Summary: Onslaught...Passing of the torch to new characters!
Review: Michael Stackpole is a great sci fi writer. 'I, Jedi' was great, and this novel solidifies him as a boneafide Star Wars novelist. His descriptions of landscapes, alien worlds and technology vividly paint pictures within your head without going overboard like other authors.

What makes Onslaught a unique book is: 1) This book begins a story arc that seems to fit in between Vector Prime's overall story arc. Though it can be read alone, probably best if you read Vector Prime first to understand some events. 2) It is hard to describe, but this is a great novel with no real plot resolution or end. This novel seems to almost to be a prelude to an actual novel not yet out--meaning that there are numerous events taking shape all across the Star Wars universe, almost shot like small vignettes, and only towrds the physical end of the novel do things start shaping up getting ready for hopefully the next one. 3) The Vong (enemies) here have no central characters unlike the one's in Vector Prime. They are treated as this overall imposing threat and we learn more about them through their actions and culture, but no one Vong character is present....until the Epilouge. 4) Some of your main SW chracters you have learned to love aren't here or play very MINOR roles....Han is only around very briefly in the beginning, Lando has a 'few' moments, there really is no 3PO, Ackbar, Mothma, Antilles, etc.

5) <I seperated this for a reason> Another character dies. This lends some believability to this New Jedi Order of novels. The characters we love, aren't invincible anymore, and neither are their friends. A great plus!

6) Most importantly, I beelive this novel truly does usher us into the next generation of Star Wars. We see some returning Jedi from other novels playing a more prominent role, you see less of the standard characters, we are seeing new enemies with little of the Imperial Remenant. However, this is the deciding novel where the Solo children are finally given their own identities. We were always treated to Jacen and Jaina as twins and whenever they were written about it was typical twin stuff. Anakin Solo was just the cute little kid who was strong in the force. But here is where Stackpole shines....We now see the individual strengths, fears, and dreams of these children. Jacen is very insightful questioning his own role as a Jedi, Anakin full of Pride (never wants to let Luke or Mara down), Jaina full of adventure (the next Rouge). It just gets better and better.

I think one of the best scenes for me was when Jacen and Anakin were side by side, new Jedi's in trade, taking on the Vong. It was a real page turner and I felt as if I was there with them, adrenaline pumping. When a writer can do that, it's a good novel!

Summary: Better than VP, Read it series works well.
Review: The fact that the Vong have nothing to do with the force is a big suprise in this series. It's probably worth reading the rest just to find out how and why.

Summary: Great Book
Review: Wow, I just couldn't put it down and when I was finished Ilogged on to Amazon.com to see if the second book to this series wasavailable ( and it isn't ). The author kept the story flowing. Ilike the way that he introduced the new players. He also gave maturity to the our old hero's. They have all become a little wiser with age. I hope that in book 2 Han can find a way to keep the memory of Chewie in his heart and not blame his son. END

Summary: A different view of Stackpole
Review: If you are familiar with Stackpole's work, then you'll know that this is a lot different. In his other Star Wars books, he focuses on the fighter jocks. In Onslaught, Stackpole writes from the point of view of some characters he's never done before, such as Luke Skywalker and Anakin Solo. The plot is good, but not gripping. It leaves you craving for more of the story.

Summary: Great Star Wars action with the original feel
Review: I liked how the author developed separate challenges for the characters and then brought them all together for a big ending. The theme is consistant with the original Star Wars and also introduces a different point of view to life and the force. I did not, however, appreciate the amount of detailed violence. I think the book would be rated at a PG-13 or higher for violence if it were a movie.

Summary: A couple of questions and requests
Review: I have a few questions about the New Jedi Order. First, dealing with Leia's talking about trying to get Wedge, Hobbie or Jansen in contact with Han: is this going to happen? I haven't actually read the whole book yet so if I act dumb on some parts I am. I heard Jim Lucemo or someone like that was going to write a couple of books about Han. I am hoping that Wedge, Tycho, Hobbie and/or Jansen will be involved with this book.

Second question: Now that the NJO is started, is it strictly taboo to write books taking place within the original time line. I was thinking about Stackpole's Isard's Revenge. I really liked how creative it was to tell a sort of behind the scenes story to the Thrawn trilogy. I was hoping maybe there could be more stories like this. Tell us where Rogue and Wraith Squadrons are during the Black Fleet trilogy, Children of the Jedi, Crystal Star, the entire Young Jedi Knight series. Think of how many great stories could be written. I hope this is still possible.

Three: Could Aaron Allston or Stackpole as a second choice write some NJO stories dealing with Wraith Squadron and Wedge, Tycho, Hobbie and Jansen? This would be great too. I don't believe they could stay retired with the whatever those aliens are called on the rampage.

As you've guessed I am a big fan of Wedge, Tycho, Hobbie and Jansen. All my requests boil down to this. Give me more of them. Wrapped into other books, starring in their own books, in the old timeline and the NJO I want more of them. Quickly, why do we refer to Jansen by his last name? We have Wedge, Tycho, Corran, Gavin, Luke, Han, Leia and Jansen. Why not Wes? Just curious.

Summary: May the Force be with Them
Review: This is one that I will reread! After Prime Vector I didn't think anything could save the Star Wars Series, but I was wrong. Mr. Stackpole brought it back to life. He did a remarkable job giving each of the characters maturity, purpose, and compassion. Each had a mission to complete without the prime character controlling them, if the failed they failed with no one to blame but themselves. Mr. Stackpole was able to bring them all back together... even Han (though he is grieving the loss of Chewie) was felt by Leia....I am looking forward to Part 2!

Summary: A great book
Review: Having read almost everyone of the Star Wars novels, I found this book enjoyable to read. The New Jedi order series got off to a good start in Vector Prime, and is continued with Dark Tide I: Onslaught. It is definately good enough for me to anticipate the next in the series greatly. If you are an avid fan of the Star Wars universe, I would definitely suggest reading this new series.

Summary: the old magic is back
Review: in order of not putting down the first book writen by salvatore, I must say that his effort to deal with caracters that were allready stablish, and known by quite sometime, was great! but some how satckpole vision was more compeling putting the heat were it was need it,the first book was ellegant enougth to bring me back to the old magic that star wars was for me, but the second book just blew up my mind, making me feel like a kid again! and wishing for that third book to come out.

Summary: Awesome
Review: This book was GREAT! Michael A. Stackpole was stunning in his vivid detail of our beloved Star Wars uninverse! The only downside...not enough Han Solo. Other than that this is a must read for any Star Wars fan, or anyone wanting to read a good book.
