Summary: The book I compare all others to
Review: I read this book on vacation 27 years ago at age 14 and have not read any science fiction story better than this one since! It captures the imagination better than any other. I can see the characters before my eyes, even now! Although a movie would be tempting, it would ruin the mind's eye imagination. The fascinating thing about this book is that it truly transcends the reader's age level. It is as good now as it was back then. I only wish Mr. Bester was alive today, I would shake his hand and simply jaunte away!

Summary: One of the finest book I have read. Totally engrossing.
Review: I read original "Tiger, Tiger" about 30 years back and re-read it several times. I bought the book 4 times and lost it 4 times. The borrowers always failed to return it. The key sentence "Vorga, I kill you deadly" still haunts me after all these years. I thought the book was out of print and am delighted to know that it is now available as "The Stars My Destination". I am making arrangements to get a copy soon. Would love to read and re-read the book again.

Summary: Yes, this really IS a science fiction masterpiece!
Review: Despite the recommendations of Bookmatcher and the numerous "10" reviews readers gave this book, I was still skeptical, and took my time getting around to reading it. I expected a quaint, boring "marooned spaceman" story laced with outdated 50's-style future technology that would be hard to finish.

Now, having read it nonstop last night and finished it around 8:00AM this morning, I am compelled to join the chorus of praise for this story. It was written *41* *years* *ago* and still reads fresh and utterly captures the reader. While some of its elements have since been copied as SF cliches, the originality and brilliance of this work still towers over the genre.

The timeless power of "The Stars My Destination" (originally and aptly named "Tiger! Tiger!") is exactly what defines a true literary classic; one that I will read again and again. Hopefully not all in one night each time, though...

Summary: Alfred Bester was a master of imagery and action
Review: Alfred Bester was not only a novelist, he was also one of the more successful screenplay writers of his time. His talent for imagery makes Gully Foyle and the environments of The Stars My Destination leap off the pages. I heard Mr. Bester speak at a SF convention, and he made no bones about his love for the plot of the original--The Count of Montecristo--or his desire (undeniably fulfilled) to retell the story in his incredible style. If you have never read this, you really should. And, if you like to "cast" actors into roles of novels, picture a young Jack Nicholson as Gully Foyle

Summary: The best book ever...
Review: This was the first novel I ever read, at the age of seven. The fact that Gully Foyle goes from a dumb ox to an intelligent, crafty machine of vengeance is what I loved about the book. Because of his overwhelming hatred for Vorga, he changes himself into whatever form he needs to carry out his plans. He adapts. It is the persistance of life. I liked the book so much, I have a NOMAD tattoo on my back, just like the stigmata of Gully's Maori mask. Tiger-tiger... A must read book

Summary: One of the best!!!
Review: I am 12, and love this book. It is exicitng, and wonderfull. One of the first books I have read that the good guy is evil (or more forced to be evil). It starts with a man named Gully Foyle who was stranded out in deep space. Passed over by his sister ship, Vorga-T:1339. Having to save himself, he goes back to his home planet Terra with a murderous grudge. Now in the worlds of jaunting and war, he runs from the people that want him, and would do anything to get a matrial from Gully. Even if Gully dosen't know he has it. Gully fights for revenge on the Vorga, with death and hate on his mind and love in his heart

Summary: One of my faves
Review: I read this one about 20 years ago. My favorite scene that always stuck in my mind: the railroad being laid down the middle of 5th Avenue! Good stuff!

Review: I read this one about 20 years ago. My favorite scene that always stuck in my mind: the railroad being laid down the middle of 5th Avenue! Good stuff! While I'm here, I want to say hello to my lovely wife and my 3 kids who are home right now!

Summary: This book cries out for a Ridley Scott movie!
Review: I won't re-hash all that has been said, except to say that I agree completely. This is one of the few classic science fiction novels that could be translated onto the screen and survive the translation. It's one of the best, is all. Stephen Charest Lincoln NE
