Rating: Summary: Must read Review: This is a must read for all ages above 10
Rating: Summary: A deadly new foe... Review: ... Micheal Stackpole first edition to the New Jedi Order Series is definitely owrthy of compliment. It perfectly brings the new and old generations of Star Wars fans together and makes a great continuation of Vector Prime. Though, this isn't my favorite book in the series, it did have some well described action scenes. I don't think this book, though, quite gave me the edge of the seat effect other Stars Wars books do though and for some reason this book just didn't have that much juice to it. Still, I do recommend this book to Star Wars fans all over our wide galaxy.
Rating: Summary: oh this series is terrific Review: the yuuzhan von have started their invasion of the universe. luke skywalker sends the jedi out on diffrent missions to check out the activity on the rim to see if the enemy has been attackin. they find more than they barained for. the solo kids play a nice role in it and they have all the old favorites in it so it is really nice to see everyone workin toether for once. i recommend that you read the whole series and you will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Stackpole's Finest Work. Review: I've read the X-Wing Series, and wasn't a big fan of Stackpole's contribution. It seemed a little stale, and technical, so maybe I came into the Dark Tide series a little skeptical. However, this book very much impressed me, and I went through it in Twenty Four hours. One of the best parts of the novel is the Solo Kids. I stopped the YJK series after the first book, being so annoyed at their characterization. In this one, they shine, showing a nice level of philosophy, and intelligence. While some have complained about the level of lectures on the force, I loved it. It brings new amounts of depth to The Force, and further helps develop Corran and Luke's characters. The book would've went down a star without it. The multiple storylines throughout the book also make the pace go well, and further the interest of the book. The only problem was the Dantooine battle, which seemed a bit disjointed. In all, well-written, with a tight plot, great pace, and most of all, solid characterization.
Rating: Summary: Standard NJO book. Not overly impressive but solid. Review: Many people have already written about the plotline for Onslaught, the second book in the NJO series. I am going to concentrate on the book itself. This is an average Stackpole Star Wars book. It is not particularly good or bad, it is very entertaining but it is very predictable and not of the calibar of Stackpole's X-Wing books, I, Jedi, or even the second book to this mini-series Ruin. The characterizations are bland, and there is not much character development. You don't have to think very much when reading this book. I have the biggest problem with Stackpole's characterization of Kyp Durron which is <excuse the expression> light years away from the way Salvatore portrayed him. This lack of continuity is really an ongoing problem in the NJO series and Stackpole should not be singled out for blame. Overall this is an entertaining, average Stackpole book, but keep in mind that since Stackpole is one of the 2 best writers in the Star Wars universe, then anything average is still better than the work by most other authors.
Rating: Summary: I almost forgot Stackpole!! Review: I could never do that I read the entire X-wing serise and love them(although Mike didn't write the last 4 hehe no matter). At this point in the serise the Yuuzhan Vong are still not understood for the most part. A lot of this book reminds me of England in the early '30 and '40, ok so what if this Hitler guy is a threat maybe he is rational. Well in this serise the Yuuzhan Vong are Hitler. Crazy and apparently unstoppable these bad boys have been sweeping up planets right and left. However Luke, Mara, Han, Liea and the others have a plan if they can somehow snach a minor victory and prove that the Yuuzhan Vong can be beaten then maybe all hope is not lost.
Rating: Summary: What a letdown! Review: I didn't care much for Vector Prime, so I was hoping that Michael Stackpole, one of my favorite SW authors, would be able to do something interesting with the NJO series. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed with this. The main problem is with the characterizations. Hardly anyone in this book acts believable. The New Republic senate is portrayed as a handful of childish whiners. Mara Jade still has the galaxy's most boring and tedious wasting disease. Luke's Jedi Academy is churning out jerks who look and act like Snidely Whiplash. And the Solo kids...well, I won't even go there. The villains are evil simply for the sake of being evil and scary and threatening, and their god-like biotechnology is both incredibly far-fetched and poorly explained. After Vector Prime, I wanted to read a SW novel that wouldn't insult my intelligence, would capture the feel of the galaxy portrayed in the movies, and would show me some smart, witty, lifelike characters I could care about and relate to. All those qualities could be found in Stackpole's Rogue Squadron novels and I, Jedi. But they were nowhere to be found in this book.
Rating: Summary: The essence of Star Wars was carried on in this book. Review: The New Jedi Order series is simply incredible. It is such an involved journey that you feel as if you're part of it, continually compelled to read on. This chapter of the series was no exception. All of the books in the series deserve a 5 out of 5, as does this book. Such incredible things happened that left me blown away and amazed, making me pause to soak in the awesome things that have happened. You feel what the characters are going through, you hope with them and share their pain. It is a great addition to the NJO series.
Rating: Summary: One word comes to mind "Awesome" Review: I can't see how this book could have been any beter, it gets a well deserved 5. Dark Tide I takes Vector Prime in stride and improves the story by leaps and bounds. I've read most of the Star Wars books, and I have to say this series is right up their with my favorites, The Jedi Academy Series and Darksaber, and surpasses them. The jedi have always seemed invincible, but they become very much vunerable to the attack of the Vong, aliens who can't be sensed in the force. A neat blend of X-wing squadron and Jedi Academy Series in one novel. I love this book and can't wait to get my hands on the next one!
Rating: Summary: One of Stackpole's Best Review: Book two in the New Jedi Order series, Onslaught is already turning up the heat. Right off the bat, Stackpole starts off with were Salvador left off, with the Yuuzahn Vong invasion. He puts a very good tactical spin on this book, making it like an X-Wing combat book. The New Republic is up against the Vong Coralskippers, and he makes them a challange! He also brings in the Rogue Squadron and provides a good adventure for them. In addistion to the X-Wing portions. He also brings in the Jedi, and portays them beautifully. Once, the jedi were thought to be unstoppable, but now they have sever limits. The Yuuzahn Vong cannot be sensed through the force, and their weapons and ship are better. Corran Horn and Ganner Rysode go to a small planet to find out if the Vong are there, Jacen Solo and Luke Skywalker go to another, the first planet they attacked to find out what is going on, and Leia goes to Lando to evacuate the refugees. By the end of the book, we learn much more about the vong weapontry and themselves, and come to a fantastic ground and land battle on Dantooine. A wonderful Star Wars read.
