Summary: Filling in the blanks...
Review: I read MISTS OF AVALON and FOREST HOUSE several years ago, only recently rediscovering my delight in Marion Zimmer Bradley and her treatment of the Arthurian legends. LADY OF AVALON, like PRIESTESS OF AVALON, offers the rich history of the generations between Caillean and Viviane. Because LADY is really 3 stories -- Caillean and Sianna, Dierna and Teleri, Ana and Viviane -- it works more directly to strengthen the mystical connections between the primary characters from generation to generation. The trade-off is that each story is more of a mini-history than an epic read, but it fills in the blanks about the evolution of Avalon and the relationship of the sacred isle with the rulers of Britain before Arthur/MISTS. In each story here, MZB explores the complex relationship between the current Lady of Avalon and her successor-in-waiting, as well as the repetition of the primal drama/love story of the marriage between Avalon and Britain (the Lady and a mortal king). The relationships between the women and their mentors/mothers were actually more complicated and interesting. I enjoyed experiencing all the connections that this volume in the series prompts, and it sent me back happily to check details about the Forest House. With PRIESTESS, which in a subplot offers Eilan's perspective on Teleri's story, this proved a very satisfying return to Avalon.

Summary: 1,000 stars!
Review: A wonderful book.A great tie between The Forest House and The Mists of Avalon.I loved the characters(especially Vivane and Ana) and the plot was spectacular! A 5 star book. Marion Zimmer Bradley is a wonderful author. It seems like she had experience with the religion(the way an autobiography is better than a biography). My second favorite book in the series!A spectacular mix of history and religion. An interesting battle of the old and the new. It is definetly on my list of favorites. I've already read it 3 times! I wish constantly that there were more to the series. (If your reading this Ms. Bradley, please considder more prequels!) A must on your summer reading list.

Summary: 4 Stars, very good
Review: This is one of those books where I don't know what to think. When I got it I thought it would deal with the Arthurian legends at least in part. Instead I found that the book dealt with basically the same tale being told again and again. This is of course accomplished by means of reincarnation so that in each story the names of the characters change but not their basic role in the plot.

My Impression-I liked the stories on an individual level but when woven together the effect is not as grand as just taking the characters and stories one at a time. This book really peaked my interested and I will look into the others. If you like a good adventure story I suggest you do the same.

Summary: Abridged audio version - Very well done
Review: Long, long ago, in 1982, I read for the first time _The Mists of Avalon_, the sequel to _Lady of Avalon_. It was a book that inspired and moved me from start to finish. These 20 years later, I found the audio edition of _Lady_ and looked eagerly forward to it. It was perhaps abridged a bit too much, but the bulk of the story seems to have stayed intact.

The story is every bit as much about the important men in the times preceding Camelot as it is about the women; spirits or souls are passed down through time into different bodies, but with similar purposes. The tale revolves around the isle of Avalon, and the conflicts in Britain surrounding it. Often touching and powerful, the story sweeps the reader away into times of mystery and magic, when all was possible if one only believed in it. Magical powers, totems, and animals roamed freely in Zimmer's world, as well as Elven folk and genuine heroes. Zimmer does a wonderful job of taking the reader into these ancient times, fully immersing us in the sights, scents and sounds of these nearly pre-historic times.

Truly a wonderful story, it may appeal more to women than to men in some senses, as it is a very introspective story that does spend more time upon the central female characters. However, this isn't to say that men will absolutely not enjoy the tale. I whole-heartedly recommend it, although it is not as powerful and moving a tale as _The Mists of Avalon_; then again, few things could be, in my view. Still, a very strong story, very entertaining.

Summary: disappointing prequel to Mists of Avalon
Review:

I don't know about you, gentle readers, but I loved the MISTS OF AVALON, affectionately known as Ms Magazine goes to Camelot. The pageantry, the mythology of the Goddess, the feminism! Great book no question. However in Ms. Bradley's new prequel, LADY OF AVALON, I was grievously disappointed. The cover shows a Stevie Nicks look a like in a blue smock with a slightly constipated look on her face. That's as good as it gets.

Reincarnation, heavy handed New Age philosophy and very sketchy characters (the priestesses of the sacred Isle of Avalon snipe at each other like annoyed girl scouts) add up to a mishmash unworthy of Ms Bradley and her previous works. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that I had to go rent Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Summary: Most Amazing book ever
Review: The Lady of Avalon, to me, surpasses the rest. Its magical and very well written. It captures ancient times in britain as well as the lives of the folk in the sacred isle. Overall, this book was really something and I hope the rest will enjoy reading it as i did.

Summary: Another great book by Marion Zimmer Bradley
Review: I love this book!!!I love it. It was just as good as The Mists of Avalon and it's like reading three books because there are three parts. The first part is about when they first close the mists around avalon, the next is a few High priestesses later, and the next is about Vivianne becoming High Priestess. This book is beyond words...wonderfully written, it is just wonderful, thats all I can say...you have to read it! I give this book 5 stars for being superb, just like The Mists of Avalon's SUPERBNESS. Marion Zimmer Bradley lives on as her books gives her life in our minds and hearts and memory.
