Rating: Summary: Storytelling the way it should be Review: Kristen Britain does a wonderful job balancing character and plot development. Even her one-appearance, gone-on-the-next page characters have depth to them. The story is so enjoyable, you forget you have been reading way past your bedtime! Her description of Karigan's world is so vivid, you can picture it in your mind. There is plenty of adventure and excitement to keep you on the edge of your seat. I hope that Karigan and the Green Riders come back in another book soon.
Rating: Summary: a classic fantasy Review: this book falls into the classic fantasy mold with the young headstrong girl, karigan, on a quest to save family and kingdom. the rich culture and background that britain developes is amazing. the green riders are messangers who risk life and limb to carry out their orders. the characters in this work are beautiful and complex which made me smile as i watched them change at each turn.i would definetly recommend this book for any reader of fantasy but definetly for newbies. though this isn't an epic fantasy series it's light and a fun read and a complete page turner. read on and enjoy with a smile.
Rating: Summary: A Good Read! Review: For a first book, this was an excellent debut. When I bought the book I hadn't hoped for much but as I began reading I couldn't put it down! It was in the wee hours of the morning that I finally finished it. The book never slowed down in its tale of good vs evil and the heroinne was very believeable. I would recommend this book to any who love tales of sword & sorcery.
Rating: Summary: An impressive debut Review: This promising debut has all the right ingredients: a well-paced plot, a likable heroine, and some surprising twists. After 100 pages, I found myself turning the pages almost faster than I could read them. What mars Britain's first novel, however, is her rather pedestrian writing style. (Writing a back-cover blurb comparing the author with Tolkien, Marion Zimmer Bradley simply embarrasses herself.) The number of sentences beginning with inert phrases (It was... It had... There would... This was...) is nearly deadening, especially in the opening descriptive passages. Nevertheless, as the action intensifies, Britain's writing style seems to mature (or perhaps I was too caught up in the story to be annoyed any longer). Readers of fantasy novels will undoubtedly enjoy this novel, in spite of its occasionally static prose. And I, for one, can't wait for the sequel.
Rating: Summary: More Kristen Britain, please. Review: I read this a year or so ago and thought it was wonderful. Nicely developed world, an original protagonist, excellent plotting. I've been waiting and waiting to see something else from Ms. Britain. Where the heck has she gone?
Rating: Summary: Fun Fun Fun Review: I love this book, I been waiting two years for the sequel and just found out it is to be released in 2003. What a bummer. I truly loved this book. It takes a lot for me to say that because I am not an avid reader. I find it hard to even finish reading a book. I finished this one is nothing flat.
Rating: Summary: Really Good Review: I really liked this book, but I am sitting here WAITING for a sequal. All of my friends have read it and love it, but everyone thinks (and I agree) that it has a cliffhanger ending. There are a few unresolved things, and I REALLY WANT THE SEQUAL!!!!!
Rating: Summary: ALMOST all I can say is... WOW! Review: I could hardly put it down! This was a great story. I really enjoyed reading about Karigan's adventures. The only problem that I had with the book was that it ended. I wish that Ms. Britain had written another book to add to Karigan's story... That there was more to the story was hinted at, so I'm really hoping to see another book about Karigan from Ms. Britain. For a debut book, this was awesome! Keep it up, Ms. Britain!
Rating: Summary: A Great Book, but close to Others... Review: I recently picked up this book simply because I had nothing else to read and was bored. After I was done, I was tearing through bookstores to try and find it. I must admit that, though it was a wonderful read, I could see borrowed elements (such as Eletians, as others have mentioned). The main character, Karigan, was a relief from Clive Anderson's male protagonists ( I had recently finished Anderson's "Inca Gold", and was tired of the constant action). Karigan showed many elements of past heroines, but was unique and fun to read about, how she adapted to becoming a Green Rider. Green Riders were another fun part of this book, and so were Britain's original Weapons. All in all, I think this was an exceptional book, now added to my collection. It could have been a little more original, but I was impressed nonetheless with her work. I hope she decides to write more books like this one. *looking back on this, it seems really small compared to other posts... Oh well*
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: I know I'm taking a chance when I buy books by unknown authors but it's like a new restaurant, you don't know unless you try it. I agree the characters need a little more "character" but the plot is more creative than other books that have fully fleshed out characters. I was left to wonder where the story might go after I finished the book. I went looking for the sequel but got to leave a review instead. Please read and enjoy!
