Rating: Summary: Originality, but lacks style Review: My major complaint with this book was that I found the writing style never really painted any mental pictures. Truly good books will throw you into the middle of the action, where this one leaves you watching in from the outside. There were some parts where I could "see" the action and story (like a mourning Han Solo in the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon) but I did feel very disconnected from the story as a whole.Another problem I had was that the story relied too much on me having read certain other novels in the Star Wars universe, and I hadn't. Quite frankly, I have not enjoyed a lot of the Star Wars books and fell out of reading them. (I did love a good portion of them, but there was an unhealthy mix of bad in with the good; a number lacked originality, a whole series of books was horribly authored...) I was sort of lost at the beginning of Vector Prime when the characters alluded to events I had not read about and will probably never try to read. Nevertheless, I do not think Vector Prime is a bad book. It had its low points, but the book did a wonderful job of getting rid of the "immortal Rebel heroes" idea. Finally, somebody with the guts to show the realistic side of the universe Lucas never did in the movies! (You don't seriously expect me to believe that not a single stormtrooper can shoot straight and an Empire of millions can be so easily defeated?) So well I didn't particularly enjoy the writing style, I felt the novel had enough originality to warrant four stars.
Rating: Summary: All most perfect Review: I must say I really was into the book. I think it was nice that for once there was a different enemy than the Empire. But I do not think that it was a good idea to kill Chewbacca. I would also have liked to see some of the Jedi from the Young Jedi Knight series like Zekk in the book. All together I think it good book and I had fun reading it.
Rating: Summary: Not the best but is still pretty good Review: Decent book starts off the New Jedi Order well but the book is slow and is simply not as well written as the Zahn books. Don't start here if you've never read the Star Wars novels. Star with the Thrawn Trilogy.
Rating: Summary: Way to go, Salvatore! Review: This is probably the a turning point in the Star Wars novel timeline. Don't get me wrong, I liked most of the other books, but, like most people, was getting tired of *another* superweapon or Dark Jedi rampage bent on killing all the good guys (but never succeed). In Vector Prime, Salvatore introduces something to the Star Wars universe that it has never seen: Mortality. No longer is everyone invincible. And someone bites the bullet. To all the people who got mad over that last point: get a life, it's a frickin' book. Rogue Squadron is much more vulnerable: They actually take losses. And the Yuuzhan Vong are NOT the Empire reborn- They're the worthy foe that everyone's been hoping for. This is an unquestionably great novel, and it's better than Dark Tide 1 and 2, by a hair. Bravo, R.A. Salvatore.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Star Wars entry! Review: I read over 75 novels every year, in many different genres. I have read a lot of science-fiction and about 11 of the Star Wars novels. Just so you'll know where I'm coming from, I admit to a certain bias for RA Salvatore. I regard his fantasy works as among the best of contemporary authors. Having said that, I was thrilled when I first learned he would pen a volume of the SW universe. Finally I would get to read high quality SW adventure the way it was meant to be (Timothy Zahn also achieves this in his SW novels). I was not disappointed. Salvtore remains true to his strengths, especially when it comes to action sequences. The novel is easy to read, with a plausible, yet exciting plot. The characters are in-line with the movies and the story fits in well with the extensive background already created with all of the other SW novels. Salvatore is not afraid to test the boundaries of the SW conventions either, especially when it comes to the safety of the major characters. Frankly, before this novel, most of the SW stories had gotten a little too predictable and I started to lose interest. Other authors have let theselves be managed by the characters but Salvatore makes it clear that the story is primary. In short, a great addition to the SW line. I know George Lucas is happy or he wouldn't have picked Salvatore to do the novelization of Episode II.
Rating: Summary: Great, but not the best... Review: I thought that this was a great book. It was almost a horror story the way the author wrote. THe only part I didn't like was how quick the book was resolved... Any more information and I would give the book away
Rating: Summary: MY FAVORITE STARWARS BOOK Review: This is perhaps the best Starwars ever written. [It] kind of makes you a little edgy because now you really have to question who is going to live through this. The Vong are an interesting enemy. I am a little confused about something. I read Rogue Planet and they seemed to make a reference to this. If you are going to read these books i suggest you definitly read The Hand of Thrawn Duology by Zahn and Rogue Planet as they are going to play a large role in the future I suspect.
Rating: Summary: What in the world is this? Review: How does a race kill everyone with the living? Very few fights involving the true passion of the jedi. Killing of main characters doesn't make you a great writer either. In my eyes, Timothy Zahn will always be the true master author of the Star Wars Universe.
Rating: Summary: BAh! this is a good book Review: I have read all of the star wars novels except the black fleet series !cough!. this is a good addtion to the star wars universe. althogh there is a drastic change, it is new and creative. so much so that am reading the 3 book series over agian- vector => onslaught=> ruin.
Rating: Summary: Vector's a Crime Review: It disgusts me that as soon as Del Rey gets its Star Wars licenseback, they came out with Vector Prime. The story of the NewRepublic's battle against the Yuuzhan Vong begins with a disguised Yuuzhan Vong warrior wreaking havoc on a scientific research planet. The story goes on with the tale of this new species invading New Republic airspace. Many battles ensue, including one between Mara Jade and a Yuuzhan Vong warrior. I advise against reading this book. The story is choppy, the plot is pathetic, and the book is just plain boring. I hope R.A. Salvatore will do a better job on the novelization of Episode Two. Skip this, and read Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire.
