Rating: Summary: Amazingly compelling Review: The Hand of Thrawn books where the first star wars books Ive read, and I would like to say that they got me hooked. Zahn's knowledge of the star wars universe is amazing. The first Thrawn trilogy where equally as good. Just for giving us characters such as Mara Jade, Talon Karrde, Booster Terrick, and not to mention Thrawn, Vision of the Future along with all the other books by Zahn qualify as the best Ive ever read.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ Review: Thsi is the exiting conclusion to Timothy Zahn's book Specter of the Past. Very worthy of the name STAR WARS. Zahn gives new life to Star Wars novels
Rating: Summary: The best book I ever read Review: Thi is absolutely the best book ever. Zahn has done it once again. He brought the characters back to life. I warn people that heva not read this book(although they should) do not read a hed because of spoilers. It ruined the suprise ending for me. I loved this book. they way Zahn wrote was amazing. The way he brought Mara and Luke together was just...i don't know, but it was cool. It was such a drastic change from the other STARWARS books(I won't name names). This book was so much better. The plot change was so cool.
Rating: Summary: Very good, but... Review: This review will generally touch on both of the books in the series. I'd say, overall, the writing is the equal of Zahn's "Heir to the Empire" series--that is to say, it's a very fast and fun read (I finished both novels in less than a week).I'd also like to say that Zahn's novels are the best Star Wars novels on the market, but that certainly isn't saying much. What prevented me from giving these books five stars is the fact that Zahn does a terrible job of preserving the integrity of the personalities of characters from the movies. Ironically enough, he writes the original characters so poorly that the ones of his creation tend to be more compelling. In my opinion, he takes far too many liberties in his expansions of the Force/Jedi concepts (and with all the history and baggage he gives Luke Skywalker in the time period following "The Last Command" and preceeding "Specter of the Past"). Also, the dialogue is highly mediocre. Nonetheless, I'd recommend these strongly to any Star Wars fan who's able to overlook the flaws I mentioned. Between Zahn's ingenius plots, exciting scenes and sequences, and spell-binding military and politcal intrigue, I found the flaws highly "overlookable".
Rating: Summary: not really a review, but a pre-review Review: of what i have seen from the responses, it looks to be an at least worthwhile book (and since it the last of the Bantam series-along with Spector of the Past-I am definitely going to get it). The bad part that I find about Mara's and Lukes relationship is that it was blatantly obvious in Zahn's original 3book series that there was something there, but later other writers got Lando and Mara together, and not Lando is where?? with who?? I am happy that they got together, and Callista was definitely horrible (as were the books she was in) but I think they should have gotten together earlier. But hey, it's cool and I'm getting them both. And I'm happy to hear there are 500+ pages cuz that's more reading-maybe even 1000 in the series which is great.
Rating: Summary: Nobody could have done better. Review: Timothy Zahn faced a tough task. Much has happened in the Star Wars novels since his monumental "Heir to the Empire" trilogy. Many fans, myself among them, have not been pleased with many of the events which have transpired in books published since then. Too many authors have twisted the characters and continuity to points beyond recognition causing a substantial amount of chaos in the Star Wars universe. Readers such as myself have been clamoring for Zahn, Stackpole and other excellent authors to step in and set things right after suffering through the painfully insipid musings of Anderson, Hambly, etc ... This book fixes as much of the mess as possible. For one thing, the Luke and Mara situation was resolved to my satisfaction. Sure, it was a bit awkward but the result was long overdue. Because of this, I was sporting a Cheshire Cat-like grin for days after finishing the book. So, is "Vision of the Future" perfect? No, not quite. The book ended too soon and a few subplots could have been explored and resolved in greater detail. This leads me to believe that this duology would have been better off as a trilogy. I figure it would have taken only another 200 to 250 pages of additional material to fill a third volume. It's a shame this was not to be. Overall, however, nobody could have done a better job of setting things straight. Thank you Mr. Zahn!
Rating: Summary: This is a MUST read Review: Now that episode I is out, this book seems like the end of the SW epic, which it should not be. The book is excellent and puts a very good ending to the story of Luke Skywalker and his "settling down". It flows from the other stories by various authors and doesn't contradict them too much nor does it leave too many unanswered questions. Next to Jedi Academy, this is a great book on "what finally happens".... a must read for all SW fans.
Rating: Summary: Excelent book Review: This is a great book! Zhan is the master! If you really think about it the Imperials won. The Empire has more systems then they started with. The New Republic can't take them away becaus of the peace treaty(though some can still leave). The Empire has a chance to get back on its feet. The New Republic is far more unstable. Do you really think just becaus the Camasi thing is over there all going to be nice to each other? If you believe that look at Kosovo, Irsland, Pakistan + India, the Koreas etc. The only problem is that other people in the galaxy aren't going to like the treaty and try what the Rebelion did. Thrawn can still come back. He thought of all contingincies remember? Pelleon and Thrawn our two of my favorite characters. A great book as I said. Hail the Empire!!!
Rating: Summary: Good finish to the Bantam Siries Review: This was a good read. The end was to expected, though
Rating: Summary: Zahn is back and better than ever!! Review: I really liked this book. I think that this is the series that puts everything together that a lot of people have been waiting for, especially me. I thought that the whole thing with Karrde was really interesting. I also liked 3-PO having adventures with some other than the usual gang. I missed Chewie a bit. I mean what would Star Wars be without a big furball to keep Han in line when Leia's not there, but then he has a family too. This book put Han right back where he belongs... in the middle of an adventure, Lando too. In other books it seems like a lot of characters that would be usfull were forgotten, like Tendra. Lando is not my favorite character, but I liked to see him back in action. My favorite part of the book was the whole Luke and Mara thing. I really wanted to see those two go on another adventure together, and I got my wish plus a little extra. I really wanted those two to get together, because I think that they are perfect for one another. In one review, someone said that Luke had that same bond with Callista... he didn't. They never had a bond, right after she had switched bodies with Cray, she lost her connection to the Force. Before that she had just been in his dreams. I read the exerpt from the new book and I almost cried too. In short I haven't had a SW book to praise like this since Zahn's first three.
