Summary: The most comprehensive I've seen yet
Review: A treasure chest that covers all sf movies from 1895 to the present. If it's not in here, it probably wasn't made--everything from Mexican quickies starring popular Mexican wrestling champions to Hungarian space-vampires to the late 1950's "The Colussus of New York" (a film I had been trying to find the name of for 30 years). And it's stuffed with pictures--about 450 b&w and color.

Review: Hardy entrega a los fans más exigentes del cine de ciencia ficción un trabajo colosal, absolutamente recomendable, de enorme envergadura (se analizan, año a año, con detalle 1.550 películas), trazado con sumo cuidado (cada crítica, analiza la obra y habla del autor, haciendo referencia a otras obras destacadas del género...y cada década se abre con un miniensayo sobre el panorama del género), y con enorme amplitud de miras (no se centra únicamente en el cine anglosajón, sino que cubre películas de todo el mundo). Es muy difícil dar cantidad y calidad, pero Hardy triunfa en extensión y en detallismo. El genial libro de Phil Hardy sirve tanto para el profano en la materia como para el profesional que necesita información más detallada y rigurosa, no defraudando a nadie...realmente es muy difícil que entre las 1.550 películas, desde los orígenes del cine hasta 1994, que se critican (NO SE TRATA DE MERAS SINOPSIS ARGUMENTALES... sino que a una pequeña ficha técnica, y a la sipnosis, se une una crítica valorativa, e información sobre el director, la realización, u otros detalles de interés) no esté lo que andas buscando, por el contrario encontrarás gran cantidad de títulos de los que jamás habías oído hablar. Para redondear esta imprescindible obra, añadir que la edición está realmente muy cuidada (en gran formato), con estupendo papel, y que se incluyen más de 500 fotografías (todas en blanco y negro) realmente fantásticas. Sólo pienso que deberían haberse añadido más índices, pues resulta muy complicado encontrar películas por director. Para todo amante del cine fantástico, esta obra se complementa con su homóloga del cine de terror,también de Hardy...creo que sería una buena idea, agrupar ambos volúmenes, en una edición de lujo "Fantastique", con caja y tapa dura, sería ideal para coleccionistas.

Summary: Excellent Science Fiction encyclopedia
Review: Phil Hardy's excellent endevour to catalogue the films of, primarely, Hollywood reaches it's peak with the Horror and Science Fiction books. They both reveal a genuine interest in the media and, as an information non-digital database, these two items are the ultimate choice for collectors and horror/SF aficionados. Where Leonard Maltin says goodbye, Phil Hardy says hello. These items can be used either as a coffeetable companion, or as an encyclopedia for the serious movie-fan. There are some european films that deserves mentioning that have been omitted, but in view of the overall care in which way theese books have been presented, the omissions are readily excused. Summary: Outstanding reference work!
Review: This really has to be recognised as a monumental reference work. The sheer breadth of material found and reviewed by Hardy is extraordinary. I will be using this book for years to come.

Summary: The Overlook Film Encyclopedia (Science Fiction)
Review: You can spend hours browsing trough this encyclopedia. Of course you will recognize many of the classic. Yet you may be surprised at the multitude of great films that you missed.
