Rating: Summary: Good, but lacked focus Review: Reality Dysfunction: Expansion continued the great characters and spectacular universe of Emergence, but it lacked focus. The story was disjointed, and even comical in places (the dead Irish guy with his ridiculous speech). Thankfully, the 'sequel series' Neutronium Alchemist returns to greatness like Emergence.
Rating: Summary: one of the best stories ever written Review: An epic spanning a multitude of worlds and cultures with characters that you can believe in and care for. A truly original vision of the future with all its good and bad points intact. I read the Reality Dysfunction as one book not three and the neutronium alchemist soon after. The author really gets the tension going and then maintains it using the classic 'cliffhanger' to leave me wanting more. When is the next part due out?
Rating: Summary: going to be one of the under-rated sagas of sci-fi Review: Hamilton has created one of the most detailed universes that I have ever seen. On par with Tom Clancy in terms of storylines. The man is great at not only describing future society but also great at the personal lives of the characters. The man is a under-rated genius, a true master.
Rating: Summary: Well thought out and gripping Review: This series started out slow because the author takes the time to build the caracters into people we can believe. As there is some very graphic violence and referance to pure evil it is not recomended for minors. My only negative is that it was not published in total because I can't wait for the conclusion.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT - Brand new concepts about weaponry Review: This is one of those books that come along once in a while and really makes your imagination take flight in all aspects, shattering current paradigms. I specially liked the weaponry, bio-enhacements, med-tech concepts. They sound like something worth looking into in the next century...
Rating: Summary: Great, but disturbing imagery, plot and situations. Review: I bought both books as a single edition book club special, didn't realize it had originally been published as two volumes. I felt it really deserved to be one book, and saw it that way on a trip to London. Wish I'd happened across the sequel while I was there... The cross between horror and science is quite good, although I'm hoping future volumes will give a better "explanation" for the source of the possessed's "powers." War, in any guise, is not clean, and these books don't flinch. His descriptions of the combat-boosted soldiers and mercenaries is brilliant, as are his various sub-cultures present on different planets and habitats. It really strikes me that, pending FTL travel, humanity may evolve in this fashion.
Rating: Summary: It actually made me cry -- Review: which very few books have ever done. All I can say is if you don't want to read an extremely memorable book that will not let you out of it's grip to so much as go to the bathroom, then don't pick up this book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, should read if you have a spare lifetime Review: Very big (I too posess the doorstep edition), very epic, very good....Very violent in places, but still a damn good read.
Rating: Summary: The saga continues...and once again, does not disappoint. Review: Mr. Hamilton flawlessly picks up the complex tapestry he began with the first book. We continue to get intriguing glimpses of the characters within the characters and begin to see just a glimmer of their possible places in the unfolding drama. In this second book, we begin seeing what pieces are on the board and potentially where they might begin to fit in the inevitable "final battle." Once again, woven into the basic characterization and the more subtle characterization in the novel, Hamilton continues to offer glimpses into the politics, economics, science, and the "great unknown" of the universe he has built, allowing us to both appreciate the intricacy of the developement and to formulate our own theories regarding his reality. The depth of this novel does not disappoint and I eagerly await discovering that the next book is available.
Rating: Summary: Beats Ian M. Banks at his own game... Review: From reading the first chapter of this book I was hooked. If you like Sci-fi with big guns, scary Doom-like monsters and a plot that loops-the-loop look no further. The central characters are very well rounded and likeable, the slide into horror is genius.Probably the best sci-fi book written, until I read the sequel that is!
