Summary: Extremely disappointing
Review: Mountains of hype, and under it this pathetic mouse of a book. The death of you-know-who doesn't bother me--but the arbitrary way it occurred does (gotta do the deus ex machina thing now). New characters completely cardboard. Old characters blandly handled. Plot stupid and cliched. Salvatore gets numerous things hilariously wrong. The previous comments about it being 'dark' are baffling--it's not 'dark', it's just dull. I thought the TPM novelization was an aberration--apparently not. This is the new norm. Save your money, folks.

Summary: Catchy, but difficult to follow at first
Review: Starting forthright, I'll say that bilingualism is definitely a pre-requisite for this book. I had to take notes to remember the difference between dovin basals and oogolith masquers--not to mention trying to analyze a cmpletely alien psyche. I'll probably have to re-read it to truly appreciate all of Salvatore's hard work- him being a rookie to my realm and all. I am really impressed with the sheer effort that he put into trying to please us SW fans. It's not an easy task keeping me happy. I've hated some of the other Extended Universe Novels. Vector Prime is worthy of spending some time on though. I'm not sold on Salvatore's style, but his content was certainly not lacking.

Summary: I bought it to see how Chewbacca dies.
Review: Vector Prime has the honor of being the first Star Wars novel I have ever read, as well as being the first R. A. Salvatore novel I have ever read. In looking over the reviews I find that I have to agree with most of the negative ones--the characters bear little or no resemblance to the ones you are familiar with through the movies. So what. After two decades, people change. The over all ideas behind the story are fine. I enjoy a good extra-galactic invasion story. Unfortunately, Mr. Salvatore doesn't seem to be able to write a good extra-galactic story. The only scene that really seemed well done was one where someone gets an axe in the chest. There was very little logic behind behavior and technology (they abhor machinery, yet have managed to get off-planet using only genetically crafted animals). Maybe Salvatore is good at fantasy, I don't know, but there are some things you can do in fantasy that just won't work with science fiction. Who knows. I do know that the next book I read was Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire. I had never read anything by Zahn before, but I greatly enjoyed it. Timothy Zahn is an accomplished Sci-Fi writer. Character-wise, instead of going, That Han, What a Rascal! He actually had Han being a rascal. Oh, well.

Summary: Star Wars fanatics beware!
Review: If you are a hard headed star wars fan, stay away from this book. IT will shake your little world up and that is what Lucas (Yes, George himself! ) intended! If you are not a hard headed star wars fan, you will love this book. Salvatore brings his amazing writing style to the sci-fi genre and does a darn good job of it. The characters are well developed, the fight scenes are something Salvatore is well known for, and the naration is amazing. This is truly one of the best books I have ever read!

Summary: Must read!!
Review: This book, "Vector Prime", is a fantastic addition to any Star Wars fan's collection. R.A.Salvatore did an excellent job with the characters. Well, except for one instance. Many people know, that this book contains the death of one of the most beloved characters from the original trilogy. A moment that brought tears to my eyes. Chewbacca may be gone, but is not forgotten.

Summary: Good But not Star Wars
Review: This book is good but is not made with the quality you come to expect from a Star Wars book. I am a big Star Wars fan and love Star Wars books, but while I was reading this one I did not feel like I was in the Star Wars universe. This is because the characters did not have the same personality as in other books. This book disappointed me. With the death of a main character the books that come after this time period will be limited. The disease Mara Jade has also took out some of the enjoyment. This is not one of those books that you can't put down. I would have rated this book higher if it was not Star Wars because it is too unbelieveable for Star Wars.

Summary: incredible
Review: Salvatore really captures the characters in his writing style. I had read some of his fantasy and was hopeful that he would be able to write SF just as well. He more than exceeded my hopes and expectations. He has proven again his ability to write in a style that really brings the reader into the story - a great read.

Summary: Skip Vector Prime, go directly to Onslaught
Review: If you haven't bought Vector Prime yet: DON'T. Go directly to the listing for Michael Stackpole's new Star Wars novel "Dark Tide Book One: Onslaught" and purchase it instead.

Vector Prime is a poorly constructed mish-mash of a book that bears little to no resemblance to the Star Wars universe as we know it through earlier books.

Looking for your favorite characters? You won't find them here. Oh, their names are the same, but the personalities are one-dimensional.

Looking for a tightly plotted story? It ain't here, either. Instead, characters fly off willy nilly solely as it suits the author, with little to no explanation given for the enormous coincidences that are the only engine driving this plot.

In a word, this books -- well, it's the word used to describe how you are able to drink through a straw.

It's incredibly disappointing.

But if you ARE looking for a terrific Star Wars novel, go directly to "Onslaught." There you'll find the characters we know and love, with a story that is very well told indeed. You don't need Vector Prime at all -- Stackpole does a great job summing up everything you need to know, with a far greater emotional impact than Salvatore was capable of.

Trust me. You'll be much happier -- and you'll save a few dollars!

Summary: I've got a bad feeling about this.
Review: I don't know if it is because I expect more from these novels, or if I accept that the author can not be constrained by the expectations of the die-hard Star Wars fans. The story just did not rise to the level I expect from a worthy Science Fiction tale. It was a unique view of the galaxy to be sure, but I found too many similarities to other works (bio-weapons, frontiers, etc.) that I did not get maximum enjoyment out of the read. I apologize for being mildly harsh, yet I wouldn't have passed up the book either.

Summary: Not Worth the Trouble
Review: The author's writing style has potential but the story itself lacks the substance that you find in both Stackpole and Zahn's books. It relies on dramatic emotional changes, instead of an intelligent plot and storyline to keep it interesting. The way that the author portrays situations in the book, is very clear but he lacks foundation in the story. On the whole I was disappointed and it is only worth reading if you want to keep up with the overall Star Wars universe.
