Rating: Summary: Thank you, Zahn! Review: Oh . . . My . . . This book was the best, no question. Zahn is indeed the master entertainer. This book has everything a reader could want . . . solid characterization, startling revelations, exciting battles, long-awaited romance, heart-wrenching sacrifices, and dozens of new possibilities. I suggest putting on John Williams' classic Star Wars score, curling up somewhere comfortable, and reading it in one sitting. Few books can bring me to tears, but this one managed it more than once along the cleverly entwined plot. Zahn has done his work as no other could. Many will agree when I venture that some other Star Wars authors have made some errors in judgement in their characterization. Zahn not only brings the characters back on target, but manages to explain away a lot of the past straying of his fellow Star Wars authors. The only slight complaint I have is the cover art. Mara Jade does NOT look like that. I know, I know, it's a matter of personal opinion, but check out the cover of The Last Command. That was the first image I had of Mara, and it drives me crazy that the one on the cover of Visions of the Future is totally different. All that aside, this is definitely a masterpiece, the heart of the Star Wars collection, ladies and gents, Zahn has done it again.
Rating: Summary: The force is back. Review: Well, this book is the grandiose finale of BDD timeline, which we all hope will be continue by Del Ray. Since The Last Command, I was waiting for the moment where Luke and Mara would again confront. Not that it was a combat or anything, it was two people scarring themself of each other. Zahn also fixes a lot of plot lines that had went wrong. Bringning back character I care about (Kardde,Jade,*Thrawn* and Pelleon) while creating new. For example : Navett, unlike most imperial character created by other authors, he is a competent imperial agent. With all the subplots and action, this book is a masterpiece, comming equal with Heir To the Empire. Zahn is the man, let's hope he writes more Star Wars books in the near future.
Rating: Summary: The writer made a bad decision about Luke's future, IMHO. Review: I have read all of Zahn's Star Wars books and am very glad to have this chance to say something about it. I thought I had a good idea of where at least one aspect of this story was going. I hoped I was wrong but I was not. Luke made a decision about his life that I find unacceptable. I also am disturbed by the nonsense in the first book of this pair where Mara was 'anguishing' over Luke's 'showy' use of the Force. When did Luke show off? Over the course of the books and comics, most of the authors have given him appallingly little to do, if they don't all but ignore him.I think it's ridiculous to say that a Jedi can't use his/her powers. What would be the point of having that ability, then refusing to use it when it's needed? And yet, this seems to be what Mara is suggesting. I read the book in order to see this story through, but there are a number of other writers who did a much better job of portraying the main characters. I don't feel that this book adds that much to the Star Wars universe, and, frankly, I wish it had come out in paperback. I am a collector as well as a reader so I had to get the first edition even if I'm not all that impressed by Zahn's writing. I cannot recommend spending the money on a hardcover unless you are a collector like me.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read-A Must for Fans and Non Fans alike. Review: Vision of the Future is the Thrilling Concrusion to Zahn's second Star Wars series. The book, which is wonderfully written answers many questions, inlcuding will peace or war be the future of the New Republic. I would recomend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Great book I could read it over and over Review: First I Have to correct my colleague with the mistake of Saying that Mara Jade and Luke Skywalker have sex, They don't. Londo also does not get killed. But Luke and Mara doe decide to get married. And Thrawn after the book may also come back. And also Karrde becomes a respectable person in this at the end. I do think Rogue Squadron and the Camaasi Elegos shoould've gotten more play. Any way it was a great book
Rating: Summary: This is the absolute best book I have read since Specter Review: I love this book. I've been waiting a year for this book to come out and it didn't let me down. I just wish it wasn't so short.....520 pages? I'd perfer more like 1000..but it doesn't matter. It rules.
Rating: Summary: Avoid All Spoilers for this Book Review: I would like to warn any reader who wants to fully experience all the wonderful surprises and discoveries that are contained in this superb novel to AVOID SPOILERS AT ALL COSTS. Do not read or listen to any information about the contents of this book until you have read it for yourself. (Which means do not read any of the other reviews on this page; some have spoilers, and one is even 100% lies. I don't know what book that person thought they were reviewing.) Furthermore, DO NOT READ AHEAD. At times the suspense is so powerful that temptation to read ahead will be almost unbearable, but you must not fall to the Dark Side. Trust me, you'll thank me when you finish it.
Rating: Summary: It's a Stellar Romp with some of your oldest friends.... Review: Zahn is a master of his craft. He grabs you on page one and propels you forward into an uncertain future; where your Old Pals in the Galaxy Far Far Away are ready to greet you, amid blaster fire and political machinery. And you will recognise these folks; for the first time in years. Han, Leia, Luke, and the rest of the bunch all sound the way you remember them. You can almost hear the music and smell the popcorn! Excepting Lucas himself, no one else writes these characters like Zahn can. But the best thing about a book is its STORY, and the author delivers, in spades. Zahn has an uncanny ability to piece together complex plotwork with remarkable deftness. The storylines are nearly seamless, flowing smoothly into a masterful tapestry of insightful dialogue, rousing action sequences, and warm, believable characterisations. I will not spoil the story for you. But when I closed the last page of VISION OF THE FUTURE myself, I felt something I haven't felt at the end of a starwars novel for some time...Complete, total, satisfaction. Zahn gives the reader every single credit's worth, on every single page. Five stars out of Five- I'd give it more were they an option. Buy it, read it. Love it. I know you will.
Rating: Summary: well... Review: the only good thing about this book is that luke FINALLY getslaid , big time. But it's typical Zhan trash. story's boring , andunimaginative. I read on one of his other books that someone said his inability to work with what the other authors wrote. I could.nt have said it better my self. spare us zhan , you got lucky by bieg the first to write a star wars "sequel" , that's all , otherwise youre the worst star wars author.
