Rating: Summary: This is Salvatore at his best! Review: The Demon Wars series is fantasy. Salvatore's second book in the series was even better than the first. Even so, you really should read The Demon Awakens first. These books are epic fantasy. Salvatore has crafted his own world and breathed life into it. This book fills the story more, and brings back some very special friends. Still, many issues are left unresolved, and the book leaves you wanting the next book. Luckily, we only have to wait until March for it! If you love the Drizzt series for more than Drizzt, The Demon Spirit will blow you away.
Rating: Summary: Great reading, but something was missing. Review: The only issue I had with this book was Salvatore's use of stock characters. Too many of his characters fit into molds that have been developed thousands of other times by hundreds of other authors. All of the main characters (Elbryan, Pony, Bradwarden, Markwart, etc) are too predictable. There is a good side to this, however. When Salvatore abandons his characters, he has all the more time to flesh out the details. The plotting is very good, better even than his Dark Elf trilogy I would say, and the world is fully realized. His use of setting is important, and he gives it the time it deserves. If've you read the first one, don't stop now.
Rating: Summary: A good book. I recomend it. Review: There are only a handful of plots that books in this genre generally follow. One of which is the mixed-group of adventurers out to destroy the center of evil and attempt to stop a massive war. This book and its accompanying series do not vary from this tried-but-true theme. But what can seperate a book apart from others, is the storytelling and characters. The Demon Spirit has some good storytelling and characters. Unfortunately these characters are made secondary, while the primary characters are pretty static. The fighting scenes are "stock" and even skippable at times. The story develops well for the first 80% of the book, then the main characters do something totally out of character and frankly, stupid: They decide that a tavern-hopping nobleman and a battle-naive young man would be fine guards for a dangerous assassin that was captured . After this the storyline plummets, the characters lose their respect in the eyes of the reader, and the book ends with no real resolution. The redeeming quality is the writing and depth of the lands, and hope of improvements in the third installation.
Rating: Summary: Most of it was Good, then it fell apart Review: There are only a handful of plots that books in this genre generally follow. Rating: Summary: A wonderful read! Review: This book and its predecessor, The Demon Awakens, are two of the finest novels I have read in a long time. They are rich with everything that makes a good fantasy novel and the fact that Salvatore has created his own world makes it all the better. I loved this book and the way that it dealt with Elbyran and Pony's growing relationship, as well as the fact that they didn't want it to go too far until after all the fighting was over. That gave it a sense of realism that I haven't seen in a fantasy novel in a long time, unless it is written by R.A. Salvatore. If you have not yet read The Demon Awakens or The Demon Spirit, you need to run out and buy them now and get started. The third installment in the series is sure to be just as good, if not better and is slated to come out March of next year I think. You might want to check on that just to be sure. I can't wait to see how everything will end, especially the fight with the church! Father Abbot Markwart is a formidable foe and will be one hard to defeat.
Rating: Summary: Great plot, great characters. Great writing? Review: This book really left me disappointed. I read the first volume in the series quickly and enjoyed it quite a lot. This second book advanced nicely with plot and characters, but the quality of the writing became very poor. I found myself wincing everytime I saw "He said, dryly." at the end of a sentence. I didn't even finish the book.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME STILL Review: This book was not as good as TDA, but it was still extremely good. The imagination, emotion, adventure- everything was really well-written!
Rating: Summary: Excellent, lives up to Salvatore's reputation. Review: This book was the perfect sequel to "The Demon Awakens", and was even an improvement because there weren't as many boring spots. Though this series is not as good as the Drizzt series(not as fast moving or action packed), definately holds true to Salvatore's great reputation.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A GOOD ONE! 1 Review: this book will keep you on the edge of your seat from cover to cover. if you haven't read the demon awakens don't start with this book! the story will be confusing, but if you've read demon awakens then jump right into this book! this is truly an awesome book!
Rating: Summary: Not his best work but worth reading Review: This book's main flaws were the characters, they are your typical cookie cutter action hero that you see in every fanstay. don't get me wrong I enjoyed the book though it wasn not one of Salvators better work. If you enjoy Fantasy then I would recommend The Price of Immortality by C.M. Whitlock, The characters are unique, as is the story
