Summary: The darkest story since ESB!
Review: Now, I saw that a lot of people didn't like that book very much. Me, I loved it! I think that the New Jedi Order will be a great storyline. This book is a great start, Luke is in conflict to bring back the Jedi Council, the Solo kids are becoming great Jedi, especially Anakin. But best of all, it's got the best vilains since the Empire. These guys can not be detect by the Force. A great effort, and a great dark book. I liked the way they killed one of the major characters. it shows how much we care for them. A must for any SW fans! But don't look for a happy ending!

Summary: THE WORST STAR WARS BOOK EVER!
Review: If I could use one word to describe this book, it would be BAD. The plot was worthless, there was no character development, and even worse CHEWIE DIED! I thought that the main characters were'nt supposed to die! Chewie's death was even worse due to his doing absolutly nothing in the Hand of Thrawn. With the New Jedi Order series being 25(!) books long, I think that all of our favorite characters will be dead by the last book. I also think that there are some loose ends to tie up, such as the Ssi-Ruuk and the Hand of Thrawn, before they start up an invasion of stupid aliens that ends after one book. R.A. Salvator should stick to D&D if you ask me. DON'T read this book, it will ruin your enjoyment of the galaxy far, far away...

Summary: HUGELY DISAPPOINTING - BRING BACK BANTAM
Review: The story isn't real bad - it just isn't Star Wars. Go back to what ever you normally write. The characters seem to flounder about with a plot that was extremely bloody and didn't seem to have enough focus. The Force was non- existent and the Solo children (the twins being 16 now) seem to know more about being a Jedi than Luke who taught them. Luke and Mara relationship was a wash up (he had a better relationship with R2 all along. People that think they are newly married is probably because they read the Young Jedi novels - the timeframe is short between them and the New Jedi Order. It was extremely sad and felt more like the end than book 1 of a 5 hardback book arc the spans 5 galactic years. And maybe it is the NJO - because all our favorites will die before the arc is finished. I really miss the previous smaller story arcs, they did not occur in order (big deal)-true but at least they ended in a reasonable timeframe. Delrey and Lucas Books(who we never heard about before this) will not disclose the length of time it will take to bring out the ending hardback book. That to me is an extremely BIG turn off. Authors should know the SW universe - this one didn't. George Lucas needs to back up and re-look at his Lucas Books and his decision and take SW fiction back to Bantam whose SW universe followed the movies. Lucas said episodes 7-9 will not be done. These books will have to take their place. Brian Daley is probably rolling in his grave. The best place for this book is in the trash or bonfire.

Summary: I am not a die hard fan
Review: The book was badly written. But I understand why some people liked it. It had a lot of action and everyone likes that. If you don't care how well a book is written and just like battles with aliens that wouldn't even scare my son then this book is for you.

Summary: You Don't Tug on Superman's Cape, and You Don't Kill Chewie!
Review: Admittedly, Salvatore's work is superior to K.J. Anderson's, but this book left me unsatisfied nevertheless. A shame, too, because it had great potential.

Finally the New Republic/Jedi dyad meets a significant challenge instead of yet another pushover ex-Imperial warlord. The Y. Vong make cunning villains. The author does an admirable job of weaving the various newer characters in with the old standbys, too. BUT...

We are led to believe that Chewbacca is killed by a crashing moon? No way. This alone ruined the book for me. If he really is gone, Salvatore might as well have written off Anakin, too. To tag Chewie out instead of the interesting-as-cardboard Kyp is at least an oversight, if not an outright travesty. Denying readers the pleasure of seeing Miko get in a decent swing at the war coordinator is also maddening.

In a 387-page novel, we are asked to accept that our heroes figure out to dry-freeze the Y. Vong's planet-base all in one chapter, via a casual afternoon discussion? And they pull it off with a mere handful of shieldships? Sorry, that's too easy, and not very convincing. They master the use of the "mysterious technology" gnulliths and oogliths quicker than you can say "what luck." The Y. Vong come from an entirely separate and unknown galaxy (why didn't we learn more along the way about their galaxy and their motivations for taking over the SW one?), yet C-3PO has absolutely no difficulty pulling their extra-galactic language off his hard drive? Please.

Boba Fett escaping the Sarlacc was more believable than this. Yes, it's fiction, I know, but presenting the heroes with the solution on a silver platter leaves one disappointed.

I wish Brian Daley, who probably rolled over in his grave when those "Hurry up--gotta do something R.L. Stine-like" Galaxy of Fear books came out, could return and set things straight. Perhaps Mr. Stackpole puts us back on course with his follow-up to this novel. Heck, crash the next Y. Vong worldship somewhere in Ssi-Ruuk controlled space!

While this book has its moments, it is unsatisfying on the whole, and I am led to conclude that Salvatore is more adept with the gnomes, golems, and trolls of the D&D world.

Summary: no consistancy
Review: I love Star Wars. This was a shallow picture of the SW Universe. It had a contrived ending, more like Star Trek when you try the trinitron burst from the Sony zappalizer to bring all to a conclusion. And the lead character in the beginning of the novel was supposed to be a warrior but acted like a coward, stabbing everyone in the back. Luke, Han and the rest were one dimensional. Only good part of the book was the Starwars timeline and map.

Summary: To boldly go where no author has gone before. . .
Review: R.A. Salvatore did an absolutely fabolous job on this very demanding and difficult task. He was selected to write a new Star Wars novel, to take the novels in a new direction. He had the daunting task of creating a new and horrifying foe, setting the stage for a whole new set of novels, and killing off a major character. This book is very different from other Star Wars novels, but is a fantastic voyage into the New Jedi Order.

Summary: Young Writer Shows Great Promise
Review: This was a very strong book that one senses has set up a series of great plots for the future editions of the New Jedi Order. It took some time to set up, but once it got going it became an excellent novel. The book's major new enemy has great potential in the future, and acts as a clear foil to the ususal band of characters that follow the storyline as it unfolds. A must have for any Star Wars bookshelf.

Summary: GEORGE LUCAS -- GIVE THE FICTION CONTRACT BACK
Review: When I read that the fiction contract had gone to DelRey - I said "I have a bad feeling about this." And this book proves it. It is too bad that we can't give negative stars because I would this book them. I was totally disgusted with so many things about this book it would take pages to state them so I will say that I feel like the Star Wars universe has died and I am in mourning. All the idealism, the hope and the fantasy are missing here. The book seem to last forever and the beloved chaaracters seem like puppets. The force was missing and so was the mysticism. A BIG MISTAKE. DelRey/Lucas Books are you listening?

Summary: Is good, but sad
Review: This book is a very good book, but the part that is most sad is when chewie died. Why he died? Another thing that I want to said is: When Luke and Mara are going to have any children? Well, this book is good, so read it.
