Rating: Summary: Just Okay Review: This book was good in the sense that it was very character driven. I really liked how Ms. Tyers wrote Jacen. I felt like I knew him a lot better after reading this book. However, there were too many holes in the story for me to entirely enjoy the book as a whole. It felt more like one of the paperback-filler-books than an essential Hardcover book. I was especially disappointed in the follow-up to Han and Leia's estrangement as written in this book. I thought that should have gotten more attention than it did.
Rating: Summary: Kathy delivers!!! Review: This is without a doubt the best Star Wars Book i have read. It brings out the conflict that Jacen Solo is feeling, he feels he must find the balance between the Light and Darkness. This book alsod puts a more realistic view on Luke and Mara's marrage, Mara is back to her sarcastic ways. Leia is the hero, while making her marrage to Han work. Jaina is one of the best shots in Rogue Squadron but a few hitchs come in to her plan. This is a must read!!!! Have fun.
Rating: Summary: A sense of peace... Review: Being a long time fan of Kathy Tyres, as well as a long time fan of Star Wars, I was worried about this book. First, R.A. Salvatore does the unthinkable and writes a great book to start a series, and offs Chewbacca. Don't get me wrong, I loved that book. Then the whole feeling of the series was skewed when Michael Stackpole took over the series. I like Mr. Stackpole, but the feeling of continuity between the pilot book and its sequal just wasn't there. Now, yet another writer, Mrs. Tyres, comes into the scene, and I am fearing yet another jolt to my precious world created by these authors. Boy was I wrong. Kathy easily took up the reins of this series, and took it to new heights. Jacen Solo was taken from being merely an outcast Jedi to being the hero of the book. If only for standing up for what he believed. Luke and Mara Skywalker became real mentors, and their faults were finally exposed to the world, making them more real and likeable. And finally, there is the rest of the Solo family. Watching their realistic rejoining was incredible. Despite the GREAT ending and its cliffhanger (you didn't really think I'd give it away, did you?) I was left with a sense of peace. A sense that my little world these authors have weaved for me would survive. And a sense that the Jedi would, in the end, prevail.
Rating: Summary: An integral part of the NJO series Review: Kathy Tyers has picked up the torch passed on by James Luceno, adapting the old Star Wars characters into the new galaxy these authors are creating. Granted, there are some holes in the story, but that is to be expected from a continuing series; the reprecussions of what happened here will undoubtedly be explained further into the series (as book six in the series, the conclusion is hardly close at hand). While the Han and Leia reunion could've been longer, do we really need to see them reunited yet again? Like they haven't been separated before. Tyers has chosen to focus on the Solo children as well as Luke & Mara and their as yet unborn child. It's called the New Jedi Order, and as such must be expected to follow the Jedi, who are blamed for the Yuuzhan Vong incursion into their galaxy. So it's only natural to follow their plight. Tyers delivers with her trademark plot, and things heat up at the end, with Jacen Solo left to make a choice, one that could irrevocably put him on the path towards the Dark Side. He must find his balance, or risk losing the way of life his parents fought so hard for. I highly recommend this book, especially if you plan on finishing the series.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: The action was great, Luke and Mara are an AWESOME couple, and this book is VERY action-packed! What more could you want? I love it when my favorite characters are in love and are married. Anyways, I was a little confused (As always) with the whole Yuuzhan Vong thingy... I don't get why the New Republic is holding back! Why don't they just blast those losers right out of the air?? Some answers we will never know... Back to the topic, don't pass this book up! It's very entertaining and I think you'll enjoy it! (If you are ready for FUN AND EXCITEMENT!) ...
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: The main problem with this book was that the author completely deviated from the original assignment. Had she gone by what was given to her, this book would have fit in much better. Instead she chose to write in scenes for her favorite characters, Luke and Mara, which were not really necessary in the book. She gave the Han/Leia reunion the minimum coverage possible, which was to be a major plot point in this book. It is also ridiculous that as soon as Han and Leia reunite they're thrown into trauma again with Leia's injuries. The graphic torture was unnecessary and served no plot purpose since it was not picked up on in the next book, I assume it was only done for shock value. I find the way she let her personal feelings so strongly influence the way she wrote this book quite unprofessional. Well written, but had she gone by the original assignment instead of completely changing it around to fit what she wanted to write, could have been so much more.
Rating: Summary: Pretty OUT of balance, actually... Review: A terrible last 60 pages ruins the whole darn thing. Balance Point has way too much plot for its own good, and not enough character work. Jacen's mind-blowing vision at the start of the book is never paid off fully, and the book ends the same way every other NJO book ends; the New Republic retreats AGAIN. Granted, the last page does set up an interesting scenario; hopefully the next books in the series pick up on it. Disappointing, to say the least.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I found this book to be very disappointing. Maybe as a stand alone book it wouldn't have been too bad, but as part of a series it didn't fit in very well. I felt that many issues that should have been resolved in this book were not addressed enough, mainly the Han and Leia reconcilation. The book also create new issues out of the blue without any lead in from the previous books in the series. And then to top it off, the book left us with a cliffhanger that was not continued in the following book in the series. For me, this made for alot of anticlimactic storytelling.
Rating: Summary: Overall, a pretty great Star Wars book Review: The New Jedi Order series kind of takes a different spin on the Star Wars universe, and Balance Point truly is a great addition. The second hardcover and stand alone book of the series, Balance Point turns the series in a new direction with a few surprises and new problems with the Yuuzhan Vong.
Rating: Summary: Where's the action, Kathy??? Review: I am, like most who read this review, a fellow SW reader and devoted fan. I've read through every NJO book out there (even struggled through Vector Prime) and I must say, Balance Point has got to be as lame as Agents of Chaos: Hero's Trial... There was no action, no interest, no plot... A word of advice: If you decide to get this book, just read the very last page, its the best part and the only reason I didn't give the novel a one rating...
