Summary: Please don't stop now, Mr. Zahn!
Review: The first SW book I ever picked up was Dark Force Rising, the second book in a trilogy by Timothy Zahn. Having just seen the movies for the first time, I assumed it would be a book with a very weak plot, its only hope at selling being the words "Star Wars" embossed on its front cover. How wrong I was. I finished the book in less than a week, couldn't get enough, and ran out to get the rest of Zahn's books, many of which I finished in less than 24 hours. Of his 5 SW novels, Vision of the Future is the best, but not by far. I have only one complaint - it ended. All of Zhan's books are very highly recommended.

Summary: Best Book Ever
Review: Timothy Zahn has done it again. I love this book! It's the best ever. It was written very well and it features my two favorite characters, LUKE SKYWALKER and MARA JADE!!! It was kind of obvious there was something going on there. At least the Lando thing was cleared up. I have one thing to say FINALLY!!!!

Summary: favorite book ever
Review: Timothy Zahn has done it again! I love this book! Partly because it's such a great book and also very well written, but also because it's finally another book with my two favorite characters, Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade. To me it seemed obvious that something was going on between them. And the thing about Lando is finally cleared up. I have one more thing to say; FINALLY!!

Summary: The BEST Star Wars author
Review: Zahn is by far the best of the Star Wars authors--although to be fair I've not read any of them that have been awful. In this book Luke and Mara FINALLY admit their feelings for each other.Besides that story, the rest of the book is great. It leaves you with just enough that you want to get the next book. I'd love to see Zahn write some more-especially of the NJO series.

Summary: Great Read!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I have read almost every adult Star Wars book and this is my favorite. The developement of Luke and Mara is wonderful in this book. Mara Jade is my favorite character. The threat to the universe is more interesting than some of the others. I like seeing Thrawn back. He was one of my favorite bad guys. Anyway, this is a great book. I really enjoyed it.

Summary: Zahn continues the tradtion
Review: Let me just say, thank God Zahn is back in command. While I personally do not feel that this book is as good as the Last Command, it is certainly one of the better SW books out there, and given the catastrophe of an Expanded Universe Zahn had to deal with, he did a masterful job. Zahn beautifully wraps up all the lame and loose ends the other writers left hanging: for example, he explains in REALISTIC terms what the deal with Lando and Mara was. And we finally learn why it took Luke and Mara ten years to finally get married.

Just like his other books, Zahn spins multiple plot lines and keeps the action non-stop. I did feel the action wasn't as well written as in his first trilogy, but it was certainly better written than all the other SW authors.

My only two real problems are that there are too many characters and too many plotlines to keep track of, creating a lack of flow. He'll focus on Luke and Mara for a while, and when he suddenly jumps back to Han and Lando I've forgotten what they were doing. Also, I feel like some of the subplots are only ideas Zahn forced up to give characters something to do. I mean, really, shouldn't Wedge and Corran be flying X-wings and not this cloak-and-blade stuff Zahn has them doing? I know this was supposed to be the grand finale to wrap up all the Bantam SW books, thus explaining all the characters, but I found it a little tiresome.

Some of the new characters are also disappointing. The whole Jorj Car'das thing started off very cool but had a very disappointing ending. I was really hoping for a more unsavory character, and the "battle" against the pirates adds nothing to the book.

However, other new characters, like the clone TIE pilots, are very cool, and I really enjoyed the Chiss parts. And the showdown at the end on the Star Destroyer is fantastic.

I don't think this is as good as his Thrawn trilogy, but this is one of the top five SW books out there.

Summary: Things are getting too weird...
Review: This was a good book, and a good read, and I guess I enjoyed it OK, as Star Wars novels go. But what is ruining the whole SW experience for me is how weird these Mara Jade Wannabes are getting. I like Mara Jade, too, and am always very pleased to read a book with her in it - but I liked her the way she WAS, a free spirit playing by her own rules. And I always envisioned Luke as going the way Obi-Wan went. Sorry, but the whole romance between them seems forced, and I get the distinct feeling that Zahn was writing the whole Luke/Mara angle singularly to please the "Star Ladies" or whatever goofy name they call themselves. These women are really, really weird - have you read some of thier reviews? Bunch of whackos. It makes me sad, really. I'm a girl, I love sci-fi, and I hate to see other women making such fools out of themselves over the genre. Grow up, and leave Zahn alone to write whatever he wants!

Summary: A great series and a good conclusion
Review: Like all Zahn books, this one was great. I had a hard time putting it down. The story left me with a curiosity for "The Evil" in the unknown regions. Maybe he will write about it in the future. I hope so...

I would truly recommend this book to anyone who wants a fast paced read with plenty of action and intrigue. Typical Zahn!

Summary: Finally, no more Empire
Review: A friend of mine encouraged me to read the Hand of Thrawn, and I did, and was not disappointed. Specter of the Past brought Zahn back to the top of the heap in Star Wars novels, putting to shame even the best by Stackpole and Anderson. This is a good conclusion to the duology, but it's quite drawn out and long. Specter moved fairly fast, and had Zahn's trademark political intigue heavily involved. In Vision, the loose ends of Luke and Mara, the Caamas document, and the Chiss are all tied to a nice, neat bow-tie, but Zahn takes his sweet time in tying them up. I mean, 700 pages? I don't mind a long book, but Zahn had chapters revolving around senate proceedings that seemed to go nowhere (or maybe it was that jerk Fey'lya. I hate that @SS.) If you don't mind a super-long read, or are drooling for the conclusion to an excellent Zahn storyline. However, if you are an action fan, this one isn't for you. Very good, though.
