Rating: Summary: A let down after "Hero's Trial" Review: I really thought that this book's predecessor "Hero's Trial" (also by Jim Luceno) was an entertaining, fun read but this book was really a let down. He did his Star Wars homework, and for that I'm grateful, but this book seemed so rushed and thrown together. Another NJO disappointment.
Rating: Summary: Enough of the depressing War, Let's turn the tide! Review: I love the Star Wars series. I have read every book in the series and I was really excited when they started the NJO Series. But I am now getting depressed by all that is going on. I understand the need for a worthy opponent, but enough already. Is the New Republic that fought and overcame the Empire gone for good? This book keeps continuing on the depressing nature of the war with the Yuuzhan Vong. The plot is shallow and the storyline has much to be desired. I'm ready for a book with deeper character development. It doesn't seem like any of the characters we've grown to love are growing and changing. This book is written for action only. I think it's about time to explore the characters, places, and the force that make Star Wars so unique. I would only read this book if you want to know the events that happen in this part of the series. Otherwise, skip this one and go right to Balance Point.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good read Review: I am not a big fan of the New Jedi Order. In fact, up until hero's trial I could find very little to cheer about. This has changed with the last two books. Maybe it's because I am a big Han Solo fan and I am just thrilled to have him back in the action. Or maybe it's because Luceno has a more accessible writing style. Whatever the reason, I really liked this book. The characters seemed dead-on and being a fan of ESB I really enjoy those "dark" endings. Plenty of loose ends which will make the reader await Tyer's "Balance POint" with a baited breath. I can't wait.
Rating: Summary: Good new story lines, but characters have become wimps Review: I thought hero's trial was one of the best star wars books written, but like other reviewers, the sequel jumped around to much without focusing on a story line and making progress with it. jacen solo(i'm starting to like the kids more and more when they were toddlers) complains about not using the force EVERY TIME he is talking. I also thought the escape scene with droma and han off the corperate planet really dragged out. millions have died, planet after planet is being wiped out, and nothing is being done by the republic! they are not the same people we knew in the original series. we need to write tycho, wedge, ackbar, bel ibis, and the other heroes back into the books. i like how the series is taking a very different turn, but every chapter we hear about a planet being lost. and this is only book 5 of a 20-some book series! how are the authors going to strecth this that long? coruscant is obviously going to be wiped out with the rest of the core worlds, so how is this going to play out? after reading this book (and the first half of balance point), my obsession with star wars novels is the only thing that keeps me interested. don't get me wrong, i loved the previous 4 books, but the good guys need to win at least once and awhile to keep us riveted to see a battle ot the death. not a mindless slaughter. (anakin should have fired centerpoint, it would have been intersting to see the vongs impressions of centerpoints power wiping out a large portion of their fleet.) of course, buy this book if you have already read thefirst one, but be warned it is not the same quality as heroes trial. and waht's this about not going on the offensive when you are a jedi? did luke forget that that was exactly what he did against the empire (and obi wan before him)? letting planets be destroyed and staying on the defensive is not the way of the jedi we have been told it should in the past 23 years. action has become neccassary, not small spy groups. (i am guessing in the next 2 books that coruscant will battle for it's very existence. it also dawned on me that admiral thrawn knew of their existence, and that was the reason he planted clone cells allo ver the galaxy, as a last line of defense. so let luke go back to the hidden fortress where he and mara destroyed a clon of thrawn, and create a new one. this would be the only person capable of understanding the enemy(he could treat the tattos on the vongs as artwork)it is time to see some action, not diverting refugees from planet to planet.
Rating: Summary: Make sure you have a dictionary handy!! Review: This book was not as good as the first in the "Agents of Chaos" duology, but it did tie up a lot of qeustions and concluded nicely. My only problem with this book was the fact that Luceno wrote this book with help of a quantum physisist, it seems. It felt like I had to reach for a dictionary every other page. Maybe I'm just slower than most. All in all, though, not a bad read. I can't wait for "Balance Point" to come in!
Rating: Summary: Terrible to follow Review: While I enjoyed Jedi Eclipse quite a bit. I found this book lacking in a few areas. The plot jumps quite a bit, while covering many adventures at once this is to be expected, but it just seemed choppy to me. Leaving off at a important point might be considered suspenseful, but too much of it leaves a bad aftertaste and slows down the read. The author really goes overboard on Jacen Solo's inability to do just about anything, the only thing I got from his portrayal of Jacen was that he whines, alot. It's annoying to not see any progress from that character except that he whines more in every novel. The lack of Luke and Mara were sore points also. Also there was no real interaction between the Ryn and his clan after he found them. I mean come on, you make a major storyline in the plot about this guy finding his clan, and when he does, nothing is shown, not his joy, relief, sadness etc...very sad close on that plotline. The space battles were not well written, it was kinda confusing about what was really going on all over. I enjoy reading and re-reading my star wars novels, and this is the worst example of a space battle I have laid eyes on. Book was lacking, I cant recommend it to anyone. I suppose if you read the first, you should read this one to close it out. I for one will not be purchasing another Luceno novel set in the star wars universe.
Rating: Summary: What's with the title? Review: While I liked this book because it takes place in the Star Wars universe, it didn't live up to the other books in the New Jedi Order series. Many elements in the plot seem too unbelievable (i.e. do you really think that Han and Leia would go so long without talking? She's a diplomat and they both have hot tempers, they are sure to blow up at each other one of these days...) And what was with leaving Mara completely out of the book? The breakthrough at the end of the last one when she was healed was great, but it was basically ignored in this book. We only got Luke's comments on it and nothing about how she was feeling. Also, was it just me, or did this book have very little to do with the Jedi? They were too much of a subplot to have the title refer to them. Anyway, maybe I just want to see Mara and Corran back in action. :-)
Rating: Summary: Not bad, but... Review: Jedi Eclipse is a pretty good novel, but I guess I was expecting more. I thought that Hero's Trial was great, so the conclusion must be even better, right? Well, I don't think this one measures up to its predecessor. Many parts were great. I thought the Han-Droma breakout was great. Even Wurth Skidder and the yammosk was good. The best, however, is the last chapter with its stunning revelation that makes you wish James Luceno would've kept the story going. I didn't really care for the Centerpoint Station's role or the Hapans' parts in the novel. Centerpoint just seemed a little too convenient. This book is a worthy addition to the New Jedi Order, and I'm looking forward to more of James Luceno's writings. This book is worth your time to read.
Rating: Summary: We Will Get There? Review: At least we're back on the Falcon again. Han is back to the days of old and I'm talking before Leia. He and his new found friend are what makes this book work for me. I like the humor and their sarcastic remarks toward one another. They pair up perfectly. Luke, Mara, and Jaina have better things to do or they are not worthy of reading about anymore. It makes you wonder if anything more could go wrong with the New Republic. How they could bungle up so badly and still be there. I find myself wanting the Emperor back, because you know he would have had a way of dealing with the Vong. If the books intent was to leave you hanging for the next book, Balance Point, it has a done a fine job. I can't wait. Star Wars fans, you have to read it. If you're like me, you can't get enough of it.
Rating: Summary: Great conclusion Review: Jedi Eclipse is a great book. If you are star wars book reader - (have read all or almost all the books leading up to the invasion) then you will love this book. It reintroduces old characters you thought you'd never read about again. This book also widens the confrontation between the Vong and the Republic. After reading the book you'll get the feeling that bad things and huge revelations are yet to come. You must read this book.
