Rating: Summary: great enhancement to the universe [no spoilers] Review: "Vision of the Future" is the final second novel in The Hand of Thrawn series approximately ten years following The Thrawn Trilogy. It concludes the story in the tradition of creativity and intrigue from the prior novels.Although the preceding novel has more political developments dominating the storyline, this book returns to creative battles and stunning revelations. The Mara Jade and Luke Skywalker duo along with Major Tierce and Admiral Pellaeon sections of the storyline are interesting. In addition, the use of High Councilor Leia Organa Solo's Jedi skill is exciting. I was aggravated when I calculated New Republic characters heading in four different directions searching for the same thing without consulting each other. Considering the closeness of the group such behavior is peculiar. A couple loose ends are available for future stories whereas one piece of information regarding Grand Admiral Thrawn could have been left alone to leave a greater mystery. I recommend this series to any fan of the Star Wars universe. Thank you.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Conclusion to the Thrawn Saga! Review: Vision of the Future is the second of the Hand of Thrawn Duology. Tim Zahn writes one of his best Star Wars novels to date. Filled with passion, adventure, intrigue and just plain fun, Vision of the Future concludes the excellent story begun by Spector of the Past. All our favorite characters return, with Mara Jade and Luke Skywalker off on a mysterious errand, while Han Solo and Lando Calrissian try to confirm the reports of a Reborn ADmiral Thrawn. Among the best parts of the story are those dealing with Admiral Pellaen as he strives to bring peace to the conflict torn galaxy. OVerall, a stand out effort by Zahn and clearly one of the best Star Wars books ever written.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Reading Review: Timothy Zahn gave it his best when he wrote the first three books in the Thrawn trilogy. Unfortunately, Vision of the Future falls a little short of expectations from the original Thrawn trilogy, but that is not to say that Vision of the Future is not a good novel. On the contrary, it surpasses most of the novels in the New Republic era of Star Wars. Zahn does a terrific job answering many questions that remained hanging during the New Republic era of the Star Wars universe. And to top it off, Luke finally finds his true love with Mara Jade. Their wedding is found in the comic novel Union. The reason why Vision of the Future is given four stars instead of five is that the threat to the New Republic is quite minimal compared to the original Thrawn trilogy. The novel is close to seven hundred pages long, and because of its mild imperial threat, the book could have been told in four or five hundred. Many characters did not need to be introduced, because they did not have any dramatic effect on the overall plot. Still, the narrative is well written, and the story overall was good enough to hold my interest. It is a decent ending to the New Republic era before the New Jedi Order begins.
Rating: Summary: Gripping climax to an action-packed "duology"! Review: First off, I must say I am a Star Wars fan. Secondly, I loved Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy" that kicked off the Star Wars "Extended Universe" many years ago. Therefore, I went into these books with a heavy bias. Having said that, I truly believe these books are amazing. Vision of the Future is particularly amazing. The closing 150 pages is one of the best literary juggling acts I've seen in a book. The various storylines each come to intertwining conclusions that leave you feeling especially satisfied. I could not put that book down as it came to a close. Obviously, read the first book (Spectre of the Past) first but it is well worth the relatively slow start. There is interesting character development in Luke Skywalker's persona and thankfully Timothy Zahn was able to bring Mara Jade along quite nicely. It was nice that her creator could bring her to the point where she is now. The rest of the cast, admittedly, faces one action-packed scene after another. Ultimately, these books are FUN!! They are a great read! Star Wars fans will love it. Non-Star Wars fans will find it difficult to grab ahold of without the prior knowledge that past books will give you. The funniest aspect has to be the raging coincidences that literally FILL the entire book. If you'll buy it, the Force does guide events, people, stuff in general, etc, but there's a wee bit of unbelievability (is that a word?). Take that belief though, and suspend it in the Force (or something more eloquent). You'll love the ride.
