Summary: Better than I, Jedi at least....
Review: I'll admit Stackpole's previous attempts at writing stories abut Jedi were disastrous, but it finally seems he has a good series going here. The X-Wing books fit his writing style perfectly, but it didn't seem like fighter pilots and Jedi mixed. I'll admit I was wrong... in part. This book is definetly worth your attention, though if you know nothing about Star Wars you shouldn't read it. Onslaught relies heavily on the expanded universe's characters and material, and it won't make sense to those who are unfamiliar with classics like Heir to the Empire and Vision of the Future. It seems to me that the original characters are getting overshadowed by new ones, though this is rather inevitable. I'd like to see more credit on Luke's part. I also thought it was interesting how Stackpole portrayed Mara Jade. It made me kind of frustrated because she is Zahn's character and no one can write about her like him. However, Onslaught is an excellent book all in all. The plot was complex and made you think, and the villains were top notch. I think it would have been even better if they took out the part at the end which let's you see the story from the Vhong's point of view, but anyway, these guys are enough to give anyone the heeby jeebies. Really, it's pretty obvious the New Republic is on the edge of Revolution, so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I thought the political situations in this book were fairly well done, and it's amazing how the conflict between aliens and humans is still thriving. Again, it made me frustrated that Leia just wasn't as strong as she used to be, but I think her three kids made up for that. Believe me, they are one trio you don't want to mess with. They may seem a little cocky and non-jedi like, but they're still young, and besides, Luke started out like that, too. Basically, all the characters in this book had some good points to them (besides Fey'lya =<) and the story moved at a fast enough pace with enough suspense to keep me enthralled. I'd like to see more deep Jedi philosophy, but other than that, this book is great!

Summary: Not true to "Character"
Review: So far I have been disappointed with the NJO books - Vector Prime and now Onslaught. In fact, I've thought twice about even ordering the next books and usually I just can't wait until the next Star Wars book hits the stores. I believe the reason is that I do not like the way the authors are writing the characters. Even though the characters have "grown-up" since the movies, I still use the movies to reference how the characters would react. In these books I often ask myself whether Leia, Han, Luke, etc. would really say or do whatever is written. Sometimes Lando seems the only character that has kept his personality.

Summary: good but should been better
Review: Michael A Stackpole opened this story up with a wonderful idea. The plot was magnificant, but I would have liked to see more Han Solo and less of the complaining of Jacen Solo. I also would like to see the cure for Mara's disease, I grow tired of the sick Mara. She needs to fight not be taken care of, although I did appreciate the way she helped Anakin develope.

I also believe that we should have seen more action from the New Republic and the wonderful characters such as Wedge.

Overall, it was an outstanding book but I had expected much more. I look forward to reading Dark Tide Ruin.

Summary: EVOLVING STORIES
Review: FIRST I WANT TO SAY THAT ALL AROUND I LIKE STACKPOLE MORE THAN ZAHN NOT BECAUSE HE'S DEEPER IN THOUGHT BUT BECAUSE HE DOESN'T WRITE STORIES WITH COINCIDENTAL OR OCASSIONALLY IMPLAUSIBLE CONCLUSIONS.LIKE FINDING A CERTAIN SOMEONES HAND AFTER MANY YEARS.BACK TO ONSLAUGHT, IT HAD ACTION PLENTY OF FIGHT SCENES DESCRIBED IN DETAIL, CHARACTER DEVELOPEMENT AND ENOUGH DESCRETION TO MAKE YOU THINK AND IMAGINE.I THINK IT WAS GOOD THAT THE VONGS WERE NOT SHOWN TO MUCH TO GIVE THE SAME IMPRESSION THAT WAS GIVEN IN THE PHANTOM MENACE WHEN SIDIOUS STAYED IN THE SHADOWS NOT YET REVEALING HIS FULL CAPABILITIES.

SO IN CONCLUSION I THINK THAT THIS IS A GREAT BOOK. I ALSO HOPE THAT THE BOOKS WILL GET MORE INTELLECTUAL PHILISOPHICAL ESPECIALLY WITH LUKE SO HE HAS BOTH ACTION WHEN NEEDED AND DEPTH TO HIS CHARACTER IN EVERY BOOK.AS WELL AS ALL THE CHARACTERS(LIKE THE JEDI'S). 5 STARS.

Summary: Dark Tide
Review: Personally i loved this book. Lots of plot and action just what everyone expects in a good book. The only problem I'm having is that I can't tell if Vector Prime is a part 1 of this or if they are seperate novels. This is because they are both labled A new Jedi Order. If you can help me out here you can e-mail me at direct43@hotmail.com

Summary: promising, can't wait for the sequel
Review: overall this is a great book and I'm a huge fan of Mr. Stackpole. He understands the characters well and writes Mara Jade well, second only to Timtohy Zahn her creator. What did dissapoint me however was that we got very little insight into the minds of the new villains though that will probably be dealt with in the sequel and that the Solo children weren't all that convincingly written, i'm 17 myself and the twins don't sound anything like me!Apart from that great! Definately recommend reading it and can't wait for the sequel.

Summary: What in space was this?
Review: Well, this book was definately not what i was expecting. I'm not a big Han fan myself, but sheesh! Two measly pages? (maybe one, I didn't count.) When I read about all that "Luke fans will enjoy this one" I thought well, finally. Hel-lo! After every fight he gets exhausted, and the dialougue (in all the original characters, but especieally Luke) was hideous! I mean, when would Luke say "Wow, I'd not expected that" ? When would Mara ever say anything along the lines of "husband mine" and "my love"? Sheesh again. wheres' the REAL Stackpole? Is he asleep? Or better yet, I guess the question is, Where's Tim Zahn? I only gave it two stars because at least they didn't kill off anyone else cool. And Mara had better not be next! husband mine, indeed!

Summary: Star Wars- Onslaught review
Review: Do you like star wars novels packed to the gills with action , exciteing space battles with unexpected turnes and a new alien species all in one book ? If you do, onslaught is for You. It takes place 25 years after the battle of Yavin(destruction of the death star) and stars our heros- luke , han , and leia. Han and leia's children jacen , jaina , and anakin also play a very promenent role in this fast paced book. You must understand that by this time in star wars history , Luke Skywalker has married Mara Jade . Han and leia are married and have three children. The rebel alliance has dissolved into the New Republic , andthe Jedi order are florishing , growing to suprising numbers. The 'Yuuzhan Vong ' forces are attacking the New Republic . Now their back with supprising strenght . Our heros must do everything in thier power to stop them. A sequel to ' vector prime' , dark tide-onslaught is an exelant book written by michael stackpole . I highly recoment it to anybody , and look forward to the next book , Dark tide-Ruin .

Summary: If you liked Vector Prime...
Review: Onslaught is a wonderful book that portrays the newest generation of warriors taking up arms to defend the galaxy perfectly. Michael A. Stackpole integrates classic characters and new appearances into this book well. When the New Republic refuses to acknowledge the threat of the advancing Yuuzhan Vong on the Outer Rim, the galaxy's fate hangs in the balance. Only the heroics of the Jedi Knights, Rogue Squadron, and the New Republic's military stand between the unprepared and unprotected galaxy and the ruthles Yuuzhan Vong. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read the continuing saga of the New Jedi Order that began with R.A. Salvatore's Vector Prime.

Summary: New Jedi Order--Who ordered this?
Review: The problems with this novel are dual. The first major problem is that it strictly adheres to the plot formula established by Timothy Zahn in the first Star Wars trilogy and by now this formula is looking threadbare and tired. Stackpole strictly adheres to the Zahn formula of shifting scenes/perspectives every chapter even when it might be more profitable to remain focused on one plot thread for two or three chapters. His ability to gather those plot threads together at the end of the novel is also less than accomplished. Not surprisingly, Stackpole also interjects a heavy dose of the always stiffly written Rogue Squadron into a book which is supposed to focus on "The New Jedi Order".

The second problem with this novel is Michael Stackpole's tin ear for dialogue and adherence to the "tell me; don't show me" school of writing. All of the Jedi speak as if they were members of twelve step programs who will incessantly tell you about their personal growth even as it simultaneously occurs.

Only truly devoted Star Wars fiction fans should bother with this one. Basically, Dark Tide: Onslaught is a potboiler that simmers at best.
