Summary: A Book to re-read many times
Review: I thought this book was fabulous! The characters were intrgueing, and the style of writing was smooth. I read it in one sitting, and i would recommend it to anyone who likes a fantasy story with finesse. Furthermore, it is left open ended.... maybe there will be a sequel! I hope so.... the basic events that occur in the story are the following: Karigan runs into a dying Green Rider(people who work for the king by carrying messages) and agrees to take his message to the king. As she rides along, she runs into all sorts of problems, from black magic to debauched old men. READ IT!

Summary: Not very good
Review: This book had an interesting premise, but the writing is not very good, and the characterizations are sort of flat. I fell victim to the Locus ads that praised this as the most acclaimed fantasy debut of the year. What nonsense. The offerings of both Juliet McKenna and Elizabeth Haydon were far more impressive and got better reviews. I will not read the sequel.

Summary: What Fantasy Escapism is all about!
Review: If you read to be entertained and to escape the daily routine of life, then this is an excellent book to read! Yes, it is fairly predictable and classic in the good-vs-evil department, but, for me, this is the beauty of it. No unwanted surprises in language or overtones. Uncomplicated pure fantasy! I was caught up in the story very quickly and found it enjoyable reading all the way though. I look forward to more from Ms. Britain! I have passed this book on to my 12 year old daughter without any worries over any inappropriate content.

Summary: Amateurish and cliched
Review: I agree with the Amazon reviewer--this book is WAY over praised. It's not the worst I've ever read, but it is very rough and the writing clunks. The plot is not bad, and it is written in the same breathless style as Terry Goodkind's books, but without whatever it is the makes his stuff passable. Personally I prefer fantasy with more brain and less cliche [The Gray One, etc.] It would be nice to have a realism test when one buys a book--Marion Zimmer Bradley has crowned so many authors "the new Tolkien" and so many books "classics" that to me that is a sure sign that I will be disappointed. If it was more appropriately portrayed--"a good first offering by a new writer" or something like that, it would not cause so much eye rolling later on. Ad departments, take note--you oversold this one by a LOT.

Summary: The Best Novel Ever!
Review: Green Rider was the best fantasy novel I have ever read. I am an avid reader and I couldn't put it down. I stayed up till midnight reading it the first day I got it. I hope her next novel is even better!

Summary: an OK first novel
Review: This wasn't that bad...it just wasn't that good either. As a first novel, the writing was better than average, but the plot and other story elements were nothing new. You will probably enjoy this book if you have not read that much fantasy; if you have, it will probably seem to drag on a bit. This should probably have been published as a YA paperback. You have to force your disbelief down with both hands to accept that teenage Karigan could have accomplished what she did. I think it is a shame that unpolished novels appear in hardcover while rare gems like Jane Lindskold's "Changer" only come out in paperback.

Summary: I wanted MORE...
Review: This is a captivating story. It is very fast paced and won't lose your attention. This story starts by imediately dropping you into the plot. There's no boring background or lead in. It is all explained as the story unfolds. I hoped the book would never end. But alas, I got to the last page. Please hurry and write a follow up story Kristen! :-)
