find some differences between the Mara from Vision of the future's book and this one that's because of her serious illness. I bought the book and I finished it the same day. There is a lot of action since the first page and I give ALL my congratulations to the author who dared to make changes to the StarWars universe.
Rating: Summary: constructive criticsm Review: This book was pretty good, and it definately has a distinctive flavor that sets it apart from other previous Star Wars novels. I liked the new alien race, although I wish some more background information was provided on them. Still, I do have some criticsm on this book. 1) There are some parts that completely left me in the dark, such as Mara's disease. How and when did she acquire it? 2) Another thing is the rivalry between Jacen and Anakin. It seems as though all jacen ever does is preach and Anakin is close to following Vader's path. 3) Why was Borsk Fey'lya put in charge of the New Republic, out of all people? There have been plenty of beings mentioned in previous books that would be perfect, such as Ambassador Cilghal from the Jedi Academy trilogy. 4) Finally, the last thing is the event that seems to be in most people's minds. Chewbacca's death is just not in character with the other Star Wars books. Even if he had to die (which he didn't) at least it could have been over something fitting for a veteran and hero of the SW books. Besides, these characters eventually do have to die, but the averahe human lifespan is 70 to 80, and a Jedi's lifespan is considerably longer, as is a Wookie's lifespan. If you've read the Han Solo trilogy (which I have) at that time Chewie was about a 100 years old. If the author had let him live, he wouldn't have died for a long time. The book did have it's good points, such as the softening of Mara's razor edge character. Ultimately, I'm looking forward to the next book, especially since I am hoping Chewbacca would be brought back. If you are reading this, Mr. Salvatore or any other SW author, remember that bringing back Chewie is not impossible, and it will only make you and your books more popular for bringing back a character that is one of the most realistic and beloved in the Star Wars universe.
Rating: Summary: Vector Prime Review: This book was a "so-so" book, The death of Chewbacca sucked and I HATED the fact there was no Empire...In Vision of the FUture the Empire's goals were realistic and intresting.
Rating: Summary: Don't be fooled Review: I don't want to go into detail with the review, rather than to point out that I liked it more than most of the SW Bantam novels, and that I thought the death was very well timed and necessary. Also, I wanted to point out to all of those reading these reviews from the top to look at the Customer Review Average at the top of the page: 4 stars. The reason you are seeing so many 1 star reviews at the top is because of people that read Mr. Salvatore's interview on theforce.net about his good reviews here at Amazon. It seems that a several people wanted to change that. Still, the average is 4 stars, and it deserves that.
Rating: Summary: Great starting point for the series Review: This is a must read for every Star Wars fan especially those who are tired of the repetition that his been going on in the previous Star Wars novels. R.A.Salvatore's style in this novel is intriguing. Many character changes and developments are present, and as most of you are aware by now, there is a huge spoiler in the story. What's amazing however is that even though I knew what the spoiler was long before I read the story, the way it was conveyed through the writer's style still shocked me. As for the content, whether you like reading Force philosophy or starfighter attacks, this novel has it all. A new enemy with a very different mode of attack than what we're used to, staff-saber duels, asteroid fields, and an amazing use of the Force are in there to make everyone satisfied. I highly recomend this book to every Star Wars fan, whether you've read the other Star Wars novels or this is your first.
