Summary: Strong Debut Novel
Review: I think Kristen Britain did a great job with this novel. There were some predictable elements but overall a strong fantasy story. I was particularly enjoyed the fact Britain did not have Karigan find her one, true love in the story. That has gotten so old. The characters are strongly written and the writing action filled.

Summary: I read it 3 times within two weeks of getting it
Review: I was walking through my local bookstore when I spotted the beautiful cover of this book. I read the inside cover and decided it was a must read. As soon as I got my hands on it I couldn't put it down. It was all I had expected and more.

Green Rider tells the tale of a young woman who begins to come into her own. It is an adventure story that begins with Karigan honoring the wishes of a dying Rider. The possibility of adventure spurs her onward, but all too soon she realizes the dangers and sleepless nights that true adventures come with. Along her journey she meets many interesting characters, some who come to her aid and others who do not. She gets out of the thickest of situations operating on "pure spunk" and determination with a little bit of backing from her friends along the way.

Green Rider is not your traditional fantasy story in that it revolves around one main character and is very self contained while leaving room for future sequels. It is a refreshing change from other book that end with an abrupt cliffhanger. Britain shows the assistance people must have in order to lead and succeed.

Britain creates engrossing characters, both "good" and "bad," aside from Karigan, the heroine. In example, one of the anagonists (a semi-major character) is shown to have been lead astray by choices she made for love. Honor keeps her true to her prince, even when he is cruel to her. She shows compassion, hatred, and many other emotions towards Karigan and the other characters.

Summary: A promising beginning for a new author
Review: _Green Rider_ is not an overly original book, but it doesn't need to be. Britain makes her characters likeable enough that one can overlook the similarities in plot and style between _Green Rider_ and Mercedes Lackey's early books (The Last Herald-Mage series particularly) among others. The first half of the book follows a fairly predictable plot: our adolescent protagonist runs into something larger than herself and somewhat reluctantly agrees to take on a quest. The second half improves considerably; the original elements Britain uses in Sacor City lead me to believe that her next book will offer a more innovative plot.

_Green Rider_ is not the book for Jordan and Goodkind fans; it has a smaller focus and fewer lead characters. The protagonist, Karigan, is an especially believable character and a good example for adolescent girls. This book should really resonate with younger (12-20 years) female readers of fantasy fiction who may have been unable to relate to the myriad farmboy-turns-lost-prince stories available.

Readers who enjoyed _Green Rider_ might want to check out Anne Lesley Groell's Cloak and Dagger series or Kate Forsyth's Witches of Eileanan series for more young, strong, female protagonists.

Summary: I Agree With Melissa From Detroit
Review: I totally agree with Melissa. The book is good, but the romantic elements were missing. And (not to give anything away) the ending didn't really fit. I was a bit disappointed by the ending. But it was a great page turner, I couldn't stop reading. And yes, Melissa, I too believe the king was romantically interested in Kerigan, you are not alone in this.

Summary: Green Rider
Review: Green Rider is a very good starter for a fantasy novel. I really enjoyed the story line and the main character is faced with many interesting situations. I liked the female empowerment in the plot of the story. Karigan is a strong willed young woman with alot to learn; and does some growing up all throughout the story. The many twists and turns keeps you reading to find out what might happen next. I enjoyed getting to know Kerigan and the many people she met along her journeys. I also loved to hate the villians. The author comes up with some interesting names and descriptions of the evil creatures from the dark places. It was an enjoyable read. I did not miss having all the smut some other authors include in other science fiction fantasy novels. "Bravo" Kristen Britain! Thanks for a Great Escape from the world for awhile.....

Summary: A simple, enjoyable, yet fast-paced read.
Review: The book was good. Not a masterpiece, but good. I think Jennifer Roberson (whose books I've read), and Bradley over-praised the writer a little. The best part about the book was that it was simple, I did not have to sit and ponder the meanings or the history that was included in the storyline. I do agree with the other reviewers in that the characters were not very developed. The romantic elements of the book were weak. So weak I almost missed them as being romantic. I am not one to condone lively sex scenes, but if you're going to have romance then at least have ONE kissing scene so that romance is at the very least recognized. I also found the ending to be a bit disappointing. It left me hanging completely. The whole story gave one the impression that Karigan was destined to be a Green Rider, but the end proved otherwise! And hey, what happened to Alton (the supposed "love-interest")? The plot was good, the adventure exciting, it was a relaxing read, and I would definately enjoy reading it again. Good job Miss Britain!

Summary: Could NOT put it down!!!

Summary: Good for the first attempt- Hope the second will be better
Review: From one (Hopeful) author to another, good attempt in writing a first novel- and over 400 pages too! But unfortunatly, it was 'chunky' in places and many plot points were very obvious. I haven't read enough fantasy to compare this book to others, but I have read Pierce and Lackey. I perfer those two to Britain at the moment, but I have faith that the more Britian writes, the more smoother her plots will become. I did like the character, but I do agree with others in their reviews; there was one main character and she was one dimentional. I loved Lackey's Arrow series where you really began to feel for all the characters in the book. But this didn't happen in Green Rider. There wasn't enough character development to really become attacted too, and things happened a tad bit too convenently for the characters. I don't think we should give up all hope for Britian; often the first novel isn't going to be 'perfect,' but it could have been better. But I did like the book the first time I read it; I would probably wait a while till I pick it up and read it again.

Summary: A Piece of Fluffy Fun
Review: Green Rider is a lot of fun, although the plot is a bit shallow.

The story centers around a young lady named Karigan. She runs away from the university that she was attending, and finds a dying Green Rider. He makes her promise to carry the message to the king, and she complies. The story moves on from there, following her adventures.

I thought the book was fairly good, although I would have liked to see a little more character development with the supporting characters. This book really is basically a one (maybe two character) book. Parts of the plot seemed very similar to some of Mercedes Lackey's plot devices. And, I didn't really like the way it ended. I rather hope that Kristen Britain writes a sequel to this book, exploring some of the other characters, and showing what Karigan decides.

But, even beside all that, I recommend it as a fun, fluffy read.

Summary: Great New Author
Review: This book is a wonderful find. It's the first fantasy book I've found in a long while that combines an interesting plot, intriguing characters, and a wonderfully readable writing style. And even better, to top it off, she provides some closure at the end without cutting off the posibility for sequels. I'd highly recommend this book for any fantasy fan.
