Summary: A great book!
Review: I think Green Rider is a wonderful fantasy novel. It is now one of my favorites.

Summary/A bit of a spoiler:

-Green Rider is about a girl named Karigan G'ladheon , who runs away from her school in Selium after getting suspended from school for winning a fight against the heir of the lord-governor of Mirwell Providence. Karigan encounters a dying young man slumped over his horse with 2 black-shafted arrows pierced through his back. His name is F'ryan Cobblebay, he tells her that he is a messenger for the King, a Green Rider.

His words to Karigan: "The satchel on the saddle... important message for... king. Life or death. If you love Sacor... Sacoridia and its king, take it. Take it to him."

She felt terrified and wanted to run, but she also felt that she needed to help. She agrees with reluctance and swears to him that she will give King Zachary the important message. He gives her his brooch, which will identify her as a messenger.

F'ryan's last words to her: "Beware the shadow man."

The silent ghost of F'ryan tries to help her out as much as possible. Assassins are trying to hunt her down for Cobblebay's important message to the King. Her brooch helps her out with her first encounter with some assassins by making her invisible. The magic from the brooch accepts her as a Green Rider. A long the way during each part of her adventure she meets different sorts of people that give her encouragement such as 2 friendly sisters, an Eletian(an elf), etc...

There are some of those that are not what they appear to be...

This book is filled with adventure, action, magic, intrigue, and a bit of romance which will probably develop more in Britain's second book about the Green Riders!

Summary: I Liked It
Review: Britain never lets the reader get bored as Karigan attempts to deliver her all imporant message. A plus in most ways but by skipping over some of her days on the road may leave you asking yourself with some sarcasim "What else can happen to this girl?" and feeling like it was all too compacted.
A previous reviewer said that the book contained too many cliches of fantesy writing, I agree and disagree. Although there is nothing ecspecially new few books are ever innovative. The "cliches" are not as obvious as the reviewer made them out to be and are fairly well worked.
Overall a very fun read but, don't expect too much more.

Summary: Yep, It's a Fantasy Novel
Review: Karigan G'Ladheon has been expelled from school for fighting the son of a local aristocrat and winning. On her way home in a huff, she literally stumbles across a dying King's Messenger (or Green Rider)who with his last breath makes Karigan swear that she will deliver the message that got him killed. Of course she does, and thus begins her ride through the wilds of Sacoridia, where she is pursued by all kinds of foes and occasionally helped out by the good guys on her way to the capital.

This book has, in my opinion, received excessively high ratings from most of the reviewers here. To a reader who appreciates thinking and original fantasy, _The Green Rider_ might merit two and a half stars, but certainly no more. In the first place, it is extremely derivative. Every fantasy cliche one could ever hope never to see again is present here: the Naive Child Taking on a Task that Will Change Her Life; The Ancient Evil Awakening; The Reluctant but Oddly Capable Monarch; The Dissatisfied Noble; The Monarch's Tyrannical and Scheming Brother; The Legendary Race of Elf-Analogs; The Obligatory Environmental Message; The Revolutionary Agitator and more ad nauseam. The worst part is that most of these cliches are jammed into the first 100-odd pages, giving the initial portion of the book an extremely disjointed feel as the reader keeps searching for some sign of plot progression only to be thwarted again and again. To its credit the novel actually does manage to incorporate most -- but not all-- of these cliches into a relevant plot by the end of the book. But as a whole _Green Rider_ reads like Anne McCaffrey meets Mercedes Lackey meets Terry Brooks, only not so good as any of those.

Taking an innocent (or ignorant) character through a journey across an unknown land is not an inherently bad device for a novel and it's been used to great effect by writers I enjoy and respect. The problem here is that neither the land nor the journey is unique enough to make it interesting. The characters and the situations are stock. There were several times that I saw an opportunity to add a startling or at least unpredictable turn of events, but the turn was never taken and characters who could have been interesting simply fell by the wayside, making me think they'd only appeared to serve the latest cliche. In addition, every character was so under developed that reading this book was like watching a really bad cartoon.

Aside from the occasional trite metaphor, Ms. Britain is not a bad writer. I did find some of the middle portions of the book really engaging. Unfortunately, the flow was inevitably interrupted by yet another cliche that went nowhere.

There are two real points in this book's favour: At the end, Karigan did not do the expected thing and the book really did end without too many of those loose threads that make a sequel de rigeur. That's fortunate, since _Green Rider_ was released in 1998 and Ms Britain's next book is scheduled for 2003. Let's hope she spent the intervening time developing the world and the people in it.

Summary: Captivating and Thrilling!
Review: After seeing the book in stores for many months, I finally decided to give it a try. I sat down and read the entire book in one day!

From the beginning you are drawn into the tale of Karigan - a merchant's daughter who is suspended from school. On her way home she encounters a mysterious messenger who makes her take an oath that she will deliver his life or death message. the rider then dies, two arrows in his back.

THE GREEN RIDER captivates you from the beginning and doesn't let you go. There is endless adventure and intrigue, as the deeper plot is slowly revealed as Karigan's journey proceeds.

This book is a definite must read! I can't wait for the sequel!

Summary: Fast paced!
Review: This book is about a perfectly normal girl who has been suspended from school for beating the mayors son in a sword match, after he repeatly teased her since the day she arrived. She runs away from the school, trying to reach home before the letter does so she can tell her father her side of the story. On the way she meets a dying Green Rider who begs her to bring the note he is carrying to the king, and that it is a life of death matter. She promises and the man warns her that she will be followed. Then he dies. The horse seems to know the best way to go, and leads her along. But from all sides she is pursed, and the enemy seems to be everywhere. This wonderful story told by a completely normal, yet intelligent girl is exciting, and fast paced with adventure at every turn a horrible plot that will effect thewhole kingdom. This is 'wonderful fast paced book.
