Summary: An excellent read!
Review: Zahn has done it again. Mara, Karrde, and Pellaeon are back in their true form as believable characters. Zahn focuses on an intelligent, complex plot and good characterization instead of just describing ships and battles. (Although the battles are well done.) I loved the ending.

Summary: Zahn captures essence of Star Wars
Review: Tim Zahn brings the awesome five-book series to a very satisfying close. Not only is he an author who contrives some of the most unexpected (yet plausible) plot twists, but his character development is real and enjoyable. He raises (and answers!) some of the harder questions pertaining to the Force beyond the "light side," "dark side" dilemma and in doing so lifts Luke and Mara from the sometimes misunderstood status of Jedi gurus to real people. Only Zahn can get Mara right; any author who attempts to mess with this will undergo certain Imperial punishments....

Summary: Good material, poor abridgement...
Review: As a professional driver, I rarely have time to actually sit and read a book; that's one reason I started buying audio performances of books, especially the Star Wars series. _Specter_ was a decent audio production, and I did wind up buying the print version. While I enjoyed both the book and the tapes, I find that the abridgements tend to edit out material which, more often than not, becomes fairly central in later books. I have to wonder if this is accidental or a sales tool...

Summary: One of the best Star Wars originals.
Review: Timothy Zahn is one of the best writers of the Star Wars original novels, and this book shows his stuff. One of the biggest problems with the Star Wars novel series is that different authors will take characters created by other authors to use in their own books. Probably the best exsample of how this doesn't work is with Zahn's own Mara Jade. She's been used by at least 6 different authors, and been written as a different character each time. In wiriting this book, Zahn only used Corrin Horn, star of I, Jedi, as a main character he didn't create, and only then because he is a personal friend of Michael Stackpole. The bottom line is: This is a great book with much more realistic characters than some of the other books out there. If you are a Star Wars fan, read it.

Summary: Thank you Zahn! Finally!
Review: I'm only sorry that I'm limited to five stars... this book deserves all the stars in the universe! After years of waiting, and constant dissapointment, I'm thrilled that zahn came out with two more breathtaking, amazing, books. Zahn's stories are the best, mainly because he shows other sides. I'm SICK of a new super weapon, everytime I open a book (Death Stars, Sun Crushers, the eye of palpatine) Zahn shows that, the empire's leaders are not all 'rule by fear', 'Big bad planet destroying weapons' control freaks. He shows that Thrawn almost defeated the new republic with brains not braun, and I like that. It makes the book more interesting. What better opponent can you imagine, than a genius who can predict your every move. It adds suspense to the story. I am a HUGE Mara Jade fan, and like most other Mara Jade fans, I am pleased with the end result. (though I'd have to agree with another reveiw that there is NO passion between the two) Zahn is the best SW author as far as I'm concerned, most other authors have more or less butchered Mara's character, and thank you Mr. Zahn for correcting all of their mistakes. After a while I got bored with Luke being seen as the Jedi version of a 'bible thumper', as I said earlier the whole new and more destructive superweapon thing, and mara's character being neglected.

Summary: A great finale for Bantam
Review: This is the book I have been waiting for since the day I first opened the cover of Truce at Bakura, because of the most significant part of the ending. Since the moment that Gariel Captison decided she didn't want to be with Luke, I've had a serious following to find out who would. At the end of Darksaber it looked like it would end up being Callista (oh dear heavens no), but now I am satisfied. In a way, it's the end of an era for me.

Kinda wierd, huh, because it's the end of an era period. This was a great book for Bantam to go out on because A) Zahn wrote it (need I say more), and B) it tied up all the loose ends and incorporated every single one of the novels or trilogies of Star Wars (except for the Bounty Hunters and Wraith squadron, but only because they're still finishing). For me, it put everything that has happened into good perspective.

Summary: A beautiful ending, if slightly disappointing
Review: This book showed me what I loved about Tim Zahn's work. After seeing Pellaeon and Mara tossed about in other books (_Darksaber_, _The Jedi Academy Trilogy_), I was starting to see them as annoying gits who couldn't control their own lives. It wasn't until I read _Spectre of the Past_ that I remembered how smart Pellaeon actually was (the poor man suffers from the same problem that Dr. Watson did)and how calm and cool Mara was. I was a bit disappointed that Thrawn didn't come back, but I liked the way that Zahn ended the battle between the Empire and the Republic, and the way that he pointed out the other dangers in the galaxy. One wonders if that might not be the plot of the 3rd set of movies...

Summary: Very good, I couldn't put it down!
Review: This book was an excellent sequel to "Specter of the Past". It grabbed me right from the beginning. I was so excited to finally find out what had happened in this series of adventures. It was really well written, several different stories were going on at once and each story was just as important as another. I was not once lost or confused. It was a great book. I've got to say that this book was even better than its predecessor (Specter of the Past). It was a lot faster paced and much more intriguing. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sci-fi. Just make sure you read "Specter of the Past" first for maximum enjoyment and understanding!

Summary: FINALLY!
Review: Tim Zahn, you are the man! All the answers to my questions about previous books were answered. Luke and Mara are perfect for each other. They are both strong in the force and obviously their kids are going to be also. Whoever wrote that about Mara Jade looking nothing like that is totally right. Any author who messes up this perfect masterpiece that Zahn has created will be terminated. You Star Wars guys have definetly got a winner here. P.S. When is the movie of this book gonna be made. Hint! Hint!
